It's interesting that right after the "peace and love" idealism of the late 60's movie audiences were ready for disaster films. Think about it: right before the "turn over" scene, everyone is partying and dancing and having fun before "the new wave" puts an end to it and kills many people in fire and the "flood". Popular movies always reflect the current zeitgeist of the times... The Kennedy Camelot years were long gone, and the Nixon era was prevalent.

fyi mr tuxedo441, fixtures such as tables and chairs are all permanently attached on the floring to avoid unnecessary moves whle ship is in motion on the high seas. Check out construction of a modern ship.

@tuxedo441 On liners from that era, tables were bolted to the floor and chairs were secured with a small length of cord from the underside of the seat and hooked to the floor directly beneath them. Simply a matter of accuracy and attention to detail on the part of the filmmakers.
