  • thanks man brilliant :)

  • Thanks hook guy, just what I looking for...

  • fuck I was listening to song 2 when that started and I got scared for a moment DD:

  • Can't touch this!

  • Hooks, fabulous video, this clarified so much for me. Thank you. PS: Using the simple songs really drives these lessons home. I remember hearing "Can't get no..." on AM radio when it first came out - perfect choice for this lesson.

  • so if i were to say , "blood is dripping from your head, when i shoot you now ur dead, i will stab you with a knife its ohkay its just one life."

  • I`m calling the word. "HEY"!!!

  • Really well organized and presented.

  • I just listen to this video sometimes because of his awesome accent.

  • uhh where is the copyright?

  • i cant think of many classical pieces that have 'hooks' unless you count melodies that are much longer than the examples you gave

these are great videos though, thanks!

  • @roas2 While that is true, some of the most famous classical pieces have one or 2 extremely memorable melodies, such as Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, or Beethoven's 5th Symphony

  • can someone answer this question please is a hook like a chorus

  • @REX05011 From what I understand it can or can not be. It is a piece of music that literally hooks you, like the one he showed form the cardingans, it's in the begginning of the song. I guess most of the time it is the chorus though.

  • @sirgerry Literally, huh? That must hurt.

  • @burpo That's the power of music ;)

  • @REX05011 yes a hook is the chorus, the most catchy part of the song

  • You started putting me into a trance with the hook examples.

  • You know what comes to mind? Newsboys "Born Again" and their tarzan like call in that song! lol... but a great song!

  • @esteban3527343 you don't need to listen to this man's song just to analyze!! all you need to do is study big hits because a song is a song. you just have to make it worth listening to.

  • i'm now part of a band....and we can make chords in the structure of a song in about ten minutes and just play it......

none of us can do the lyrics though............ :S

how important is a hook in a song....?

  • @xcjxmx crucial -.- i mean okay listen to songs on the radio, they alll r sooo repetative.. i meanhow many songs do u know that r like a continous chourus? lol soooo many especially pop culture songs. think of it like poetry.. lol its hard.. i find i write better under pressure. l make a due date

oh and think of a topic, like i mean, breack ups, love, what ever.

ps, if ur really stuck i lovvvv to rhyme.. give me something to work with an i can make it rhyme

wat kind of music do u play?

  • @blackdawn88655 thanks for your reply....

sort of a 'mumford and sons' , 'tallest man on earth' thing....

  • @xcjxmx huh cool. dont know if that kinda music is exactly up my alley but hey musics musics ^ ^ as long as its good. lol good luck with the group :)

  • Love it, I'm a songwriter myself.

  • great song choices and good useful instructions

  • u cant cant touch this= shoetesr churos probley

  • This is a great video, man. I've always thought of using hooks as selling out, but after medidating on all the great songs (Nirvana pops into my head) that use a subtle hook, that's so fucking untrue. Still, important not to hang on them, but no guilt to use a few every now and then, lol.

  • that cardigans riff was....dull

but I'd love to hear some of your own songs

  • I personally dont like a lot of System of a Down, but I find their use of hooks to be remarkable. They sell you a hook, but hidden deep within it and the rest of the song is usually a political or social message. Get em hooked, then get em thinking. Myself as an experimental musician, I think of hooks in the same way. Get em hooked but in a creative way. Then get them thinking.

  • mc terminator the rapper guy uses the word "T" as his hook all the time :D

  • You are the bestttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

I just got one of the best Hook now

    Thanks alot

  • Good explanation.

  • This is a VERY smart and helpful lesson. The examples were VERY helpful. And those are all very catchy. I actually couldn't help but sing along or play along to most of them.

  • Black Horse And The Cherry Tree is a classic "Woo hoo" song too!

  • the song at 4:20 is on grand turismo 2

  • the chourus in pertfect situation by weezer

  • ide say sweet child o' mine the guitar bit is a hook

  • All Time Low has alot of good hooks. That's what i try to make my hjooks sound like with a little bit more punk to it.

  • excellent video, 5 stars

  • cool

  • cool vid, great info, and cool accent:) I know, I know, we Americans are easily mused;>) Keep up the good work
