The thing that really gets me about that specific charge... Cavalry vs pikes... The orcs seriously are useless if they can lose against cavalry (yes, even if they are the rohan)

Sorry for delayed reply. If you have ever ridden a horse at full gallop you will know why they loose. At 30+ miles per hour you are not stopping for nothing, and espicaily not a pike. When horses hits the spear wall either of2 things will happen. 1, the first horses are killed instantly on the pikes but disrupt the formation of pikes with the now projectile 40000N of force. Or, the pikes bounce off armor and the Horse continues on trampling and slashing with great abandon.

@mrshlmoltke True, i guess. Yeah, that makes sense about the horses in front getting killed and disrupting the formation. Didn't happen in the movie though :P Although i'm glad it didn't, cause the Rohan are boss!

@starwars910 Not sure if you ever got an answer to this. This is a real game (Called Medieval 2, total war). Its actually just a full mod of the game, so you need to buy the game M2TW, then download and install the mod (hosted in various places).

The "vanilla" (unchanged) game itself is actually pretty damn cool and worth the buy just for that, of course it goes from great to awesome when you start downloading modifications that alter it...in this case, LOTR mod (ThirdAge Mod)

@ToWhomGodWill The name of the land dragon is Glaurung, and yes, I think a boss fight where you battle Glaurung as Turin would be one of the best ever. Especially as he has to go and hide in a treacherous ravine (Cabed-en-Aras) and wait for the dragon to slither over, and then stab its belly from underneath. Glaurung is so much better a villain I believe than Smaug in the Hobbit. He's much more what you'd expect a dragon to be like...

I was just too tired to get Silmarillion and search the page :) and yes, he's much greater than Smaug, of course, cause he's the supreme dragon in his time, and Smaug is just the last and smallest of his line. After all, they're all dragons: both try to use their intelligence against their attackers, when they sense danger. And also their silver tongues, poisoned speaking, deadly eyes, to obtain victory.

A single movie adaptation of the Silmarillion would be impossible - admittedly it's much bigger and more complex than Lord of the Rings, but I see no reason why that wouldn't work in a filmic format, if told in the right way. Maybe a TV aeries, with different "seasons" focusing on the storylines of different characters. Most of the "meat" of the drama, remember, occurs in the space of one century at the end of the First Age; the rest of that is mere prelude.

Bfme II is better in terms of gameplay structure, if that makes sense. I mean, its more balanced and has no bugs (that I know of). But def. the mod is 100% better in terms of graphics and it's just more fun to play I think. :)

I would love to see a Silmarillion mod of Total War... just the thought of invading Angband and taking on the armies of Morgoth would be so awesome. And so many great heroes/villains to play as (or against) - could there be anything cooler than kicking Ancalagon the Black's ass as Earendil, or fighting in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad as Hurin? Not in the Lord of the Rings pantheon, that's for sure. Silmarillion makes LotR look about as epic as The Hobbit, in comparison.

I agree, a Silmarillion game would be awsome, although i dobt there will be any expensive movies about it, since it covers so much storyline.. A movie i think would be good though would be one about Tuor's journey or something about Thurin's life.

Maybe a TV series, a la Xena Warrior Princess, with each week covering different areas of the Silmarillion storyline - remember that although it does cover a LOT of history, most of the story takes place within just a few hundred years' timeframe. (Just!) That would suit the structure of the books and also keep viewers coming back each week, while watching Turin's storyline they'd want to know what was going on with Tuor. The budget would be HUGE though. Even George Lucas couldn't afford it.

And there are so many awesome one-to-one confrontations that would make for great boss fights. Fingolfin vs. Morgoth would be incredible. And then there's Hurin at the Nirnaeth, and the whole storyline with Turin could make for a game in itself. Dammit, why hasn't anyone picked up on the awesome potential of this book?

@ToWhomGodWill Issue is, Tolken fam is pretty stingy about releasing anything beyond whats already out there...they are protecting the trademark and don't want hollywood to destroy what is a pretty long standing epic tale.

You know how the more they expand on something, the cheesier it gets...so, Don't get too hopeful about the first, second, or forth age being released anytime soon (maybe when they all die and some greedy great grandson gets rights...)

Go to google. type in "third age total war" and press search. click on the second link called "Third Age - Total War 1.1 Released! - Total War Center Forums" and it should be self explanatory from there on. you need M2TW and kingdoms expansion installed or it won't work.

You can't buy it in stores. Get it from here, follow the install instructions and then your ready to go. Please note you'll need both Medieval 2 and Kingdoms expansion to install and play Third Age. Without Kingdoms it will not work. If you don't have kingdoms or both just torrent it.

As far as I've seen in the files there is no Sauron unit available but there must be one (I probably don't know it's internal name within the files) because if you use toggle_fow on the campaign map Sauron has a hidden fortress in a unreachable area of the NW part of the map. As for Nazgul? Yeah you'll have to edit your EDU file. And Oliphant? Yes, they call them Mumakil in game just a alternate game. They are available both in custom and campaign mode.
