I was lucky enough to get an N64 for Christmas the first year it came out. All the games were sold out except this one, so I bought it. My God I'm so glad I ended up with KI Gold. It was so epic. I shudder to think how my Christmas break would have been if it were Pilot Wings or Wave Race.

Well, duh... but it was fun. Which is more than many other fighters can say.

No fighting game fan will say KI was deep, but it was addictive and was a blast to play.

Which in the end, is what a video game regardless of genre is all about. :)

Killer Instinct Gold was one of my favorite fighting games, at the time of course. Surprisingly enough, I saw virtually no media or other fans of it, or anything.

God, I'd spend hours on it though.

Killer Instinct 2 and Gold were absolute abominations.

The original KI is still my favorite arcade game of all time, and I've been searching for YEARS to find a working arcade cabinet I could afford.

But this right her...just, no. This sort of marked the downfall of Rare for me.

You can get an Ultra64 PC emu with the original KI (& KI2) arcade. Don't ask me where, though, but I've seen it & its pretty freaking cool. Crashes every so often, but infrequently so

MK stopped being a good franchise after Ultimate MK3. Killer Instinct advanced the fighting genre with a better combo system, better graphics, better music, more fluid gameplay and control (where MK was always static/stop and go button mashing unless performing a fatality where sequence actually mattered) and multidimensional characters. Too bad Microsoft ruined Rare.

Said it before & I'll say it again. MK was only popular cause of it's goar factor, even though KI had the better fighting & combo system. Therfor KI was/is better than MK, in my opinion anyway :).
