@smithtobi d-Chiroinositol is an interesting compound. In one large randomized double blind study that we participated in on the product INS-1, this product was not shown to be effective. I have not seen other studies since then that were of similar design. This supplement may improve insulin resistance.

What new medications is the medical community working on to deal with PCOS. I've treid metformin and its counerparts in the lowest dosages avail and my stomach will in no means tolerate it/them.
@smithtobi Please see my note to you above. If weight loss is not an issue, the use of a thiazolidinedione may be effective. Yet, other natural supplements could be of benefit as well.
I have PCOS, I found out about 4 weeks ago. My doctors havent told me much about it all I know is whats on the internet and the more i look into it the more down i get. My doctors havent gone through treatments or nothing with me. I know it cant be cured but should whats the best treatments? Im not over weight but my periods are all over the place. I suffer miganes and heard the pill isnt good because of the containdications etc. Im worried if I leave it it will get worse.
My DR. told me I might have PCOS so I will go this week to find out. I"m in my early 30's but I have four kids so I don't know why I would have a hard time having kids. not that I want any more lol. but I hope everything goes well. has any one Had the PCOS ? and if so what did the DR to to help you with it. ?
it's weird for me cause i used to be overweight and now i lost a lot of weight but i still won't get my period. can someone tell me why? i still workout and eat healthy but i haven't had my period.
@mylove1 Sometimes weight loss may create a problem, or you may be working out too much. A reproductive endocrinologist will likely be the best person to help you sort this out.
What do you do if you have PCOS and Crohn's disease. All my doctor ever wants to do to treat my PCOS is by taking birth control. I have recently switched from taking Ovcon 50 to taking Seasonique. I was on Ovcon for almost a year and I was doing well on it until the last 3 months, I just got really sick again. So sick that I cannot hold down a job. I was put on Seasonique and I've been on it for a month a 5 days, and I've only noticed a slight improvement so far. Nausea is the worst symptom.
since i had my menstruation wen i was 12y/o, i experienced irreguLarity. but wen i got 18, yir2007, i didn't hav menstruation 4 10mos. i went in an ob-gyne 2 hav my check up. she didn't said any aLarming thing on me having poLycystic ovaries. she recomended me a medicine named provera. i took it 4 1wik, 1tabLet a day but it caused me nothing. i took a herbaL medicine and had my menstruation agen but stiL it was irreguLar.
Diet, exercise and an insulin sensitizer can normalize periods in up to 85% of women. So there is hope and you can increase your overall health by addressing this condition when you are young.
I started having PCOS problems when I hit puberty at 10, wasn't diagnosed until I was 18, and wasn't told anything about it until 6 months ago (new doctor) and I am 31 now. Kinda Pissed!!!! Seeing as I now have a huge weight problem (even when eating healthy), type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and anxiety attacks caused by elevated insulin levels that are caused by stress. I am thankful that young people today have more resources to help them through this! I'll be praying for you cysters!
Im 16 and i just got diagnosed with PCOS by my OBGYN, i did an ultrasound and she looked at it and called me back and said i had this disease, is looking at ultrasound pictures enough to diagnose me with this disease?
This video is very helpful and hopeful. I really wished I knew what PCOS was before I was diagnosed while ttc. Clomid didn't seem to work for us but I didn't need IVF either. I was given shots to trigger ovulation and it worked and I gave birth to my 1st daughter! I lost ~30 pounds from breastfeeding and we got pregnant using absolutely NOTHING with our 2nd daughter. It's not just about conceiving now for me. It's about being healthy!
Im 20 and i was just recently diagnosed last week with this and am glad to have an answer finally as to why i havent had my period for over a year now
I have PCOS since I was 12, or at least all the symptoms. I was on diet for 15 years, and begun using Metformin few years ago. I was seriously depressed by the time and was also on medication for that. By now I stopped the depression medication, and am still on Metformin. I noticed though that if I don't take metformin for more that a day, I get depressed again without any reason. Does anyone know if there is any research about that?
am 19 n ave had pcos since i was bout 12-14 n ave had the metformin tablets bt they caused heavy diorreah with me so a wis took off them then a tried them again bt the same thing happened.its hard to cope with for me.i have heavy hirtuism too......it hard to cope with
i was told i had it last month its really scary because im 17 and i have sex and i cant tell if im pregnant or not is their somthing i can do 2 stop it or help
i havent had my period since may n before tht i hadnt gotten it for a year. i've always been regular before. my cousin was diagnosed a lil while ago. we r both over weight. i typed in the symptoms n got this. how is this diagnosed bc i don't want them putting a camera down there. i'm trying to lose weight but id have a lot of support
Ovarian drilling is an expensive, last reserve approach. Low glycemic diet and exercise along with an insulin sensitizer should be tried first. Drilling can cause adhesions and does not seem to work with smokers.
i think i have pcos although i havent go to doctor yet to checkit out but i have a feeling cuz my menstrations is irregular..i dont want to have this..is this pcos deadly?somebody answer what to do..tnx...
I'm 19 and was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago. I'm still struggling with the diagnosis. Metformin (for the insulin resistance) makes me feel sick, but I take it...it's so hard to lose weight. I drink Slimfast for lunch, salads for dinner, and going to the gym everyday. (although I'm not going today as usual because my period cramps are particularly bad)
I've been overweight my whole life despite me eating healthy (never liked junk food much) and I still feel like a fat freak. :(
Metformin works best if it is the generic form. You should consider taking it at the end of a meal with a full glass of water. Taking it on an empty stomach can cause GI distress. Also, avoid processed carbs which can increase cramping and diarrhea. It is also advisable to build the dose gradually to an effective level.

Sure. In fact, it is rather common for some women to gain weight, or develop insulin resistance after a delivery. Low glycemic diet and exercise are a good first step. If not sufficient, your MD may prescribe metformin when you are done breast feeding.

Dr. Perloe..what are your thoughts on The functional role of D-chiro-inositol (DCI) in PCOS and taking a supplement of this to assist.
2. How or what role to you take when someone wants to go the natural route without western medicine?
