Yeah thats supression fire. They weren't really returning fire on the sniper. If they planned on engaging they wouldn't have kept rolling. Unless that guy was standing in the middle of the road they knew they weren't getting him. They were just pinning him down so they could roll through. Watch again closely, and you will see his barrel is at an elevated level, meaning he was shooting UP most likely at the rooftops where they like to ambush and hide. Standard procedure is to open up in the direction you think the sniper(s) shot at you from in order to suppress him/them. That way they don't get a "second chance". If you were a sniper, it's one shot and then - hit or miss - you move to another position. Since these insurgents weren't properly trained it's a good bet they're still in the same spot trying for a second shot (or more) This isn't a video game.

I could understand that if he returned fire in the direction of the attack but he didn't. He just starting pulling the trigger regardless of what he aimed at. Had he pointed ihis weapon in at least the general direction of the shot I'd agree with you.
He is being more of a danger to civilians and bystanders than he is any combatant.

Most rifles cannot penetrate Humvee windows with just one round. The glass is 5 or 6 layers thick. Usually it only penetrates 1 or 2 layers.

Standard procedure is to open up in the direction you think the sniper(s) shot at you from in order to suppress him/them. That way they don't get a "second chance". If you were a sniper, it's one shot and then - hit or miss - you move to another position. Since these insurgents weren't properly trained it's a good bet they're still in the same spot trying for a second shot (or more) This isn't a video game.

@PrepSurvivor It's covering fire, if you were the sniper who shot at this guy and you heard gunfire that's not coming from any of your allies you would take cover to avoid being shot, hence stopping the sniper from unloading anymore rounds into the glass

I could understand that if he returned fire in the direction of the attack but he didn't. He just starting pulling the trigger regardless of what he aimed at. Had he pointed ihis weapon in at least the general direction of the shot I'd agree with you.
He is being more of a danger to civilians and bystanders than he is any combatant.
If i was the sniper that wouldn't make me put my head down, i would keep shooting, they obviously have absolutely no clue where he was.
