  • The master of tip fluxion. Please observe closely. I won't even mention thumb wiggle.

  • hes has the most polished tone

  • Does anyone know if there is a Russell recording of Manjón's Leyenda and Aire Vasco anywhere on youtube or otherwise?

  • I found that David is one of the greatest player that got the oomph for beautiful Tone. More like Segovia in a way but in much more flexible way. This piece is great when played by him

  • I like both Russell's and Morel's version. Russell's has a polished vibe in a Villa-Lobos Choro No. 1 way, and Morel has it in a throatier and raspier way. I think if they were playing identical guitars the feeling from the music would be closer.

  • I don't see why people are arguing who's interpretation is better. The beautiful thing about music is that it can be performed many different ways and, most of the time, they are all viable performances. Who cares which is better? Just sit back and enjoy a beautiful performance.

  • Maestrísimo!

  • Bravooooo!

    Beto Furlan ( Brasil )

  • I would sell my soul to have that guitar...

  • This song makes me smirk. Really cool, wanna learn it, who is the composer?

  • @gamergeek3000 Jorge Morel

  • morel is so much more dancy. obviously. this is too polished for my taste. not very raw and dusty and rio like

  • Why?

  • who's the composer of this piece?

  • @Diego060388 jorge morel

  • jorge morel is poor.

Russel version is much better.Good work!

  • @PANRafauWhite its jorge morels tune and he is the best in his own works

  • I appriciate that, but if u go to music school some years,u will know what I mean, and agree with me.

Fact he created this tune doesnt mean he is the best in it.The chess are the best analogy..

    Cheers!

  • @PANRafauWhite There is no best. Perhaps you appreciate David Russell's version more (I personally did) but that does not mean that it is better. Especially as Morel most likely played it as he intended it to be.

  • Jorge Morel

  • Jorge Morel

  • Grande guitarrista o melhor do mundo

    Fantastico

  • The technique, especially in his left hand, allows the musicality to shine through his playing. Compared to Jorge Morel he isc a much more talented a guitarist.

  • This guy's the best , your all jerks.

  • >This guy's the best , your all jerks

    >your all jerks

    > your all

    > your

  • You are all jerks, this guy's the best

  • He is a classical guitarist but this piece isn't really classical. It's rather a Barazil jazz or samba, but he is a great gutarist, so I think all the same it's very good

  • you get it man

  • Bravo!

  • This piece is far from be really a Brazilian dance; is more a remembrance and a version stylized of a bump. However, Russell it touches very well and is excellent as such.. for who will want to know like is really a Brazilian dance. ..tecla Rafael Rabello, Yamandú Coast or Landmark pear tree (or Paulo Bellinati).

    ^Freetranslation of this guy's post

  • The correct translation is this.

THis piece is far from being a Brazilian dance; it is more a remembrance and stylistic version of Bossa (musical style). However, Russell plays it really well and is excellent as such... for who wants to know what Brazilian dance is really suppose to sound like then search for Rafael Rabello, Yamandu Costa or Marco Pereira (or Paulo Bellinati).

  • Marco Pereira = Landmark Peartree.

    Awesome.

  • Fantastic :O

    This man ROCKS!!!

  • Si alguien tiene la paritura de esta pieza por favor aviseme para pasarle el email :)

  • He even stops the bass strings vibrating on the alternate bass! Ridiculously pedantic and nit-picky... This is dancing music, not an "intellectual" composition. It needs passion, spontaneity, intensity and drive.

  • Of course this has a jazzy feel! Latin and Samba both draw heavily on Jazz and Afro influences.

I can count many occasions where ii-V-i's are used, which are the building blocks of jazz.

And the frequent use of minor 9s, minor 6s, major 7s and half diminished!!

Russell's phrasing is just so plodding. 1.12... Where is the bagginess, the freedom!?

  • nice! but too "russell" i prefer it a bit faster and sloppy, when playing this piece is not about control is about moving your body.

  • aver traigan las garotiñas

    muy bien maestro

en toda musica se presta usted

    morel y russel felicitaciones

  • Superb !! 5*

  • "topmusiccritic"s should know more about music. Alow me...1st- David Russell IS a classical player. 2nd- It sounds like he's reading it because he did read it, probably twenty + years ago before he memorized it and played it 10,000 times. Please stick to pop!!!!!!!

  • This piece isn't jazz. I love this version.

  • this is not a jazz piece, so i don't get your point retard.

  • If you're looking for an uptight classical approach, you'll find it. The same also applies if you are looking for subtle nuances of shading in each of the voices. Yes, he plays all the notes and rhythms, but he puts his own artistic stamp on it, which is definitively David Russell. Also, anyone who is a self-acclaimed "top-anything" loses all credibility to me.

  • Russell plays how Russell plays, and its undeniably brilliant - clean, expressive, dynamic & rhythmic. What else do you want??? spaz

  • I grew up listening to Segovia, Willams, and Parkening. It was about a year ago when someone told me to listen to David Russell. WOW !!! What a Talent! Since then I've bought about 12 of his cd's. So much "Being and Beauty" in his playing.

I'm so grateful that I seen him in concert recently and got to speak to him for a moment.

He has surely inspired me to continue to play and do my best to get my guitar playing to the next level. Thank you David Russell!!!!!!!

  • Nice experience, thank you very much:-)

  • I watched this piece played by David in 1981. Ever since this Morel's piece has become very special one for me. Russell's performance is really vivid and exceiting. Thank you for posting.

  • Can the piece be ever played better than this? Five stars are not enough! Thank you!

  • Try Jason Vieaux'x recording.

    Its fantastic!!

  • It's better than this one!

  • One example when a performer outperforms the composer playing his piece. Compare with Morel himself on youtube. Thanks for posting.

  • @DonAnzalone

My friend told me Morel actually wrote these pieces for Russell because of his style of playing being optimal for it.

  • Just got educated on who David Russell is--Man... "He Good".

    --Van

  • beautiful,thanks for posting it..

  • Russell is the best guitarist alive.

  • who's the composer?

  • Jorge Morel
