@cityflyguy It will always work for the GameCube as it's software can't be really updated. For the Wii it's a bit tricky as Nintendo is always pushing out new updates over the internet. However it's safe to say the GameCube will always work with it.
@pillarkutless777 I believe the SD Media Launcher doubles as an Action Replay and a Freeloader. But I'm not 100% sure, I haven't tried it in a long time.
@startup97 I'm not sure. I don't think the adapter works with SDHC cards, but since 2GB cards are usually not SDHC they may work. I would avoid anything larger than 2GB. I had an older Transcend 1GB and 2GB card that worked fine.
@karif11sotelo You have to buy the 'SD Media Launcher' product from Datel. They give you a special disc and a memory card adapter (which uses SD type memory cards)
@karif11sotelo The SD Media Launcher from Datel could be available on their website: (type it in as YouTube won't allow links) h t t p: // us.codejunkies. com but I'm unsure if they still sell it. You need the special disc and memory card adapter included in this kit to do anything in the video.
what are the names of the emulators that can be placed on the SD card and will play back on the gamecube/wii media launcher, other than the Genplus, I heard playing N64 games was quite possible and emulators for that?
I'm possitive this has been asked already but I need a precise answer. Can this be used to launch backups from the SD card instead of mini DVDs (which I can't burn to properly at the correct speed because I own a notebook and not a desktop)? I have searched the net but all I get are results for Wii (which I am not interested in). Any help you (or anyone) can give me would be much appreciated.
@darkmarvel I do think it's possible. But I have not tested this or tried it. I know I successfully did a rip of a game to an SD card. But I remember not being able to run it. Maybe I didn't follow a step, maybe the program was too old, but it may be possible.
@powerbook86 I've since bought a Wii but thank you either way. I never managed to get it to work but I think I will give it another shot because it's worth knowing (if only to help another gamer). Thanks
@theultimatesonicteam I know you can use Action Replay codes. I'm not sure if you can update in a bunch, but I think you can type in codes manually. Sorry if I don't fully understand your question.
@powerbook86 well u see i got the new gamecube action replay that is compatible with wii and u cant add codes so i was seeing if you can use the sd media launcher to add codes to games
I bought this wii key SD Adaptor thinking it can be used like a normal gamecube mem card, but it doesn't work that way. Is there any way to make it work that way? It's pretty much all I need now. Please help.
@MrPrGustavo I don't think so. The Wii won't see it as a memory card. Maybe if you hack the Wii this can be done. But to my knowledge you can't. However you can use the SD media launcher to copy memory cards, files, and saves that normally won't 'allow' themselves to be copied. However this is tricky, and the software is not 100%. I think I had better success with these utilities that were on my hacked Wii. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR SAVES TO ANOTHER MEMORY CARD. I lost saves while playing around.
I've got the same disc; using a Gamecube, but I can't get the darn thing to recognize the SD card adapter. No matter what I do, I just can't get it to work. I'm rather angry about this, because my friend just blew $30 on it, it seems. Can anyone help me out? I've e-mailed Datel about this, and I will also wait for a response from them.
@NeptuneNavigator01 Did you try inserting the memory card adapter after pressing the power button? Try Slot A and B. Also try using a cotton swab and a little amount of rubbing alcohol on the swab to clean the adapter and the memory card slot. But be careful and make sure everything dries.
@powerbook86 Yeah, tried every trick in the book, so to speak. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It's really finicky. Anyway, I haven't used it in a while, been doing other things.
iso's are CD images, you need to burn the .iso's to a ritek mini-DVDR, then put the CD in your gamecube. you need to put GCOS on your SD media launcher. start up the media launcher and start GCOS and it will load the GC game you burned
@inkedkoi ok, 1. loading gamecube backups doesnt work on the Wii from DVD (just from the SD card) 2. it doesnt work on the newest Wii drives (since you cant play Wii backup discs either)
im thinking of buying this. i will do more research about this. so far i hacked my psp and have a ds card for my ds. so im planning on getting this. have you ever had any problems with this?
There's no reason why it wouldn't work with the GameCube. It works with mine, and it's not like Nintendo can change the GameCube now. It may cease to work with the Wii's GameCube OS feature eventually (I haven't tested it on my Wii in a while), but it should have no problem working with the GameCube.
Not quite sure what you mean. Don't know who your replying to either. If an image file is *.GCM, you have to rename it, else the program you burn it with won't load it. Alot of the images I had were GCM, and I had to fix a few oversized/undersized also.
I bought the SD launcher and some blank discs for my GCN - grabbed a few images off the web (all correct size), renamed to iso, burned them to the disc using several different burners and PC's, booting up with the GCOS 1.5 (PSO) (I followed the guides to the letter), yet all give me 'media can't be recognized'. I'm extremely angry ending up with dozens of coasters yet again. This method is just as unreliable the Wii Backup Launcher which kept giving me DVD errors.
You claim to be using the SD Media Launcher, yet you appear to be booting up Action Replay in your video? I'm confused. My SD Media Launcher (purchased in 2007, so probably an older revision) says "SD Media Launcher" during the boot sequence.
Hey, can you play Japanese/import backup files saved on the SD card in SD Media Launcher, on a US gamecube? If no, is there a way to region patch the Japanese files to US or somethin?
By files do you mean saved memory card files or ripped games? I'm not sure about either one, however I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play a different region if you already had the media launcher working.
i heard a rumor that if you still do that it will only load the gcos screen and no more but try it because im not sure and im gonna try it in like 1-2 days
hey its alright dude i know another way...but only need one thing...sd media launcher and then you can use gcos and if its the same then still use sd media launcher then use a program called sd-boot just put gcm's on a sd then use sd-boot via sd media launcher then it will work and if not then try on a gamecube via sd media luancher via sd-boot then you dont have to move the laser with a POT try it for sure it would work because datels sdml older didnt work and the newer ones do
Yeah I know, the point of the video was to demonstrate that the newest version of the Datel Media Launcher does work on the Wii with the latest software update. The previous version of the Media Launcher was unusable after a Wii software update, so the new version fixes this issue. At least for now.

the 1st time i put the card in afterwards, after that i accidentally left it in & yay it works. my wii is quite new, ive ad 1 or 2 updates but it still works which surprised me. got snes, nes & megadrive on, avin trouble getin master system & gameboy but wont be long im sure
Yes if you boot up the disc without the memory card SD adapter in the slot you should get an Action Replay menu, the top item on the list for each region (switch by pressing Y or X) is the freeloader feature. Thanks for reading my post, enjoy! :)
Make sure the disc says it's for your region. They sent me one for European consoles, I e-mailed them and they sent me the correct disc within a week.
Thanks, I didn't want to waste my money on it. So now I'll definitely buy it!
Now for those using this method and want to run GC backups, download GCoS
You'll need it.
