The US has more very modern aircraft (450 Super Hornets, 222 Strike Eagles, 646 F-16 Block 40, 42, 50, & 52, 170 F-22's, 20 B-2's, & 66 B-1's) while being supplemented by a couple thousand more supporting fighter/bomber aircraft.
Russia is matched in terms of technology, but the US has many more high quality systems which are further supplemented by large amounts of adequate equipment.

I will admit though, the US was the strongest in the 80's but we are losing the ability to fight. We are losing our war fighting abilitys to the Russians and Chinese who have been building up in peacetime. But scales will turn again eventually. It's just how it goes.
Don't compare the Iraq war with Georgia. Russia fought a small conventional army. Iraq had a fairly large convential army and a large insurgent army. In the Iraq war the US Took more land in less time with less loss of US life then the Russian army could ever dream of. We didn't start taking losses until the Insrugents realy started fighting. @Darkdrium I would have to say that the US would undoubtedly win a war with Russia.
The US has more very modern aircraft (450 Super Hornets, 222 Strike Eagles, 646 F-16 Block 40, 42, 50, & 52, 170 F-22's, 20 B-2's, & 66 B-1's) while being supplemented by a couple thousand more supporting fighter/bomber aircraft.
Russia is matched in terms of technology, but the US has many more high quality systems which are further supplemented by large amounts of adequate equipment.

Don't compare the Iraq war with Georgia. Russia fought a small conventional army. Iraq had a fairly large convential army and a large insurgent army. In the Iraq war the US Took more land in less time with less loss of US life then the Russian army could ever dream of. We didn't start taking losses until the Insrugents realy started fighting. The US is researching a cheaper 5th generation alternative called the F-35 Lightning II, which is an international joint venture (between the US and 8 allies). Its designed be to second to the F22 in terms of air superiority though, which is exclusive to the US.

@rusmanna The AK47 is the most used weapon because the USSR and China flooded the world with them or AK-lookalikes. And the original M193 ammo used in M16's actually caused considerably more damage than the AK47's 7.62x39 inside of 150 yards.
The AK47 was cheaply designed and made with extremely lax tolerances for largely untrained troops. In that sense, it serves its purpose extremely well. I'd still take an AR15/M16 over an AK though; I for one actually like hitting what I'm aiming at.
