what a beautiful girl, I lost my beautiful Hope in december and I feel that she was taken from me aswell. She was turned out in a field with the herd of mares and I believe she was kicked, resulting in her leg breaking. It was devastating and we had to put her to sleep. wow. that vet shouldn't be a vet. giving a horse medication whithout the owners permission is one thing, but giving not paying attention to how much the gave a pregnant mare, with or without the owners permission, is, or atleast should be, illegal.

What a sad story, it's awful to lose a special horse so suddenly, it's happened to a lot of us and it's always hard. Colic is one of the things horse owners fear the most.

Don't take this the wrong way but with all the negative comments about the vet I'm feeling the need to defend him. ANY horse can have a bad reaction to ANY injection - including routine flu jabs. It's nobody's fault, it's just unlucky. Giving a sedative isn't "incompetent" and it doesn't mean the vet did something wrong.

@joosiej85 actually they're saying this because of the fact that he DIDN'T ask us to give her a sedative. If he had asked we would've said no because she's had preg tests done on her before without any trouble. So it IS the vet's fault for not having permission to give the drug to my horse.

@InuYashaLuva2592 But she didn't have a bad reaction to the sedative because the vet didn't have permission (and yes I agree that this was unacceptable), that was not his fault, as I said in my comment a horse can also get colic from a routine flu injection. I'm sorry, I don't want to sound insensitive. But vets have such a difficult job to do, and by and large they do it very well, yet if something goes wrong they always seem to get the blame. Medical treatment of any kind is never 100% safe.

@joosiej85 Ok I don't know who you are, but this is the mother of the girl that lost her show horse. The Vet was wrong in what he did. He was running late for his next appt. and hurried to get my horses done. He didn't even check her vitals before he left. So I feel that he was in the wrong for what he did. He gave her to much of the sedative for her body weight. He couldn't even tell me how much he gave her. I feel that a Vet should talk to you about what they are going to do first, NOTJUSTDOIT

This was my best friend when I was little and thanks to a vet's own decision to go ahead and give her a sedative I lost her and she lost her life. We had EVERY right to sue him but we didn't because we knew it wouldn't bring her back to us and we weren't just gonna do it for the money.

To me it sounds like YOU don't know the full story.

We had a vet(a different one) come out and he did what he could but she still ended up leaving us. We didn't blame the vet. So you saying that when something bad happens to the animal the first thing to do is blame the vet is pretty judgmental yourself. When we know that the vet was in the wrong to do something to our beloved animals, then of course we're going to blame the vet.

I know how you feel I almost lost my horse, Sierra, last Winter becuase she was sick with StringHalt. One day we drove up to see her at the barn and she was laying down and wouldnt get up. In 2007 "my" horse had to be put to sleep. (she was my father's horse but I cared for her as if she was mine) She had a colic and we stayed with her for almost 24 hours, we walked her around but at some point she gave up ): We had her for about 20 years so I can't remember a time without her. I miss her so much<3

Vets are so horrible...something similar happened to my moms old horse when she was my age. Her horse was preg and the foal wouldnt come out, and the vet didnt tell her that her horse had been on its side too long.

Seriously some vets dont deserve the job. I hope someday I can be a vet, one that will tell people..i would study everything and never do something so stupid. Im so sorry about your horse :(

First off; i'm sorry for making you cry and second; don't worry about the babbling, i do it alot too =] I don't think the vet really knew what he was doing at the time. Ladybug was the last horse to get a shot that day and he just wanted to hurry up and finish and Ladybug paid the price for that. Yeah, you can't believe how much i wanted to sew, but my mom told me that it wouldn't bring her back, so we didn't. And congrats for getting a new horse. Have fun and thanks :)

Yeah he was a qualified vet, we had him for a little over a year and loved him until he did that. And, yes she was a beautiful horse, even if she was just a normal bay. In my eyes, she was gorgeous.

I am ever so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel as we lost two last year. We had one for two years and she had a disasterous reponse to medication for her epilptic fits. And 24days after my old mare i had had for 5years, i had to have put down as she was morning the other one and her old anicent bones could hold all five serious illnesses at bay no longer. After her death, we stopped using him and most of our friends did too. But what's funny is that the 'on call' guy got fired instead of the vet that gave her the shot. He got fired because he gave us a perscription drug for her without seeing Ladybug.

She had him for 2 years, he loved her to death. When they went on a 2 day vacation, he started to colic. We could not get in toutch with them. I remember my trainer and the barn owner telling me it wasn't good, then, litteraly holding him up while they wraped his legs, loaded him up trailer for surgery.When they got to the clinic, they finally talked to her and found that they could not save him.
