  • Your tone is totally sick! I've been searching this demo for so long... gread vid!

  • you can use any crappy solid state amp for this buzz saw sound you are "demoing" here.

If you want dynamics, and complexity, get a mark V...

  • what is the second song you played

  • You're like one of the three guys on youtube that shows how brutal this amp is. Well done.

  • Great tone!

  • sicc

  • what tuning are u in

  • @joerobotpants1234 sounds like drop C# (Db)

  • amazing riffing dude and the really show how great the mark v is like no other video. i wanted to know if it could achieve the down tuned aggressiveness i use great video

  • @jakelongmetal thanks dude ... of course it could, its actualy great at holding its shit together in that area. i actualy prefer playing my 7 string through the mark than i do my recto. the mark saturates alot better and doesnt fall apart when you play low. it also has a nice midrange definition that you need with that low stuff. i recomend

  • Sorry for my english...when i was 8 , my mom buy me a mesa mk3 blue stripe from a montréal store...belive me i play with it again and again...last 2 month i have buy a mk5 head...only 2 month, sold it and i decide to keep my old mk3...more brutal...eq are more sensitive on the mk3 , mk5 have too much but nothing perfect...mk3 are simple but it does waht it suppose to do...mk3 win for me !!!

  • @sweethouze28 i m 33 now!!!

  • @sweethouze28 Damn, what a nice mom!

  • @sweethouze28 fuck yes! finally someone who agrees with me. my mark iii green stripe slays and im keeping that amp forever

  • Wow..didn't now a Mark V could be made to sound like crap. Sounds like a Line 6 amp dude..good lord don't scoop out all the mids.

  • @muriloninja You r right!

  • your mark 5 sounds way heavier than most of other ones played on youtube...i like that!

  • what as i lay dying song was that riff from?

  • get more mids for a better agressive sound. I ll always love the Mark series

  • I can't get half as much gain out of my Mark V. Mine seriously just lacks the gain, I don't know what the fuck is going on.

  • @ESP4thaWin read the manual , fiddle with the treble and presence knobs the more you increase them the more gain and chunk you will get !

  • @ESP4thaWin

It depends alot on your cabinet and guitar dude. Trust me, I just found out that my cab sucked shit. I bought a 2x12 mesa cab, and it brought my mark V to life.

  • @dekzan

3 ch rectos are pure chug amps there overly bassy, no note definition even with an od, 2 chs are the way to go imo a 2 ch recto dirty tone kills a mark iv or v dirty outta the water, of course the marks are more versatile though.

  • I fucking want, this damn fucking amp!!

  • nice compression on the camera!

  • sounds fucking great, sick melodeath riffs!

  • sweet vid

  • mindblowing tone pawns all the other amps out there no doubt, mids and basses boosted

  • Lol you have a slayer poster but you decide to play shit metalcore

  • @Imminentdeception forgot you gotta listen to fat hairy guys playing the "true" definition of metal...

  • @NdNKorn101 damn straight

  • @Imminentdeception lame lol

  • @Imminentdeception Lol seriously? Better than generic thrash power chords tremolo picking...

  • @clwnz777 Agreed, Thrash metal is very repetitive and boring after awhile however my logic wasnt explaining that thrash metal was superior im simply saying it is almost a contradiction that he is a slayer fan and likes GENERIC metalcore

  • @Imminentdeception Just because he's a fan of Slayer doesn't mean he can't like anything else... I don't see where you get the generic from. What he played wasn't generic. Better than all those chug chug shitty metalcore bands. Thrash all sounds the same = generic.

  • @clwnz777 Your absolutely right thrash does sound the same! do you want a cookie? cause after all i wasnt saying thrash didnt sound the same you dumbfuck

  • dude that is buzzy tone and then some !! you need to add some mids bro

  • I agree. The ENGL seems to have a mean growling sound. I found my Mesa Triple to be grainny and way bassy and sold it. Also had a Krankenstein and didn like it either. If you hear Loomis. He uses Pwball. Hv a good day.

  • @dekzan since when does loomis use that? I know he has used dual recs and krank amps. Never have seen him with an engl.

  • @AutoDidactic26 actually he's right. Loomis uses the Powerball

  • ENGL Powerball assassinates all other amps with no mercy

  • @dekzan That's a big negative sir.

  • @dekzan yeah mabye untill you crank it and it sounds shit

  • i want one of these so bad, but i have no job and not enough money for it :(

  • Do you have the eq on? If yes, why no mid?

  • @ESP4thaWin i am not a fan of too much mids, marks are already mid heavy amps as it is

  • @brbong if you're not a fan of mids, why on earth did you buy a mark V?

  • What kind of configuration(eq and levels) do u use???

  • Seriously tight playing as well dude, nice job

  • THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT!!!

  • I use a randall (tube) amp with a processor. My tone is very similar to yours but not quite as good. The randall has a closed back (combo) which gives it lots of low end. I too use ESP guitars and jackson both with emg 81, 60 combos. Jackson had a 85 but I can't stand the 85 so replaced it with 60. I'll shut up now. later

    keep picking

    Chris

  • I love that tone. I'm old dude and been around. Your tone reminds me of the 80's, early 90's when the mark iv was popular. I have a hundred questions for you, if you don't mind? c.lucusarts at gmail . com email me dude. If you don't mind. I'm on a mission for tone.....

  • Woww Sound Great

  • Man do i wish I could afford one of those!

  • oh.my.god. Oragasmic tone! i wish the Mark V was cheaper so i could afford it :(

  • dude..u kick ass.. cheers

  • holy mother fucking boner smoke cock cunt fuck thats a brutal ass tone you've got there.

  • Death!

  • I meant 10 not 45

  • And the gain is still good and everything at 45?

  • Dude is the volume on this comfortable to play in you room?

  • @123h8ter321 yes because it has a 10-45-90 watt volume attenuator built into the amp

  • @brbong are you in a band? Cause those are some awesome riffs!!!! \m/

  • Man this tone made my crap my pants in a good way!! :D

    Phenomenal tone and great playing!!

  • I've got the Mark 5 combo - after 30 years of saving up for it.... It is the holy grail of the valves. The end of the road. The last one standing.

  • what is the tuning of your guitar in this vid ?

  • Great amp, great sound.

What you think about the Peavey 6505/6505+?

  • I notice a lot of people are using 2x12s these days, any sonic advantages over a 4x12 or just more practical?

  • @thrasher10000 it's just because 2x12's arent as loud, so you can play at home without busting your eardrums or disturbing your neighbors lol

  • iITS FCK LOUD FUCK I WANT THIS AMP =.=

  • wooooooooow

  • such a unique tone

  • what a bunch of amazing riffs man!espesially from 1:15 what is that?

  • @antreaslo all riffs are original besides the as i lay dying riff that i play starting at 46 seconds to about 1:02

  • sounds great man, I was looking at picking up the same amp (just alot of money haha) I am looking for similar tones, good gain and the brightness of the amp and sustainability... Looks like it's holding up well.

    Rock on

  • great sound, hope your neighbours are happy as well :p

  • From which song is the riff form 0:22 to 0:28? it kinda rocks

  • @BlackDuck35 thats just a little something i came up with that went nicely with the as i lay dying riff

  • what are you playing form 0:46 until 1:02 ? It is sooo amazing!! :)

  • @BlueShirt7 its a riff from an as i lay dying song called reflections .... i fucking love that riff

  • @crate718 thanks !!

  • @brbong shut up!

  • @brbong no srsly you rock love your playing keep on doing it

  • Sounds great man. Got me very interested in this head.

  • what cab would you suggest to use with this baby for some badass metal tones? thinking about getting the Rectifier cab but i see you have a Bogner and have excellent tone with it. keep it up man great video!

  • @Pedalbored thanks dude ... i like my bogner 2x12 for inside my house where i dont need to crank the amp, but the recto cab is awesome too ive owned 2 of the 4x12s, you cant go wrong, mesa makes one of the best cabinets on the market ... just make sure you stick with quality companies and your good ... speakers and all that are preference, but i always prefer vintage 30's with all the mesas ive owned over the years .... try some out and see what you like best

  • @Pedalbored Recto cab is the way to go.

  • DAYUM!

  • Thank you, finally someone who knows how to eq a mark v for metal. You should've mic'd the thing for better audio though, but this'll do.

  • @gearslut69 thanks, i just made these few vids to show off the room sound of the amp ... i have actual recorded clips over a drum track under my vids if you wanted to check it out

  • when I was lookin around for an amp i just looked for LOUD. and my favs play mesa and marshall. so I went the mesa route. I havent explored the possibility of being guitar. I have a kramer which plays well. but has just a dimarzio some previous owner installed. I have been thinking about putting either the sh-8 invader or an e-81. But I just thought maybe there would be an easy answer. the mesa sounds GREAT Its just sounds so thick and chunky and i kinda want to think it out a little.

  • HOLY CRAP. I got a dual rec but i cant get anything like that. I must be doing something wrong....got the metal zone and that wakes it up, but makes my highs for soloing sound muffled....guess I should look at gettin one of these unless someone has any suggestions?

  • @yamaduderory i have a great suggestion ..... stop using a metal zone ...... why would you buy a recto to not use the distortion of the amp

  • @brbong well it doesnt seem like i get enough distortion. and what i do get sounds really "thick" I guess youd say. I want that shredding sound the metal zone kinda thins it out a little and boosts the gain so it sounds good. just like i say, i try to do solo stuff and it sounds "muffled" highs dont sound bright and trebly I guess lol Im not good at explainin

  • @brbong but this is a mk series not a rectifier

  • @yamaduderory ...loads of money and no interest to know what you actually buy...that's my real opinion while reading what you wrote here.... it's like someone who buys a ferrari and says he cant go faster than 100mph ^^

  • @RustyPease I admit im not an avid guitar player....strum here and there from time to time....played alot more when i was younger before the family. but that doesnt mean I have to buy shit. When I was wanting an amp I wanted LOUD cuz had a drummer/friend I would jam with sometimes. got tired of being drowned out all the time.....yea the mesa solved THAT problem lol

  • @yamaduderory why would you use a metal zone with a dual rec? Are you not polluting the classy rec tone with cheap distortion? If I were you I would invest in a maxon 808 to boost the tubes. It will give you extra gain and tighten the amp too

  • Comment removed

  • Dude,

Your stuff sounds so metal!!! I have the feeling that the others on youtube use way less gain then you do...

At what level did you set the gain?

  • I shit myself, need toilet paper real bad right now, the best metal amp ever created , thanks MARK 5! And all that tone at either 10 watts bedroom or 90watts bedroom volume, or blow your head of volume levels. All sounds supreme. rock on!

  • are you using any pedals or is that pure tone?

  • @zachsara7 its all amp dude read the description ... i dont and would never own any boost pedal

  • @brbong awsome because i am picking my head up today and that is the most brutal sound i have heard out of the V.

  • @brbong i guess i should also say that your got that tone all by yourself and did a great job with it. keep ripping brother.

  • @brbong

I'm curious. Why would you use active pickups that have an internal boost, eq, and compression but never boost an amp with a pedal? Seems kinda contradictory. Anyway, I appreciate your clip. It's difficult to find good metal clips of the Mark V on YouTube.

  • @trniquet thanks for the complement ... but i think your statement on emgs having the same effect as a boost pedal is somewhat retarted...

  • @brbong No, what's retarded is being a hypocrite and and asshole. You don't understand your own equipment. Good luck with you basement wankery, loser.

  • @trniquet i may be an asshole, your right i get that all the time ... but how am i a hypocrite ??? in what way does an active pickup have the same affect on tone as running a boost pedal in front of an amp ?? i just dont get what your trying to say, and i think that your calling me out on something that makes no sense at all. have a nice day and if you dont like my vids dont watch them, i made them for people interested in buying the amp.

  • @trniquet You are a fucking idiot.

An active pickup does NOT have the same effect as boosting the front end of your amp.

It just makes your amp sounds stale, flat, and lifeless.

Boosting it can do a number of things, tighten the tone, boost the gain on a lower gain amp, or add a certain colouring to the tone the amp doesn't normally have.

    Active pickup =/= boost.

I hope you're happy with being a total moron.

  • @JVM410ftw Hi, Dipshit! An active pickup, especially one like an EMG 85 or 81 uses an internal preamp to boost the signal coming from the coil. Both of these use a low-power bar magnet to reduce string pull and doppler-effects of pole pieces (this increases sustain). As a result, the signal generated by the coil is too weak to be adequate for driving a preamp. So, a powered preamp is used to boost the signal to a set level, and to adjust EQ and reduce noise.

  • @trniquet I already know ALL of this, and Then some.

And after a decade and a half of playing, I can tell you it does STILL not serve even a similar function.

The tonal colouring is very different, it does not so much boost your signal above what it normally is as a typical boost, just boosts the weak signal of the pickup to give off the perception that it's higher output than it really is.

And all that comes at the price of headroom, btw. Which makes active pickups undesireable for many.

  • Respond to this video... The point of all of the above is to show you that many of the same characteristics of tone alteration are used in active pickups as in boost pedals. However, whereas the pickups are a set device with no flexibility, a boost is adjustable. Hence, my original question to brbong: why would you swear off of using a boost, when your pickups are in fact acting as a boost to your preamp? BTW: I don't think there's anything wrong with either approach.

  • Respond to this video... All the info I've listed is part of EMG's own literature on their website. I won't claim that active pickups and boosts sound the same and serve identical functions, but they employ different solutions to common signal processing problems. If you think that's moronic, you may want to reexamine your understanding of the word.

  • At what level do you use the gain?

You bring out teh metalzzzzz with that thing!!!!

All the other vidz dont get as much into metal as you do...

  • Wow... Nice flashlight.

  • Godlike tone. Wanted one of these since i started listening to Lamb Of God. Too bad it would cost me a kidney.

  • @IIVikingII Exact same man , i hate playing lamb of god when i have a shitty tone , ive never believed you can get decent metal tone from just an amp , i always thought you needed a ton of pedals , but you could just use this amp and a speaker cab and you have more than perfect metal tone , especially for lamb of god , willie and mark , 2 of the best tonal monsters in the business , L O G ! <3

  • holy shit, i need a job

  • Holy shit the bottom end is tight! I'm digging your tone man, its like perfect balance between tight/round bottom end + very clear high end/sharpness. =)

  • sound freaking amazing!!!

  • mark 5 or dule rect for death metal??

  • @moneymoney220666 both are good ..... buy both of them and run them in stereo

  • @moneymoney220666 Mark V is awesome for whatever you want to play. and its insanely loud!!

  • @moneymoney220666 I would say dual rec because it's more dirty and grainy sounding. Mark V is better for thrash where you need tight fast attack

  • nice tone, ive noticed that a couple clips of this amp sound really good (like yours) but the most of them sound extremely dry with the gain and doesn't really sound "metal", you say its just people cant dial it in or what?

  • dude this is sick...

  • my mate got one of these (mark 5 combo 1x12) for xmas... i have a fucking peavey bandit... how the fuck is my lead going to cut through this for fuck sake... D: I need an ENGL now he has a mark V omfg

  • AAHHH DSDBJFBMUAYSDFGKDF!!! THAT SOUNDED SO BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE THE DISTORTION ON THAT! I HAVE TO GET ONE!

  • This is just BRUTAL! Great job man

  • That is some brutal shit man.

  • This is full of win with some awesome sauce on the side.

  • You sound like a down picker. Especially at the Reflection part. great stuff man.

  • excuse me while I go change my pants...

  • behold the greatest amp EVER!!!!!!!! Great playin dude! My face is officially melted>>>

  • Dude... I keep watching this Vid and it keeps me saving for a Mark V and ive owned most.. sadley.... this is by far the or one of the best clips on the net, what would be super rad is to see what its like with lower tunings man, e.g B tuning slipknot people = shit, hatebreed C# etc.. be a prime example to show why the 5 shits on bogner :-) please keep em coming man!

  • These were not discontinued. They're brand new and still in production. The mark IV,III,II, and I are discontinued.

  • arent these discountinued or am i thinking of a different mesa?

  • God that's an orgasmic tone.

  • diezel herbert or this

  • @munchy040 honestly dude id take this mark 5 over anything .... ive owned overpriced expensive amps and i just dont understand why there worth what they sell for .... the herbie goes for what $5k after taxes ...fuck that shit the mark gets into that brutal gain territory at half the price

  • @brbong your right i did have a mark v i sold it for the 2010 multiwatt dual rec big mistake now i either want the mark v back or the diezel herbert ! i think the mark v is tighter and has a bit more gain than herbert but it just dosnt quite sound as big as the herby .... i dunno !

  • yo wut speakers r in ur cab

  • I agree with brbong. I have a mark V and took his settings and it sounds inhuman. Nothing beats it.

  • um ik youre supposed to be showcasing the amp, but i just jizzed, youre amazing dude

  • whoa.... Freaking off the charts tone there brotherl

  • Do these things have any "punch"?

  • @bchewdown your kidding right !! these things will knock you out

  • @munchy040 I got the chance to fucc aroun with one yesterday...They are nice. The amp was on a stiletto cab and it was really tight. It will take some getting used to for me. I imagine it would have the punch i'm looking fer with the right cab. Perhaps the Recto cab?

  • @bchewdown i owned 1 and ran it through a mesa stiletto 4x12 straight front cab and it was awesome , unfortunently i sold it for a 2010 dual rec big mistake .... the dual rec is sick but it just cant do what the mark v does

  • @bchewdown now im trying to sell the dual rec

  • @munchy040 Too bad you couldn't keep both...

  • How does this setting handle C standard? Or low tunings?

  • is that a dildo next to the head?

  • @arini10 I believe it is a FLESHLIGHT...

  • is that a dildo next to the head?

  • Hell of a tone you got there, it's almost enough to rip your face off with the grittiness, but smooth enough to ear every note.

  • You can make this amp sound A LOT better than all other Mark V videos out there...

  • what song ?

  • @Leeh129 the riff from 0:45-1:02 is an as i lay dying riff from the song reflection .....all the rest of the noodling is stuff i came up with on the spot for my vids

  • @brbong And spirit crusher in the beggining?

  • @brbong

    hey dude

Do you know if there is a distortion pedal

with the same distortion as the mark v

    I love the distortion

  • @LaMPje131313 pedals are gay dude save up and buy the real deal ..... there isnt even a close comparison

  • @brbong Pedals don't have a sexual orientation

  • @brbong Man talks the truth.

  • @brbong Thank you!! You're the only other person I've ever seen that thinks that. I can't stand player that pedal their amps out and drown out the sound with lame pedals... haha

I just plug into my amp and play! simple enough.

    Great amp, dude!

  • @LaMPje131313 the elro harmobix shit is good or mxr metal i hate distortion pedals

  • @LaMPje131313 pedals are modelling tone, u'll never get the same / better tone than a mark 5 with pedal. and it just sounds digital, not good for recording as well. man up, buddy.
