It sucked that he had to die. I was hoping that, *SPOILERSS* in the last episode, he would finally realize that Kira, his 'God', was the actual bad guy, and he would walk away from the warehouse, letting Kira die, and live... and maybe get a girlfriend and start his life over, or something like that. That would have been a better ending for him.

But using his own father, among others, is completely contradictory to who "Kira" was supposed to be; a bringer of justice, and destroyer of EVIL. I think Light became more and more corrupted with the Death Note that he only used it to stay alive as long as he could instead of ridding evil. I hated what happened to Mikami too... :(

yeah, i felt horrible for his dad, he died believing his son was innocent. and his poor sister is only half living. he did do awful things in his quest for justice, but he also did a lot of good. when he was alive there was no war and there was 70% less crime. i cant help wondering if he ever felt regret, that he destroyed the people he should love the most for strangers? its a complicated situation. which is why i liked this story.

@th1smomentisfate I think that the Death Note can never be used by any human without them losing some part of themselves. Yes, crime and war dropped, but was it really because they truly believed in Kira? Or was Kira controlling the world through fear?Just 1 year after Kira dies, the world was back the way it was, as if Kira never existed. It definitely makes me think about morality and righteousness, which is what I think makes Light a unique character, and Death note an enjoyable story.

even if it was through fear, id be happy if the crime rate dropped in the world. especially as a woman, going anywhere alone, you cant help wondering, when some guy will try to steal from you, or worse. i know its unrealistic but the thought of there not being rape/murder/abuse i would love to see a world like that. thanks for the replies though, and i agree death note is a very enjoyable story!
