@stoofbuis Actually, that isn't a DSL. I can't figure out what it is. It kind of looks like an old JCM800 split channel combo, but I can't tell for sure.
Jeff is so tall, the guitar looks minuscule on him. I am a tall man too and I like small and light guitars, so I picked up a nice caramel burst ES-339 (over the larger 335) last year, to complement my SG 61 RI. Love the guitar. Gibson rocks, Pevar blues!
DaMn this guy can play nice. He has some really nice bonamasseque tones and the slide was killer too. My only complaint was that phaser in the beginning otherwise awesome :)
He said some of the truest words in music. The music comes through you, the music plays you... If you you ever played with a band, you know what it feels like. It's just one of the strongest feelings you can get.
Jeff,I remember you from your cable TV's guitar lessons,Gibsons are great, but, you haven't played anything until you've played a Carvin CT6 or SH645, makes Gibson seem as over priced as they really are. No reason at ALL to $5000 for any guitar!
this is one of the very best gear demo's of any kind i have seen here on ye olde Youtube. superior guitar and quite obviously a superior player. Right On guys!!!!
@gamergeek3000 it's supposed to be like that. I've got small hands and I can barely get a slide past my second knuckle, you're not supposed to wear a slide that far down. go watch a video of derek trucks or duane allman. This guy does have long fingers though, but nothing crazy
I have a question on the ES-339 in comparison to the ES-335. I have briefly played both (with 60's necks - I have very small hands). Nice! Should the necks feel the same as the ES-335? I like the size and cost of the 339. Is the build quality the same? How do you rate the Memphis tone controls? Can you get close to the tone of the 335 with the 339?
Here's what you do... imagine t that Jeff is a 10' giant playing a full-sized 335. You may need supplemental herb or other substance to maintain the illusion . Also - without coil taps etc -this is just your average Gibby humbucker sounds. The first surgery I'd do would be 4-wire p-ups with coil taps.
@PF1964 Yes. It tends to be a bit brighter. Personally, I think the 335 is better at classic Chicago blues and jazz, whereas the 339 excels at bareknuckle modern blues and classic rock tones. The 339 REALLY likes to be overdriven.
The man is incredible isn't he? Back in the day, he played with his band at my best friend's wedding. I stood there amazed for so long. At one point he was asking people to shout out a guitar player and he played in that style. Just amazing.
great demo... really dig this axe... hopefully I can buy it soon... the tone is very rich and I bet with a compressor on top of that and a little delay... WOOOOW

Is that a marshall haze?
stoofbuis 2 weeks ago
@stoofbuis No. The Haze has the controls on the top of the amp. That looks like a DSL combo.

PeteWojMusic 3 months ago
less effects dude. effects mask the true tone of the guitar. and thats why i clicked on the vid. to hear the 339. not a phaser pedal.

Yes, using practice to nail basic technique, then when performing the magic occurs and you play totally differently-save the energy for the gig!

@NewMusicSpacequake I think I play like that too, I think I am just use to playing with a bottleneck, and the brass slide does not look that big.

amp?

@greeeenmachine It looks like on of those Marshall Artist 30 amps made in the 1980s. They were made with a tube power amp and solid state preamp.
