Apparently, this was filmed and recorded by the Van Cliburn Foundation. For their poor audio and video quality and the absurd choice of angle from which they filmed the performance, they should be eliminated from the competition. A daring and excellent performance. Perhaps the upload doesn't do the audio recording justice. But isn't that their responsibility as well?
Naw, the added cadenza was corny as hell, especially that single high F#. It just didn't fit. He also clustered/dirtied up the last chord, which is the most important chord in any recital :)
He is the most impressive pianist in Cliburn Competition 2009. I cannot find any reason why he could not remain to the final stage..... But he can go to Tchaikovsky International or Munchen International Competition!
I was surprised he was eliminated, too. This was his second Cliburn and he played beautifully in both. But he seems to be concertizing already anyway, so like others who don't win, he'll do well in spite of being eliminated. BTW, there are vids of his performances of the Barber Sonata (Fugue) and the Hammerklavier (also the Fugue) here on YouTube.
Can't stand Liszt it's so fake.

How did anyone ever even conceive of that camera angle as permissible?

Hot diggity dog - give that man a cigar! Terrific performance. Very natural, clean and fluid.

This guy is a technical machine. He has good musical instincts, but just needs some seasoning. Giant talent on display here though!

I like the cadenza at the end. . .caught me by surprise. Definitely a better ending than the one written.
