  • tony blair is the first religious person who has made any sense in his arguments at all and concede on certain irrefutable things against religion..respect

  • Blair, you had me. You weren't about to convert me or anything, but I thought you had a very gentle and poetic opening statement... for a while.

But then you had to go and ruin it! You ruined it with that absolutely false statement about Hitler being an atheist! It is an outright lie, and you know it! You HAVE to know it! It's a part if history! You were the freaking prime minister, for crying out loud! You should KNOW that Hitler ran a theocracy! "God With Us" was their freaking motto!

  • @FrankLightheart

Hitler only did those things because he wanted the support of a large proportion of protestant and catholic germans, yes hitler was baptised , but so was stalin and stalin actually wanted to be a priest in his early years. neither proves a substantial faith in god.

  • lmao, 2hrs of Blair backtracking and Hitchens kicking his ass, brilliant

  • all my respectful Atheists,

i am a rustic man with some clear-cut rationale? in mind? .with the grace of ALLAH i catch up things so quickly, specially the irrational part of something .i humbly say i have forte to rebut your Atheism. i have a short video (2 min) for you , a challenge based .

also, don't forget to watch my 2 hours long video on subject of Atheism in your leisure.

    /watch?v=wpwbQAWt30E (2 min)

    /watch?v=czr8QqPLzgA ( 2 hrs )

don't call me names if i disillusion you from Atheism.

  • Blair's assertion that only compassionate bridge-building religion is true religion, if taken as an assertion of fact, is embarrassingly weak and worn. Every religious believer makes the tattered claim that his or her religion is the true one. All disown evil done in the name of God. That way, religion gets credit for the good and can externalize blame for the bad. But what if you consider his assertion as part of an argument being had among religionists--one that could potentially be won?

  • These two motherfuckers deserve to suffer because of their support for the Iraq war.

  • @MegaChairmanMao Hitches only downfall..... otherwise a king among men

  • No more bitches getting Hitch-slapped, genuinely sad, what a treasure he is.

  • why is it that every time some one thinks that religion is a problem, there called a Nazi or a Communist?

  • World got a lot dumber we he left it.

  • Wow, can we actually have intelligent discourse?

  • i would like to know how the voting turned out and how many were swayed either way

  • Hitchens was the most evolved communicator in our world. What a loss! There was no way anyone could hustle with him on an intellectual level.

  • 57:33 tony got it completely wrong, democracy isnt for benefit of the people as a whole,,its the oppression of 49% of the people by 51% of the people.

however we dont live in a democracy we live in a plutocracy masquerading as a republic.

  • @ace1sod You may do, but Tony and the rest of that audience don't

  • As a person I like Tony Blair, however, I do think he is very misguided. RIP Hitch

  • It almost makes me laugh when they claim Hitler was trying to destroy religion.

  • Comment removed

  • Love his tribute to Marcion of Sinope

  • 50:32 looks like he was thinking "Oh shit, what did I get myself into" LOL

  • 41:29 I'd like to globalize her!

  • Blair's face at 0:48:16 haha. Defeat.

  • 06:36

    Straight to Hitch

  • Oh mr. Blair... Nazism was based on atheism, and Einstein was religious? For a politician of your stature, this is unforgivable...

I think Hitchens was extremely soft in his wording and choice of subjects. He did not counter above mistakes of Blair, nor did he attack Blair for his constant referral to christianity as how he thought it should be - there are 2.2 billion christians in the world, and 2.200.000.001 opinions on what true christianity is. Too bad, Hitchens could have been devastating.

  • All Christians and atheists agree on one thing: there are no atheists in hell. LOL.

  • christopher hitchens in this video looks like bruce willis, and we all know something about bruce willis..... he kicks ass!

  • Thankyou Christopher, somehow you made it so much more clear...

  • anyone else feeling the urge to use hitchens's voice to narrate their thoughts?

  • @Sock1122 Seriously I was debating religion with someone and I retorted something in Hitch's accent... It diffused the tension at least.

  • @Sock1122 haha yes

  • @Sock1122 yeah, but I think I'll stick with Morgan Freeman

  • so hitchens sais that we shoul rely on our brain, the reasoning and...common sounse...; not in prozelitism, misionarism, lobby earners very well wrapped in the sour-sweet candy for the ignorants--the religion that is-the institusionalized and the "self-righteous" shapeshifter of churches and "charity fundations"!

  • @scathomancer the online translator that you're using isn't helping you out much

  • 26:15 .... Chris goes to smooth his hair. Sad.

  • I love the thumbnail

[My mind is full of fuck]

  • The amount of hitchslaps dished out here is astonishing

  • This crowd needs to learn that if you clap every 20 seconds you don't get to listen to the people you paid to listen to. When did everyone become so "X-factor"?

  • Christopher Hitchens will never be dead. He will always live on in our minds and thoughts. Sure a great man. I love him and miss him.

  • Tony Blair was a good Prime Minister. But I agree with Hitchens in this debate.

  • @BiggestBallsAround because the U.S. is filled with religious bigots

  • @agkjsdghjfkghsfdjkgh wow man, little blunt don't you think?...

  • @BiggestBaalsAround Because the U.S. is filled with religious bigots, that's why you don't see this

  • Why have I NEVER seen a debate of this caliber in the United States? Both parties and even the moderator actually know what they are talking about...

  • How banal is it to watch someone reading out a question that they wrote as opposed to just saying it? It's like a quick ad before the question.

  • another free thinker killed by tobacco, legalize cannabis

  • HUGE mistake on Tony's part! Yes, admit that religion has caused problems but he repeated it so many times it was supporting Hitchens!

  • Hitchens' acute retorts are to be only admired. It would be wrong to say Blair wasn't a intellect it I believe Christopher is able to dumfound anyone in a debate. He'll be truly missed.

  • I skipped Blair, only listened to Hitchens.

  • @InASexyDimension not much of a debate then.

  • @TheAdminty Well yea, but I knew Tony Blair was going to bullshit. *Heard some of his arguments actually*

  • @InASexyDimension wasn't having a nock ;)

  • oh Hitchens, Canada misses you dearly.

  • @ryanrenesis Like the rest of the world, my dear friend... like the rest of the world.

  • so i got through hitchens, started watching blair, got bored. Hitchens wins on his first point every time.

  • So after all of that what's the upshot? What are the final numbers? Hitchens clearly hit it out of the park but what was the voting tally?

  • @Kkevra

"Before the debate, 25% voted for, 55% voted against, and 20% undecided."

"After the debate, 32% voted for the motion, 68% voted against."

  • PS - click my icon & find some 30 playlists 3! devoted to Christopher Hitchens, from the rare 80's cspan in full - to his final (heart-wrenching!!) 1min8sec clip with an 8 year old texan girl. PS - I have met Tony Blair as he was my local MP, & I asked him at 8! if he ever wanted to be Prime Minister. icon!

  • 06:37 to get past the introductions

  • @lumpheadthump motherfuckin' thankyou

  • Tony Blair is a great deliverer of a rehearsed speech. But he's not a great intellect.

  • I felt sorry for Tony. He kept saying the same thing over ander over again and didnt bring up any valid points. Saying that religious people did bad things But also non religious people did bad things doesnt make it right :S Also, the bad things the non religious people did werent in the name of the non religion. The bad things religious people do are in name of religion. Christopher, you will be missed :(

  • haha he said ... doodoo!! WITH LOVE, PETER GRIFFIN

  • 1:16:55

    Now that's ...wow.

  • Was it painfully obvious to others that Tony knew he was fucked after Christopher's opening? It felt more like a political debate by Tony. He read off the script and didn't stray. Christopher took notes, and responded to Blair's points. Strong debater vs weak debater.

  • Does anybody know the results from the audience survey at the end?

  • @cycodoeboy

    PRE-DEBATE PRO: 25% CON:55% UNDECIDED:20%

    POST-DEBATE PRO: 32% CON: 68%

  • Where is my democracy where the two sides of an argument can debate without any fear in Tehran?!!! Death to the barbaric, tyrannical, anti- Iranian & evil unelected Islamic regime in Iran. Go Chris! Christopher Hitchens my 21 century hero

  • Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • If God resurrects Hitchens, I will be officially impressed.

  • Blair sounds like a country bumpkin,he's completely intellectually outclassed here!

  • @thedirtydeltas Tony Blair himself was a force for good in the world. It says something about Blair that Hitchens didn't tear him a new one.

    Nuff said.

  • Had I have been marking Blair in an essay he would have been marked down as his debate largely was of a political nature in that he actually avoided the question - but slid in alongside it- like a pen that falls down the side of a sofa cushion. Hitchens was spot on target.

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • It is a breath of fresh air to listen to two British heavyweight intellectuals engage in the cut and thrust of debate...........Almost compensates for the mass of dross found on youtube.

  • What I ask you after viewing this is whether Tony proves that the world is better for having religion, or simply that people will and do do both good and bad regardless of religion.

  • Tony never had a chance. (How could he?)

I almost feel sorry for him... almost.

  • I live in Northern Ireland. i'm afraid sectarianism is a serious issue here

  • EVERY WORD TONEY SAYS IS ENGLISH // BUT DID HE MAKE A SINGLE COGENT REMARK .. OR HELP ANYONE TO UNDERSTAND HIS POINT OF VIEW..

IT IS LIKE CHINESE RICE AND SQUID YOU GET A LOT BUT YOUR STILL HUNGRY..

IF CHRISTOPHER WAS NOT THERE I WOULD NEVER SIT THROUGH HIS CRAP.

  • "In respect of Jerusalem, it is absolutely imperative that we doodoo." - Tony Blair at 1:12:04

  • Man I hate seeing Hitch like this. I will always remember him looking as sharp as his mind is.

RIP, Hitch. Thank you for working to end ignorance against the religions of the world that mean to perpetuate it. You are, and ever shall be missed.

  • Zionism is all these religions which keep people fighting against each other while the sheperds of the sheep run off to the bank.

  • are they using a generator to power the lights?

  • In my opinion, I feel that the both of them are arguing about the wrong things. The biggest problem is the government and not religion. I am a Christian but I feel religion is manipulated by politicians to misinterpret and incite hate. Both Hitchens and Blair are for the wrong things - MORE GOVERNMENT.

  • @aykayddon the notion that religion is not responsible for an innumerable number of heinous acts is ridiculous. You will not have the satisfaction of acquitting religion of its crimes.

  • Christopher Hitchens nailed it constantly, time after time haha!

  • politicians aren't saying anything new - tony tried to win the croud with lines like: good people are GOOD...! Hitch is right - To have a healthy society every human being must be scientifically literate...

  • Yaawwwnnn Tony bores me

  • Hitchens had a great sense of humor, and a brilliant mind. He's sorely missed.

  • Tears are gathering as I watch Hitch!

It is such a shame he passed away, we lost a lot :(

  • Tony was thoroughly stomped into the dirt.

  • Hitchens clearly won the debate, given that religious issues are not something that people change their mind on quickly, I would assume that almost all of the vote changing came from the Undecided camp. If so, aprox 2/3 of the Undecided's were swayed by Hitchens, in other words Hitchens won the "open minded" crowd by a 2:1 ratio.

  • People gush at Obama's "oratory skill". Obama would seem mentally retarded trying to hold his own against Christopher Hitchens in a debate. Sadly, sophistication of thought and speech is nowhere in America's political sphere. Wish we had the kinds of debates that Brits are used to seeing in Parliament regularly.

  • I really like this debate.

Hitch is brilliant as always and even if I knew before watching that he would win this debate, I have to give Blair a lot of credit for participate in this.

But.... not even a great prime minister has a chance of beating the worlds greatest debater, Christopher Hitchens!

  • Right on for leaving the comments section open

  • good one.

  • Comment removed

  • Blair says some people need religion to do good, i say this just makes them weak. Religion prays on the weak minded, yes in some cases making them do good, in most other cases abhorent things based in igorance. The other point is religion leads to a greater understanding, i disagree i think religion acts a thought dictatorship towards any sought of free thinking philosophy, its supresses it's flock and demands that they do so of others. I don't think Blair is religious, not my definition of it.

  • The crowd acts to show support by laughing to great rebuttals by Hitchens but only displays that its nature is pathetic and actually religious and wanting to lessen his arguments with this act. When Blair does not rebut Hitchens's argument and passes it, remains stall and acts not.

Blair acts as if Religion and Atheism share the same weight in the horror of the past. We are going to have bigger wars because of Religion, not because lack of it!

  • tony blair speaks alot but says nothing.

  • @AdeptisInfurnis Once a politician, always a politician.

  • watch how many times blair looks down at his notes compared to hitchens.

  • These religious groups were charitable therefor they are true. - holy shit, It never ceases to amaze me how completely insane this sentiment is.

  • Oh for fuck sake. Quoting Mohammad the pedophile?

  • FUCK blood thirsty Tony Blair

  • i want to say "rest in peace" but Chris would probably hate it..

i have nothing but respect for this man..even though i disagree with some of his "stances" if you would say but overall, he was a man of wisdom, integrity, honesty who told it like it is..

    respect

  • @Alkindi90 He also didn't like being referred to as "Chris."

  • procommenter is copy-pasting the same insulting and degrading comment about Hitchens' sexuality on several videos. Ignore him, he's either a troll or misinformed about us giving a damn about anyone's sexuality, past or present. What matters is your brain, which is why we don't need to mention procommenter's sexuality to say that he is a worthless human being.

  • Comment removed

  • I honestly did not see that any side won or lost. In a debate like this the only real winner is humanity itself: You, me and everyone else.

Watching this debate I began to understand that with tolerance, engagement and understanding this could be the century that humans come together and create alot more 'good' in the world.

  • Major Intelligence vs Not so much

  • Comment removed

  • @procommenter What a disgusting and narrow minded point you make. Sexual preferences neither affect the intelligence nor goodness of a person. Hitchens, rallied against backward religious dogma holding so much of the world back, including the Middle East. Mothers and Children are abused all the time in the name of religion. Hitchens, simply advocated for strong solutions, as many hawks do. You Sir are sick!

  • @procommenter Hitchens' death was neither hollow nor retribution for anything. He may have had homosexual experiences but could hardly be called a "sodomite." Referring to him as one is a cheap shot. You're probably a closet case...

  • Laughing and joking with a mass-murderer ...I just lost a huge amount of respect for Hitchins

  • Christopher Hitchens should have been president of the US.

  • cool story bro

  • Tony Blair only held 1 argument in this debate... Religious people did some worse things but some good things aswell!

  • @resparee I agree. He couldn't escape from his singular argument

  • @resparee and also "look at all the bad stuff secularists do!"

  • The Bible says that God resurrected Jesus. Well, if he wants to do something really useful, he should resurrect Hitchens.

  • @fusedchromosome Totally agree

  • @fusedchromosome Haha that comment fucking killed me v.n v.n

  • @fusedchromosome That would infuriate Hitchens though... ;) RIP :'(

  • @fusedchromosome I though only religious people were stupid, I was wrong.

  • @fusedchromosome Fuck yeah.

  • It boggles my mind to the extent of bush era retardation that " X amount of charities are based in religion" is a positive argument. As many have stated before: How did religion make those initiatives better in any way?

  • @fusedchromosome Incorrect. "God" did not resurrect Jesus, in the sense that with that phrasing you imply Jesus as separate from the term "God." Jesus Christ is the Son and is different from the Father. However, Jesus resurrected himself, since he is God, and in his own words, had the power to lay down and raise up his own life. Who knows where Hitchens ended up, hopefully with God.

  • @celticwomanfan01 "he is God" but "is different from the Father," and talks to himself with nonsensical questions like "why have you forsaken me?" I believe the medical term is "multiple personality disorder." He must have been off his meds during the whole "I think I'll get myself (or is it my other self) crucified in order to pay my own blood debt for sins that haven't even been committed yet." It's entertaining to watch the mental gymnastics, but, quoting Hitchens, it's "white noise."

  • @celticwomanfan01

"Who knows where Hitchens ended up..."

That was the only "intellectually honest" part of that entire comment. The rest was just unsupported assertions. Ironically, theists of every color and stripe have been making these kinds of supernatural claims for thousands of years without the slightest hesitation. The funny thing is the less they know about the natural world, the more confident they are in their "knowledge" about the supernatural. Go figure!

  • @fusedchromosome why would God resurrect someone who doesn't think hes real?

  • @300pzl He's saying it would be more beneficial to society. -_-

  • Every religion has historically positioned itself as an equivalent for slavery, hatred, war and (or) irrational thinking, under a charity disguise, none of which is a good thing for any rational man or woman, or for any other human being that would not want to be rational. Religion has been, again and again, a fight for imposition of irrational ideology to others to obtain power....

  • @1984serpiente Hinduism,Parsi,Buddhism,Sikhism and Jainism have not, learn your damned history

  • Religion doesn't help reach out to people. People reach out to people...for whatever cause, whether you do it for your religion or feelings of good. People still are the ones who do it. God doesn't do anything...esp. since he doesn' exist.

  • George W Bush and Tony Blair: TWO CRIMINALS, TWO LUNATICS, TWO HORRIBLE HUMAN BEINGS who should be in jail for the rest of their wicked and mediocre lives for the killings of thousands and thousands of innocent people.

SHAME ON YOU TONY BLAIR. SHAME ON YOU, DISGUSTING GEORGE W BUSH.

Hitchens supported the war in Iraq, unfortunately. No one is perfect.

    Hitchens will be missed.

Tony Blair and George W Bush, please die soon.

  • @otavioandradas Pretty harsh huh?

  • @BamfFromLA not quite, not quite.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough courage to kill these two criminals myself. I do consider that killing people is very harsh, though. Also, I'd lose the rest of my life because of the criminal acts of two morons. Wishing their deaths is nothing in comparison to the harm they've done. I've never wished bad things to people, but these two mass-murderers are exceptions. I firmly believe that the world will be a much better place without their evil presence.

  • @otavioandradas What, what did Blair do that was so wrong?

  • @Roflcopter4b authorizing and supporting an invasion that killed thousands and thousands of innocents - and doing so based on lies such as the WMD fallacy - is very much wrong.

Tony Blair is a criminal. He and his demented pal George Bush ought to be in jail right now.

And NO, I did not support Saddam Hussein's regime, far from it. BUT we are in the 21st century. Bush and Blair are two coward medieval mass murderers.

  • @otavioandradas Bush used that as his flawed Casus Belli. I don't believe Blair did. Of course this was a breach of international law, and the war went on for far too long, but the intentions of the war were essentially good, at least on Blair's side. Bush is indeed a war criminal.

  • @Roflcopter4b He made an ass of himself in front of millions of people

  • who won?

  • @Micklol HITCHENS, with a very large margin...

  • I miss Hitch :(

  • I would not be surprised if Blair only agreed to this because he knew that Hitchens would not criticise him on his religious beliefs with regard to his decision to attack Iraq

(although he's such a fucking snake that I strongly suspect he uses the religious thing as a cover, to conveniently explain away an otherwise rather dubious decision to invade).

Blair knew Hitchens was one of the very few prominent free-thinking intellectuals who agrees with him on Iraq and wouldn't challenge him on it.
