We must have a citizen lobby of Congress to overturn, by legislation, the U.S. Supreme Ct.'s decision that, since corporations are "persons" in the law, their "right to freedom of speech" allows them to support these greedy politicians. One definition of Facism (and there are many) is the condition where ruling gov't and corporations are one. What do we have here? Why are we, as citizens, staying quiet about this? Is it too late? Have the greedy and unscrupulous won their prize?
Discrimination is the unlawful and intentional act of unfair treatment of a person based on age, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability. It is illegal in the U.S. That is, unless you are young, and we're talking about Medicare. Then discrimination is an American appeal to capitalism. End the discrimination. Give Medicare to all.
A solid Public option will serve to check these FOR-PROFIT insurance companies. Otherwise, the insurance companies will negotiate the rates between themselves and comp up with what serves them best and make them the most profit, regardless of whether interstate competition is allowed or not.
What is going to stop the insurance companies from cutting deals behind closed doors on rates, premiums etc? They will settle for a deal that profits all companies.
kieth who's company stands to make millions on health care reform? GE!!! oh wait don't they own MSNBC who you work for? yeah!!! shut your mouth you corporate fucking schill who prays on stupid people.
Whoever elses podium you use for relaying your message is not as important as the message you relay. If you look deep enough, plurality is found in many aspects of life.
Countess16, you make NO sense. You say "freedom of choice", yet would rather a SINGLE PAYER system (when there is only 1 there is nothing else to choose from) but will settle on a public option (which is designed to phase out private insurance).
If you want freedom of choice then why not call for the ban of interstate competition barriers and state insurance monopolies?
I'll tell you why. Because you want momma and daddy (the Government) to take care of you and control your life.
No...actually, I want SINGLE PAYER HEALTH INSURANCE because I believe that EVERY CITIZEN of this GREAT COUNTRY should have that RIGHT! Unfortunately for me, SP is not even a consideration on the table at present, SO...I am FOR a STRONG PUBLIC OPTION - which should appease those who believe that SP would take away their "right to choose!" WIN-WIN!
As a UK citizen my 28 year old brother recently needed an operation to have his gall bladder removed. My mother needed a heart bypass op. Both were paid for by he government as you say. There was no bureaucrat in the middle. My mother didn't have to scramble for her insurance papers to see if she was properly covered. When the GOP ran their election campaign under the banners "Country First", I really thought that meant putting their fellow countrymen first. What's wrong with insurance for all?
Plus, it's not about the govt controlling your life. It's about my taxpayer pounds providing coverage when I (or others) need it. I am also sick of people calling our healthcare system "socialized" like we're in the former USSR. Sure, our system has it's flaws but you live in America! You're supposed to take an idea and perfect it. Come over (Dems and Repubs), studying our system and then improve upon it for ALL of your countrymen.
AND, just FYI...I was laid off, had a heart attack AFTER the COBRA ran out, left me BROKE (lost everything) and I'm still paying it off..currently self-employed and can't afford health insurance...I want a STRONG PUBLIC OPTION! Stay Healthy and hope that you and yours are currently covered..."momma and daddy DO NOT TAKE CARE OF ME!"
All this while the polls show Americans do not support the current proposed health plan. All this while that certain corporation which owns MSNBC and writes Obermann his fat checks has their CEO serving has an economic adviser to the White House and stand to win big off of this take over of healthcare and cap & trade legislation.
Obermann is pimped out, lying, elitist, mouthpiece of big government and special interest.
Yes everyone wants health care reform. But not everyone wants government controlled health care, personally I like the "evil monsters" Blue Dogs plans.
Heavy government regulation of private companies rather than a take over might be the best of the many "evils"
Military spending for the US as % of GDP is around 4.06% (2005), whereas the Canadian cost as % of GDP is 1.1% (2005). It's a matter of priorities. As far as I know US healthcare costs, as a % of GDP, is nearly the highest in Western society, yet it is the one of the most privatized--with little to no greater care provided than any other industrialized nations.
I agree that the insurance companies will remain to some extent, but neither quality nor quantity will necessarily suffer if they disappear altogether. And healthcare in Canada isn't free, so much as it is negligible in cost for individual consumers; this because collectively, through taxation, everyong pitching in lowers the cost-per-person below what insurance companies can offer.

Wow! Spot On ..Spot On! The Health Care Lobby, Pharma, and Insurance has had 60 years to get into the pockets of politicians. It pains me to see the stupid protesters yelling down those in town meetings. They are sponsored and organized by the big three!
Wow! What a closing salvo from Keith! My goodness it was so great to hear someone on such a national stage talk this way! Yes, many others have said the same things, but they don't have Keith's far & wide reach. Hear hear & kudos for Keith Olbermann! I so agree with this Special Comment. He said what I've expressed many times myself. All these treacherous self-serving motherfuckers in Congress have to go! They're clearly in it FOR THEMSELVES, not for you & me! They serve their corporate masters.
Is it me or did he just suggest that instead of having government of/by/and for the Corporation we should have a government of/by/and for the Government?
Because if this video is in support of the Obama Health Care Plan we're all screwed. We can change the current health care crisis but having socialized health care WON'T work. just watch PJTV with Crowder's investigating Canada's Health Care to see why, Ron Paul is right in this issue: give it to the Market, it worked b4 the current mess....
What you talkin' 'bout, fool? I take it by your confident pronouncement in favour of market fundamentalism that you are: poor; sick or handicapped; attended a hopeless, run-down school; and have no social support network or family ties to fall back on for support. Unless this IS the case, you've got a f!@kin' nerve to be suggesting that we continue to 'let the market rip!' in these days of the GFC. I mean, I hope you're not healthy and well off, 'cause, if you are you're just a stupid hypocrite.
Umm.. did you even read what I stated. I'm not saying to let the current crisis stay the same, we do not have a market-run health care system. It was handed over to the Corporations/Pharmaceutical companies during the Clinton Admin. and continued to be handed over in the Bush Administration. Government has had it's hand in the Health Care industry all along, we need to take the gov. out of it to fix the problem, not add more gov. Have you even tried researching the issue..?
furthermore, I work pretty damn hard in order to pay for a PPO so I don't have to depend on others to provide for me....I'd love to see the price go down, but by the government can't fix the problem, how is that going to help things, by restoring a Free-Market system to what it was before Clinton and Bush got their hands in it, it will become more affordable and possible for many others to get health care, ask yourself why do some Canadians choose to come to the U.S. for major procedures???
Firstly, I'm not sure what you mean by saying that it's been 'Corporation/Pharmaceutical' run instead of 'Market'...and I'm pretty sure you don't either. The "market" is not some benevolent spirit that is distinct from corporations and other powerful influence. What the hell is is your point? Secondly, you'll find that Canadians (and others) often come to the US a) because you have the best doctors, and b) because they have the money to do it. Why the hell do you think they come Mr. G.O.P Richy?
What do you mean 'corporations are monopolized'? Are to talking internally? Or that they 'create' a monopoly 'in' the market thereby distorting the price mechanism. I don't follow you're (lack of?) logic. I certainly don't think you're dealing with the main issue either. If you're honestly saying that people would be healthier in a pure market not warped by government intervention of any kind you are either completely ignorant of both the past and the present, or completely callous and cruel.
When banks buy each other out you are basically consolidating the competition. Then you streamline the new company by removing worthless assest. ie workers. therefore no competition and you win at monopoly. The government is no different when they subsidize a market that the people would not use. They monopolize against other companies and under cut competition forcing them out of business.
I'm telling as it is. Im not the cruel one. government should stay out of business and let them compete.
Buddy, everything you've just said there would be fine if we were talking about Ferrari dealerships or Poodle-grooming companies. Do you thing that Ferrari's and Poodle-grooming is equivalent to healthcare? I'm not anti competition or capitalism. The facts show however, that when it comes to issues of the public good the underprivileged will 'never' win in an 'unregulated' open market. Do I care if a poor person can't get their poodle shampooed? Maybe a bit :).I care greatly if they die in pain.
im for anti-monopoly regulation. The fact is that hundreds of hospitals have closed due to regulations in laws that have increase cost and red tape taking away choice from the people to choose how your healthcare is provided and by whom. They die in pain waiting, and misdiagnosis and bad pharmacy, im sad to say. The poor still get attended too in a free market the burden is spread. but in a monopoly one company cuts corners to make profits.
You're posts keep on jumping back and forth from comments that are fine (EVERYONE except the corporate mafias are against monopolies) to conclusions and prescriptions for action that do not logically follow. Private insurance will live under Obama. "The poor still get attended to in a free market the burden is spread". You...can't...be...serious! Honestly, go give all your money away, get sick, disregard any social support or education you have - then let's see what you think of the free market.
actually private insurance will be phased out on obamas plan. apparently you havent lived over 40 years how things were done. before government started running i mean ruining lives. but to point out corporations own the government now. A political facism. And if your not part of the corporation your screwed. You know what would be great health care is preventive health care. hell of a lot cheaper and makes jobs. end result healthier people = less medical burdens.
There are people who would like to do away with private insurance. Obama will just help keep them honest and provide a safety net. Your comment about things over the past 40 years having been some sort of utopia before government got involved is perfect evidence that you don't know what you're talking about. Did you know that tax revenues actually went up during Regans' Presidency? Did you know that the private health insurers are hugely subsidised by public funds? You're only concerned with you
do you know most of this administration is from all the administrations since carter. obama is just as corrupt fyi. Taxes are going to go up on everything and did you know that before these insurance companys got inbetween patient and doctor. that health care was affordable and there was choice of alternative medicines and doctors. that doctors did give out free services as tax deductions. I have a right to be concerned with myself. I cant get off this boat that everyone is trying to sink.
You're showing an uncanny ability to keep avoiding the issues pal. It's fun to kick around ignorant GOP stooges for a while, but even they have to start showing some degree of argument before it just gets boring. You're a bore. Still haven't said anything accurate about history, still haven't said what the poor are supposed to do, and, you just said that healthcare was affordable BEFORE the insurers got involved! There you go again - jumping back and forth. Stay healthy! bye.
not my fault you cannot keep up. What does someone from australia know about medical history in the states.? whens the last time that 5 stiches costed you out of pocket 35 bucks. And yes that was my cost without insurance back then. Now days same stiches cost 500. Insurance companys are scams. they dont provide care. Only make money by keeping it from you. Government insurance just means they will be doing the same thing. Its a scam. and buearucratic bs. like social security.
Ahhh...now we're getting somewhere. Firstly, just 'cause I'm 'in' Australia doesn't mean that I'm 'from' Australia. I like to keep that information to myself so that I can laugh at rednecks who think that were you live has something to do with how knowlegeable you are about a subject. You sound pretty old, but you are aware that you're talking to me on the 'internet' aren't you? You have heard of 'planes'? Secondly, I didn't realise you were against 'all' insurance. Please explain what you...
...would do. Healthcare has become more expensive for a number of reasons, including knowledge and lifestyle. Preventive measures are definitely needed to prevent some illnesses. The Republicans have a poor history of supporting these programmes as they feel it would limit peoples 'freedom', ha! That's right, some Americans should be free to die from ignorance and poor lifestyle choices and rubbush food (even school kids), others should be free to continue making profits of the misery of others.
Problem with your statistics is that the only way our system could be shaped into the canadian way. Is to remove the insurance middle men and that will never happen. Thats what drives our cost up for quality. However when its free.Usually quality suffers for quantity.
he's right. half of the blue dog caucus disappeared on november 2nd.

Kennedy? Is he going to come back and haunt the blue dog or throw them in the trunk of his ghost car?

@polljc According to Carter, Kennedy was the primary force that killed health care reform in the 70's.

G.O.P Richy?

markets are competitive. corporations are monopolized thats the difference. In a monopoly , markets dont exist.
Squirelbutt 2 years ago

Honestly, go give all your money away, get sick, disregard any social support or education you have - then let's see what you think of the free market.
wasdom01 2 years ago
actually private insurance will be phased out on obamas plan. apparently you havent lived over 40 years how things were done. before government started running i mean ruining lives. but to point out corporations own the government now.

You're only concerned with you
wasdom01 2 years ago
do you know most of this administration is from all the administrations since carter. obama is just as corrupt fyi.

Squirelbutt 2 years ago

Canadian health care as a % of GDP was 9.x% in 2007, whereas in the US it was 16.9%. If it is shaped after the Canadian system, less will be paid.

Do canadians have to deal with insurance companys?
Squirelbutt 2 years ago
No, Canadians don't have to deal with insurance companys unless they decide to do so, as in the case of "extended" health care like dental.
Ezer101 2 years ago
Problem with your statistics is that the only way our system could be shaped into the canadian way. Is to remove the insurance middle men and that will never happen. Thats what drives our cost up for quality. However when its free.Usually quality suffers for quantity.
