the tape is low tack painters tape

Get Canada Balsum just a drop will soften the ink. Artist supply stores have this.

Some soft printers ink mixed with the lithograph ink will also soften your ink. There is nothing wrong with your hard ink it just needs to be prepared so that it works for you.
