"Makes a person think" ? why? you mean think what you where brought up to think. People die basiclly every second of the day. It is not hard to face the fact that, there are no magical places for the 30 billion+ "souls" to go to.
I did almost die or get badly injured once, and god never crossed my mind, and the strange thing is I was still a christian then.
At the moment my biggest fear about dying is that my family would go against my funeral arrangements, as I do not want to have a christian funeral or be buried in a grave. (if they want to go a church on their own so be it, but I never want to set foot in a church again dead or alive) A simple valediction.
Apostasy completed and bequeath my body to science.
I'm sure you must have got burnt or greatly disappointed by someone who claimed to be a Christian, but never personally knew Christ. Yet, you obviously never knew Him personally either. For if you did, you wouldn't quit your relationship with Him, just because some hypocrite "claimed" to be his follower. God answered me very clearly on specific problems I've had in my life many times. I KNOW that I KNOW that He is real - I'm just often too "lazy" to develop my relationship with Him further.
I KNOW that after the evening when I finally surrendered my life God, everything inside of me changed. The very next morning I woke up with a strong desire to throw away all the things to which I used to be addicted - things that I couldn't part with for many years. Then all of a sudden, just like that, I cared absolutely nothing for them. But above all, I had this total peace about everything- including all the problems that puzzled and frustrated me before. My outlook on life was transformed.
It does seem like you had issues, just like all of us, so making a clean slate and off loading the baggage will of course be rewarding. One's conscience is very powerful and sometimes we say and act in a manner that we just cannot forgive ourselves for. Being forgiven is a powerful action (even emotion), and finding peace should be allowed for all. So you have found peace and forgiveness in God, I don't want to undermine the tranquility that you have. Some find tranquility in star-gazing, family
its either you go to Heaven or to Hell. if you have accepted Jesus Christ in your life and follow his commands, you'll go to heaven. but if not, you'll spend your eternity to hell. a lake of fire and you can always feel the heat.
no punches pulled here.quickly to the point. well done. Check out "the purpose driven" life by Rick Warren for the answer to the other big question "why am I here?"

Genesis 3:15 says there are 2 seeds. You are either His, or you are not.

Don't use your cell phone when driving a car.
Look both ways before crossing the street.
Any six year old knows that.
