@4467j Cape Verde is not ONE island; it consists of several islands, Sol is the name of the 'black' island because the (future) slaves were taken there to be shipped to the America's. Many were stuck on Sol because they married the Portugese and got mixed up with each other. Other Cape Verde islands are more white. The Cape Verdes were uninhabited before the Portugese and Italians got there with their slaves from Senegal.

@Shaolin913 with all due respect, but Tavares is not black nor Spanish, they are Cape Verdeians as I am too. They are from New Bedford Massachusetts. I know their family..for those who are not familiar with this nationality....it is a blend of many, but the language, and it's origin is Portuguese, so are the traditions...at home we speak a slang version of the Portuguese which is called creolou....not to be confused with the french creole language. I believe personally that music has no color.
