the real story.

kratos was really a history teacher named jim anderson. one night he thought he heard a burgaler so he went down stairs with his shotgun. his wife and child came down to see what was wrong and he killed them both by accident. he went mad with grief and was sent to a mad house. he withdrew completly into a made up world in his head in the shape of ancient greece. god of war 1,2 qnd three are his delusions and the third is him coming to terms with what he did and woke. the end.

How did we go from one of the best bits of writing in the game to this? Even with how good a character Pandora is, this feels like they swapped writers for the last few minutes of the game. Kratos does NOT deserve redemption, or hope. At least he realizes the former.

Honestly, much the same, but cutting out the ridiculous parts about redemption. Kratos' realizing what a monster he'd become and taking his own life in a small attempt to FIX the damage he'd caused was great, and a beautiful shot at making the character into something more than a monstrous villain. But the build-up to that was just poorly written. Cut the magical redemption angle: let Kratos' small act of self-sacrifice stand on its own, and it is greater for it.

That's not "pathetic" so much as 'Vaguely human'. Kratos in GoW 3 is really nothing more than a psyopathic lunatic man-child hell bent on petty vengeance with the entire world's destruction as a consequence. He's a monster so horrible that you'd be hard pressed to find worse VILLAINS in fiction.

The only respite we get from that is the little bit with Pandora, and it took most of the world destroyed and a father's dying plea to get him there.
