I heard that Rare had to submit a videotape to Nintendo of a tester's playthrough just to show the game was actually beatable.

I never got past the hoverbike stage. The first stage, that was fine (I love how the boss battle is viewed from the boss' POV). Even the descending stage where you're swinging on ropes was manageable. That hoverbike level, however, was just a damned endurance test. The Gameboy version wasn't any better.

Ugh!~ - this music is meant for an nes game but it is so ridulously(?) memorable and rocks!! Sure new games are more advanced in their usage of instruments but really; who gives a fuck. This stuff makes up a piece of a games identitfy, which means it relies more on writing a good song rather than extravogent orchestras or whatever. It is this stuff that I remember more fondly than anything else.

I vote for Battletoads as the most difficult game ever. Ghosts n Goblins and Super Ghouls n Ghosts are a walk in the park compared to this. I mean... all the hilarious speed passages. My brother has beaten this game, but it seems I never will. I will probably have to play it four days in a row beforeI do. And by then, I will probably already be crazy. Rare/Tradewest made great, difficult games.

That comment made me laugh so hard, in all honesty though, this game could be made even harder, aside from the obvious, 1 life, everything kills you, no continues, they could also shove in a hellish shooter stage, take away the color coding on level 3, make the end boss harder, maybe put in some cheap suprise traps, but those are 1 trick ponies, you won't get much milage out of those, oh and they could make you pay the 2 player mode to get the ending, and not tell you until you beat it solo.

mother of GOD... this game is the hardest game EVER made. i had it when i was 5 YEARS OLD. I still remember when my parents got it for me 15 years or so ago. I got it for my birthday. Back then these things were like 50 bucks a pop. I COULD NEVER GET PASSED level 3, that fucking tunnel was IMPOSSIBLE. hahahaha, wow this is amaaaazing. UR THE BEST FOR POSTING ALL THESE !!!!
