in a few years, a decade at worst, there will be fully functional and maybe better-than-the-original mecha-arms for those who need them, and have the money for it, of course. in another decade they may well be as common as wheelchairs, for reasonable price.
Hi people, all jokes aside, interested primarily in the shoulders only. Can this be applied to a shoulder only instead if a prosthetic replacement which has a maximum lift of 5Kgs. Can the shoulder be applied especially if the arms and everything else is pefectly healthy but the shoulder joint and cartlidge are badly worn out due to trauma and attempted repair work through bodybuilding.
@nashertheatheist you could be right, but the surgeon behind this talked to me friday and from what i see happening this could actually be better AND more common in the next 10
Anybody else notice how the index finger seems to naturally fall into a "trigger finger" position? This project is funded by DARPA, which probably wants to translate this technology into something that can be used to put wounded soldiers back on the front lines. Don;t get me wrong, this is very cool, but the military-industrial complex is no doubt banking on a way to turn this into some kind of weapon.
Man, apparently this guy even has limited sensory input. Which is, like, crazy. If you just type his name into google it'll come up with all the articles--I'd recommend it. It's pretty freaking badass.
god why must idiots like you come in and overcast events like this with stupid comments and remarkx what if it was you that lost a limb from say JERKING OF TO MUCH because you seem to be very inclined on the subject you would want such a limb to keep spanking your monkey gamiseta malaki
I expect to see people with bionic limbs playing hungarian rhapsodies or performing sleight of hand is in the not too distant future. Another great thing is that soon, with converging fields of materials nanotechnology, tissue engineering and bionics, replacement limbs could be not just indiscernible from the real thing, but superior in function and structure too :)
Cool, now he can play Deus Ex HR.

Very nice... 20 years tops, I'd say, before replacement limbs become commonplace for amputees.

I agree, but I think that bio engineering is more likely to work better than mechanical stuff.
