Not often, but every now and then just the right things come together to form the perfect musical "pearl". This song is one of them. Check out Randy Newman's song "Baltimore", it's another one. "Medicine Jar" is as relevant today as the day it was written. It's a tragedy, McCulloch would have made "the list", Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray, etc. In his short life, he made my list. Thanks for this "pearl" Colin and Jimmy. Jimmy may you R.I.P.
JImmy McCullough wrote this as an anti drug song and he was a great band member but sadly he died at age 26 only 6 years later than he began playing for Wings of a drug overdose.
@QueenBeatlesWings Jimmy didn't write the lyrics to Medicine Jar or Wino Junko. Colin Allen did & Jimmy then put the words to music. Medicine Jar was inspired by Jeanette Jacobs of The Cake.
@iskanderr no, on every Wings album pretty much there's a song by at least one other band member (especially Denny Laine) who co-wrote with Paul M. alot Jimmy McCulloch wrote 2 Wings songs with Wings member Colin Allen
I Once Read That As Soon As Paul Hear This Song He Liked It Sraitaway (U Can See It On Pauls Face In This Footage, He Smiles At Jimmy, Pauls Loving It And Linda Too, (Best Song Jimmy Ever Done, Guitar Sounds Great) Ill Never Get Tired Of This Song (CLASSIC)
Where do you see Paul smiling at Jimmy n this footage? they don't show Paul once in it at all, the entire time the camera is on Jimmy except for a few seconds of showing the drummer near the end. But they never show Paul, or Linda during this song.
hi just got ur message, i typed my comment before the song finished, but i have the very same concert at home and Paul does smile at Jimmy, but this footage i replyed 2 is shoot by a differant camara and yes it does'nt leave Jimmy, so im sorry about that, but ive also read in a number of McCartney books and he says he liked the song strait away and the footage ive got he does keep smiling at Jimmy (same concert, Seatle Dome 1976 u can buy it on dvd its called Rockshow)
the footage you speak of is a mix of different concerts that were filmed. This King Dome footage is shot on video and the real deal. The film Rockshow is an edited film from various locations. I also have the film
That is what makes this all a tragedy. Doesn't get proper credit for his talent. Those who know agree. Sadly, I wish he kept his hand out of the medicine jar myself.
Jimmy was the main reason I picked up the guitar in the first place. After seeing the "Wings Over America" tour on TV in the 70's, I was hooked. Such a tasty, raw, and melodic player. He made a Gibson SG sound like it should.
what a tour!! Saw Wings 1976 with a buddy, 16 at the time and his date she was a 32 yr old English teacher..we drank wine out of a sack and smoked weed..what a wonderful time it was in May of 76. Jordan where are you now??
I think being stabbed by a nut case contributed to the early death of George too. Smoking is bad but really your genes are what determines when you die under normal conditions. We all go one day. I smoke and I drink and when I die, I won't complain or wish I had done anything differently. That's life.....and that's death too.
Yeah, I put this on my favorites, and although the Beatles are my favorite band, this is my absolute favorite Wings song ever. Jim rocks. I love Medicine Jar!
GOD BLESS YOU WE MISS AND LOVE YOU !

To be honest I would've guessed that Jimmy was on heroin from the looks of his eyes, even if it hadn't said on-line he croaked from the junk.
