small suggestion about cooking water... normally i make rice with broth... to enhance the flavor.. maybe in a pinch having a few cans in your stock may help stretch your water... find coupons and match them up with sales to get the best deals.. or buy generic...
Excellent video, better to be prepared than to get caught with your pants down. Anyway, I have been storing my brown rice in the freezer since it does not last as long as white rice. Again thank you for your video.
Just wanted to share a piece of info, you can get food grade buckets FREE at your local grocery store in the bakery section or if you have a local bakery. They get these buckets filled with icing and they are glad to give them away free. You could store your bags of rice and beans etc to help with bugs, light and moisture. Just ask if they have any empty buckets with lids we get a couple each time we go.
I am just beginning my food storage! On the water subject I am using 2 liter pop bottles and water jugs for drinking and cooking water. I am using milk jugs for flushing toilet and adding bleach for washing dishs and taking spounge bath. Thats my plan anyways. TY for your video! If you have any tips for me let me know.
@The4h4h Check out the LDS canneries, I do not agree with their religious views but you cannot beat their prices. And most of their goods last 25 to 30 years.
you put your face on there. Obama wont have to go far to look for you

I store a bit of food but tend to go for a lot of storage of few basic essentials, basically rice and beans.
I wouldn't never store stuff like sugar or pancake mix or....but of course it would get depressing to be eating the same stuff all the time.

Good supply of stored water. That looks like a good week supply without bathing.
You should look into a well or a way to recycle that if you're holed up.

Soak your pinto beans (and other dried beans, peas and grains) overnight to greatly reduce the cooking time.

pancake mix will NOT store more than 2 yrs, eating old mix can make you very sick so be careful.
you have a good variety, keep it up.

@ThoTrav Thanks for the tip ! I guess I'll be having a lot of pancakes sooner than I had anticipated. lol
Philnatic1776 1 year ago
@ThoTrav I have read that if you store pancake mix in the freezer you can prolong the shelf life more than 2 years.
