Fear has weakened thy common sense. One of the biggest reasons the Taliban/al-Qaeda are active is because of the immense American presence in the Middle East. I don't think we should just drop everything and get out, but we should gradually scale back military ops and take on more of a peacekeeping role in addition to helping establish a working judicial system and educating people, especially in the rural areas.

Taliban/al-qaeda were active way before we established any presence in the middle east. Also our main objective over there is to train up there military and police and establish a working government. I was there as an infantryman and our goal was like i said to train their army/police, build schools etc. while maintaining security in the area. It's been like that for quite some time now.
