Oh, yes...the louder the radio, the faster the car, especially when a tune like this was playing. I feel sorry for the youth of today, with their fast paced and disposable music.
there's a lot of rumor and little fact being laid down here. Here are some facts: JB was Laura Nyro's boyfriend for about 1 year 1970-71. They were never married. Nyro did not commit suicide, she died of cancer. look up Laura Nyro on Wiki, or anywhere. wag wag wag, later.
I love Jackson Browne. Inspired, It brings back memories of some very good times growing up. Deleware beaches, BBQ, Mom and Dad....wish I could go back...out on the boat crabbin' fishin, clamming.. Some of my girl friends, at that time, were there, and liked JB too, .at that time ,, Peter Frampton had cool tunes too. I was in a dam good place...!!!!
I put this CD in the car tonight and listened all the way through. Hold Out was such a fantastic and well produced album! Seamless transition from song to song.
so,..I have a woman like this in my life now,..she came,..from no where,..made me feel like a king,..let me treat her like a lady. Its june 24/11,..i'm an old guy,..and shes a lady, but man alive,..that girl can sing!!! We are singing when ever we can, and belive me,..with age,..PRICELESS! Is this song really about a songstress?
almost anyone with the possible exception of who I wanted her to be - all my ex's would tell you that I wasn't who they wanted me to be in the long run - yikes must pick better in the future
Man I absolutley LOVE J.B. You can really hear the influence that Warren Zevon had on his vocals!! He has a way with melodies that just lifts my spirit!
I was 16. Got my first speeding ticket driving with my foot to the floor and the radio blasting this tune. I had a 1975 Nova SS. Great Car, great tune. My hair was so long,in a ponytail. 20 MPH over the limit and when the cop walked to my window I was smoking a Marlboro and asked him what the hell did he want ? And he didn't cuff me or drag me off to jail. I think he really dug this tune as well.
@62view the first lesson i taught my kids about driving, the louder the music, the faster you're going. pay attention! i'm still the one getting pulled over for speeding tickets! at least two of us learned the lesson!
This song is about Valerie Carter, a singer for his back up vocals. All Jackson Browne's songs are based on a personal experience. That what separates him from the others.
Awesome album.....fell in love with it when it came out.....just a great singer songwriter.....fuck politics....all i want to hear is the music and the passion.....
I heard this song when I was partyin one night a few years ago and I loved it! I didn't really know what it was about but I loved the lyrics and the beats... It makes u want to get up and sway and dance! Now that I know that the song is about his lover who committed suicide it made me sad and i didnt want to listen to it for a long time.... but it is an awesome song and I love it! I'm 21 but I'm an old school girl!!~
Even tho Jackson Brown had been around a while before this song, this was the song that 'introduced' me to Jackson Brown..Gosh, my bro had this on a 45 and I was only about 9 yrs old..lol. His vocals are so crisp and clear here....Sadly kind of an overlooked song of his..
I wissh you had heard in 1974 but I am sure you have all his music like me. I have seen him 3 times those come back when I come here and listen..any other favorites of JB I am a true fan since 74 and am better from some bug I got for a week and happy to feel like singing to these songs. GB you very much
@misshair I know what you mean. They just don't play this song on the radio very much if ever anymore. I honestly can't tell you the last time I heard it there. Not saying they don't play it but I play the classic rock stations all the time and it has probably been years since I heard it there. They tend to play Boulevard from that record more than this song for some reason
my mother raised me on all this great music i was born in 1972 alot good times

@macksfischer That's right. She died of ovarian cancer at age 49, the same disease that took her Mom at the exact same age. So tragic.

Wasn't about a suicide. Was about his affair with Chritine McVie from Fleetwood Mac.

Jackson was asked by a DJ who he wrote this song about.
Jackson's reply was Valerie Carter-a well known singer who also co-wrote Love Needs a Heart with Jackson and Lowell George of Little Feat.
