Its not about Afganistan. Its about Pakistan. Their gearing up for a massive war against Pakistan (which has nuclear weapons). If we were to pull the troops out, the country would swiftly return to the Afghanistan of the 1990's. So supporting the troop withdrawal is supporting the crushing of the Afghan's basic rights.

The soviets put a puppet goverment into Afghanistan, which was supportive of their goals, and while there may have been "free" "healthcare", there wasn't enough food, and rampant regional discrimination against the Pashtuns, who are the majority in Afghanistan. I live in Huntsville AL and a large portion of the republican population who ALSO works on Redstone Arsenal and for the defense contractors start to freak when there's talk of decreasing troops. They say shit like "It's un-American" "Obama is losing the war on terrorism"........yada yada. My response is usually "You're worried about job security." My city's economy is so dependent on the war, it's scary. Especially after the shut down of the shuttle program.

Cenk, I don't get how you can celebrate getting Osama while lamenting at the troop surge... how do you think we caught Osama? Do you know where those SEAL's came from? They were undoubtedly stationed in Afghanistan.
I was never in support of the Iraqi mission, but the war in Afghanistan is an unpopular, but necessary, war. If we leave before the government can stand on its own, then we've failed. We are not going to fail.
