It's 7.7fps with 8xAA BATTERIES. 7.5fps with the nikon EN-EL3e. 8fps with the nikon EN-EL4+ battery chamber. Not worth spending $250 just to get the extra 0.3fps. Silly Nikon! Great video though thanks

@TIRanald due to its potentially slow af-s system and low aperature, you have to watch out for the af speed. This lens is awesome but you have to learn to predict motion to help your slow af. Also, you are limiting yourself to only outdoor photography as you would have to push your iso past 1600 to get usable shutter speeds. So if you need to shoot indoors and are shooting for profit, you may need to look elsewhere. Its an awesome piece of learning glass though. Good luck!
@TIRanald you should think about off brand lenses aswell , the sigma 70-300 is good choice, allthough obvioulsy if you have the budget its better to use nikon/canon lenses
To me i'm not into sports photography , i'm more into landscape . but it deepens on individual taste . but i just have photography as a hobby ,but, not for a living .
I think it would make more sense if i invest in a good lens. I would like to upgrade my camera body sometimes later in a few years time and i feel investing in a full frame would be good. I am going to get a Tammy 90mm 2.8 not only for mocro stuff but coz it will be good for portraits aswell...I am interested in portraiture and would like to gradually learn the art gradually. Are yo on facebook could you plz send me a link for your fb profile.? thanks a lot..
Excellent review my friend... I got a D90 like 6 months back with an additional 50mm f1.8 . I do not have big budget but would like to gradually invest. I was thinking to upgrade the D90 body to D7000 that way I can get all the new features like the Q mode, Mirror lock up mode, magnesium alloy body and a higher fps....however i checked out in few of the shops around and found that I have to pay almost half the price of what I actually paid for the new kit....
with such a good camera you should really upgrade your lenses. Start piecing together the nikkor trinity 12-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 VRII. I would recommend the 70-200 VRII first because it is a really versatile lens (especially with VR)
Love the vids and your equipment! Very similar to mine! I am upgrading to the D300s this January, making my D90 a second/back-up camera and can't I wait. I re-watch your video just hear that beautiful 8fps! :D As far as glass goes, I have a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, a 70-200 f/2.8 and the nifty 50 f/1.8. Interestingly enough I put that Tamron 90 f/2.8 1:1 macro on my D90 when dreaming at the camera store. I FELL IN LOVE! Can't wait to do an update vid in Jan. on my equipment!
I agree, the feeling of the D300s is so solid and tight. It's something that's hard to measure and explain (and justify spending more money on) but is important in a device that is potentially carried all around the world and/or used all day long. It makes my D40, which I loved, feel like a kids toy.

Is the 70-300mm Nikkor f4.5-5.6 VR lens good for sports and wildlife photography? Thanks

Hey, I own a D300 and have a few questions,
Firstly the battery grip, do you have and problems with it coming loose when you use larger lenses?
Also the Tamrom 17-50, how good is it for sport photography I am mostly doing skateboard and biking and skimboarding, how does it hold up?

an old D2X may have been a better choice than a D300s.

I use a D200 and a D90, I LOVE my D200! Some say that it's not as good because the high ISO isb't as good, but with an SB-400 or 600, it's awesome!
