  • He was totally safe! That is funny that they even tried that trick.

  • That is a balk. The pitcher can't be on the mound without the ball and he was standing on the back of the mound. Even if he was safe he still should've gotten third.

  • @yankees2133 No...you can't be on the rubber.

  • F U umpire that was BS he was totally safe

  • Pretty sure the Tigers won. They always do.

  • safe

  • I like the announcers, the fact that they are stating why the ump made the call he did. They're not saying, "it's your job to get every call right!", but, "you can see why the umpire would call it the way he did". Good commentating.

  • pause it at 0:52 and look the guys face in the white shirt

  • this was the regional not the super regional

  • tha catcher is a dick

  • @sixflaggsmass hes a good catcher

  • ha ha lol the 2nd base umpire wasn't even facing the play if you atch it closely you see him turn AFTER the play is made lol

  • dude id just throw at the next hitter if i were the LSU pitcher

  • @cbuck16ab

    Maybe the next 6 hitters.

  • im sad. some1 msg me on msn. P

  • techially they didnt do anything wrong excpet the umpire miss the call.

thats all but i dont even know or see these games on tv raido. I got fisher cats, boston red sox.

    thats about it.

  • geaux fuck yourself.

  • come back??? i was trying to do a comeback lmao... oh ok... like i said i dont care for these teams.

I am only to see why he aguring

  • Obivoulsy not beacuse i could less about these two teams.

  • It has nothing to do with Umpires helping a diffrent team. god i hate how fans recat to this shit

  • This is why you keep your eyes on the ball all the time.

  • Trickery is not a part of sports. UCI paid the price.

  • but thats ok because LSU got to the world series not UCI so..yea

  • I am confused. Usually after a play, time is called and the ball is dead. I wish I could see what happened before this.

  • there was no time called as the ball was in play and watting for the pitcher to get on mound.

  • ROGER SUCKS but thats ok we made it to the cws

i dont think hell make another call on a players reaction

  • For one thing the runner should be safe and awarded third base....a pitcher without the ball cannot be on the mound (or any dirt part on the mound) this is intent to deceive the runner and a balk should of been called ......Bad Call

  • The pitcher is not on the dirt. He is on the grass behind the dirt. I dont think any umpire saw the play, it was just a good sell by the defense. This is a deception of the umpires, not the runner.

  • If UC Irvine has to resort to trickery then they must not have talent. I write this knowing LSU went to Omaha and the CWS is said and done for 2007. However trickery like this is not sportsmanlike in any way. None. Did you see LSU pull a stunt like this during the three games event with USI? Nope. LSU won out on basic and great ball playing.

  • I agree. I was merely pointing out what the ruling should have been given the fact the umpires believed the runner was tagged out. I am on your side as far as the deception involved. If you can't win by playing BASEBALL, and have to resort to deception to gain an advantage, you don't deserve it.

  • That second base umpire and all the

other ones should have known where that ball

was. That's the trouble. The umpire got

    'picked off', not the runner.

  • was obviously safe, but every 2nd grader knows to stay on the base of the pitchers not on the mound.

  • Safe

  • the son of a bitch refs

  • What a bullshit call. I'd kick that refs ass.

  • i always liked when umps look at the play before making the call. maybe im asking too much.

  • wow he was definetley SAFE!

  • Google Get Sulky. Surprised?? SO WAS I!!

  • when i umped little league we had something like this

a runner on third the pitcher comes IN on the grass to get the pitch back from the cather as he walks back the runner runs home

a cheap ass play but didnt LSU win ?

  • I wouldn't say that's a cheap play. The ball is in play, and everyone knows where it is. Pitchers sometimes forget that the game is still on after a pitch. But as for the play in this video - this "hidden ball trick" - that's very unsportsmanlike.

  • yeh, that was bullshit

  • How is it a classless move? If it were against the rules sure, but its not. Your just pissed it broke a big inning possibly. He was probably safe, so don't be mad at the play be upset with the umps. They blew the call. There was nothing wrong with the hidden ball trick. Just get over it it was within the rules of what they did.

  • Just because it's "within the rules" does not make it okay. That's not how the game is meant to be played.

  • The umpire even told the LSU head coach it was the wrong call, but there was nothing he could do about it.

  • The ref should be disciplined, he made a call on somethin he didn't even see. Even if LeMahieu got tagged the ref wasn't looking.

  • as an eater fan, that was a horrible call he was clearly safe

but w/ that said no one is mentioning the stupidity of LeMahieu's base running

he broke one of the cardinal rules of base running: you NEVER EVER leave the bag during a dead ball unless the pitcher is on the rubber

LeMahieu was safe but lsu shouldn't whine about the 'dirty tricks' or 'little league bullshit' without looking at the stupidity of lsu's baserunner

if he stayed on the bag, he wouldn't have been called out

  • +ohhh well we won today anyway series is now 1-1 with a huge comback today

  • What little league bullshit. Just play the game already.

Save your "hidden ball trick" for your dates.

  • lmao dude thats good.

    i 100% agree with you

  • yeah i totally agree too maybe its okay to do in some non conference regular season game but to do it with the bases loaded in the super regionals is disrespectful and shows u have no balls

  • bromar16 as a LSU fan, I have no problem with this. The hidden ball trick is a part of baseball. This is for a trip to the CWS. You pull out out all your tricks. AS a former umpire if you don't see the play you have to call the runner safe. So the ump should not be able to call anymore games this year.

  • i disagree u can say its fair all u want im still gonna believe the hidden ball trick is retarded and should never be performed espically in big moments like this it takes away from the game

  • I beleieve when Skip was an assistant at Miami he called for one during the College World Series. So, if it is ok for Skip, I believe it is ok for me. It is part of the game.

  • so Devilcatcher do you think there should be replay for both homeruns and safe out calls!?

  • Uh no you are wrong. The pitcher cannot be on the RUBBER he can be on the dirt all day long.

  • this is why baseball needs instant replay!

  • Instant replay is in consideration for homeruns not safe-out calls

  • stupid antcheaters

  • and your a dumbass

  • You would expect this from a little league umpire not in college. Fire the crew.

  • ondabayou, i'm not an lsu fan by any means, and being mad at the umps is completely called for. but is lamay-whatever not at fault for being off the bag with the pitcher not on the rubber? kind of just a stupid play all the way around, but he should've been on the bag and none of this would've happened.

  • That's horrible...Start fining these ass hole mother fucking umpires and they'd get their heads out of their asses!!! GO TIGERS!!!

  • this is not baseball. this is stupid dirty california ball.

  • i was talking more about manners than anything else. the stadium gave ollie linton two standing ovations today. you don't seem to see manners in sports outside the south. and apparently, you don't see them in conversations. no southern gentleman would call a fifteen year old girl a 'fucking cunt'.

  • oh, and it seems as if lsu won today's game. how 'bout dem tigers?

  • lmao 21 to 7 nough said asshole

  • i just wonder, if it didn't change the outcome of the game then why run it?

If the pitcher has to throw 6 more pitches, just to get the next batter out, doesn't that raise his pitch count? Weren't they already stalling in order to bring in a new pitcher?

Saying this didn't change the outcome of a game is retarded.

btw, best part is how the ump wasn't even looking at the play and called it all on reaction of the players...now that is real baseball. haha

  • awful call. just awful

  • I agree "stuff" happens. But since plays like this don't have an effect on the outcome of the game shouldn't LSU get a free out with the bases loaded in game 2? Then none of you suckers from Irvine can complain. Listen to the commentator you turkeys!

  • you know i wouldn't be surprised to see that...i could see the umpires having a "makeup" call. they were doing that type of stuff all game

  • dude, watch the games more, we steal bases. the team is 90-114 in stolen bases.

  • Jesus Christ you guys from the SEC are fucking pussies! Yeah a call like that could very well change the momentum of the game, but shit you guys had so many fucking chances to take the game...but couldn't capitalize. Stop being fucking pussies and stop relying on this single play as a scapegoat just because your heralded offense was halted by our phenomenal pitching staff. Landry's catch, however, was fucking amazing...talk about a momentum shift, that was never capitalized on. ZOT ZOT

  • phenomenal pitching staffs don't blow a 5 run lead with 6 outs left; much less give up 21 (T W E N T Y O N E) runs in a single game when their season is on the line. oh, the douchery.

  • can u say bullshit?

  • i was watching this at Hooters evry1 started slamming stuff all over and it was the worst call ever

  • Damn Straight.

    Geaux Tigers!

  • How the hell can an umpire who DID NOT SEE THE PLAY make the call??!! Shameful...he should have either admitted he did not see it to make the call, or look up at the screens. We will never know if the Tigers could have come back, or changed the outcome of the game, but the umpire needs to be suspended for what he did!!

  • GO IRVINE!!! Being an hour from hollywood sure does give the anteaters an advantage

GO UCI! Show the SEC how better ball is played on the west coast.

  • you've already shown us how ball is played on the west coast. you use sissy hidden ball tricks and jump up and down like girls to fool the idiot umpires. way to go!!!

  • 11-5! SCOREBOARD!

  • have you ever heard of momentum? a bad call totally changed that game. if we got one hit with the bases loaded, we would have scored at least two runs and knocked gorgen out of the game.

  • man u guys showed us up what did we win by today what 2 touchdowns oh yeah nice attempt at another hidden ball trick i guess when desperation strikes hidden ball trick is the first coarse of action

  • intresting fact for people it actually would have been a balk if he was on the mound even if he stepped off so yaaa i got thrown out of my little league last year wen i was in 8th grade this kid beamed me i charged the mound and totally gave him a right hook i got suspended for the rest of the season but it was our last game anyways

  • That's the way to sell it!

    Go 'Eaters... Zot!

  • Dont even worry about him being safe or out, bad calls happen, the problem is the umpire not seeing it. Look at his face, he doesnt even look until after the play is over!!! He made the call based on player reaction..he should lose his job!! I do not think it cost LSU the game though, but I think it will fire LSU up enough to win the next 2.

  • Of course it cost them the game, talk about taking the wind out of the players from there on out...pitiful job by the umpire.

  • It definitly could have cost us the game, but their pitcher was shutting us down, and they were hitting us pretty good. FOR SURE it could have been a turning point in the game for LSU, but I wont sit on that excuse. Today should be fun is all I can say.

  • good call it did

  • Obviously the officials made the incorrect call, but you have to hand it to UCI, everyone on the field sold the play and baited the guy into the wrong call.

  • You may have a shot at a dog pile, but LSU still has more championships. How many do the "eaters" have?

  • When an umpire has his back to the play and did not clearly see it, the call should always be safe. He had no buisness making that call. No one will ever no if LSU would have made a come back at that point or not because the opprotunity was taken away from them by the worst call in baseball. Go Tigers!!

  • Some bush league shit from UCI, they should be playing softball

  • That was nothing short of outrageous. The ump didn't even see the play! And he had the unmitigated gall to throw Sanchez out of the game after committing such a disgrace.

As if to add insult to injury, this ump was so maddeningly unrepentant when Mainieri gave him what-for. Hoping this ump at least gets an official slap on the wrist of some kind....

  • I'll hold you to that.

  • Didn't directly change the outcome? HUH?!?

It's hard to see how this call *didn't* change the face of the game. The tying run was at the plate when this happened.

I don't think the final outcome put the game beyond doubt for "the eaters" at all. Take away this crummy call, and things might have gone the other way in the end.

  • it was a 4 run game at the time and ended up being a 6 run game. it's not like lsu picked up any ground in the innings after that one.

the ump certainly took away a great opportunity to put up a few runs, no arguing that. but it's one thing to make a bad call in a 11-5 game and a whole other problem to do it in a nail biter.

  • well said...if anything it should have fired your team, but instead you guys sat back, whined about it, and now our Eater win has an asterisk on it. quit whining and play hard. It's not a hard concept to comprehend...I'm pretty sure they teach it in little league

  • Watch yourself,largefarva79,you are sounding like a little prick.

  • listen, shit happens...i was taught from an early age that if some outrageous shit like that happened, you play through it...use it to your momentum. you guys sure as hell didn't use it to fire up your team. Your team sat back after it happened and let it dictate the rest of the game. That's a terrible attitude if I've ever seen one

  • actually im much more pissed at the fact of the classless move of the hidden ball trick i mean grow some fucking pubes and go back home to cali and eat your ants

  • lmao how was that dog pile

  • Didn't play very well, but DAMN that was horrible.
