I used to see John Perform often in DC at Twins Lounge. Ihad moved to the Midwest and had no idea that he had passed for about a year after he had passed. I went online really looking for some of his music and found out. His touch on the piano was so impressive and his sensitivity that he approached playing in all bands was consummate. I really miss him what a treasured talent.
So sorry I missed hearing this in person. I just heard him on a CD with Frank Morgan, and traced him to this. Thanks so much for capturing and sharing...
First heard Hicks with Betty Carter. Very saddened to hear of his passing. He will live on through his music. God, could he play! Thanx for all you're doing to keep music known to people.
I am very confused and very touched to see again my friend john in this video...As a drummer i have been touring with john in Europe, and he tought me a lot about music ...just by playing ..what a beautifull human being ...and so his playing i miss him very very much...god bless him and more videos with john....
Wow. What a wonderful surprise. Great music and well produced video. Artists like John Hicks can never be replaced. I remember that documentary on PBS, Jazz. It was so average, while this video is so exciting. More, please, Bret aka JazzVideoGuy!
thanks Bret...John was always a good friend and inspiration to me.

What a great piece! Thanks, Bret. I was lucky to hear John Hicks in person on several occasions. A criminally underappreciated artist.
