This fight is going to have a definitive finish IMO. Both guys are saying they're coming in with plans to finish and I think that if Lyoto decides to be more offensive in this fight that it could go either way and one man will either fall and it'll be a much more active fight than the first.
Shogun is right, the judges should award more points to the person engaging and pressing forward. Obviously Machida is amazing, but he's mostly a counter-fighter. I'm not into that, and I doubt many people are. It's what Anderson Silva has turned into. But I guess, you have to win decisively to take the belt away from the Champ...which is why I don't get how Frankie Edgar won that decision?

Demian Maia and Thales Leites never threatened him at all and he decides to make a joke out of the fight when their fear to engage becomes apparent. Forrest Griffin fight is a good example. Forrest's striking is shitty, yet he was attempting to press and fight Anderson despite being knocked down twice and he got KOed for his attempts. Edgar winning the decision I think fell on BJ looking gassed for most of the fight.

Anyway if you go to Pride FC's website, it promotes Shogun's fight in the UFC.

Thing is Machida is the champion, and to be able to beat a champion you need to do either one of two things, 1. knock him out or submit him, and 2. If it goes for decision you should dominated all rounds and not with a close fight. Because judges will always respect the fact that Machida is the champion.

@Narutardpwner92 Exactly, which is why the UFC has allowed him recovery/training time until spring/early summer... that's still atleast 8 months away, enough time for Shogun to get back into shape and improve his takedown defense. And if you didn't notice during the 2nd Machida fight, Machida took him down twice and he got back up almost immediately.
Not to mention Rashad has a GLASS jaw. Almost got KO'd by Thiago Silva and if Silva's back wasn't f'd up he would've won period.

This fight is going to have a definitive finish IMO. Both guys are saying they're coming in with plans to finish and I think that if Lyoto decides to be more offensive in this fight that it could go either way and one man will either fall and it'll be a much more active fight than the first.

Shogun is right, the judges should award more points to the person engaging and pressing forward. Obviously Machida is amazing, but he's mostly a counter-fighter. I'm not into that, and I doubt many people are. It's what Anderson Silva has turned into. But I guess, you have to win decisively to take the belt away from the Champ...which is why I don't get how Frankie Edgar won that decision?

Demian Maia and Thales Leites never threatened him at all and he decides to make a joke out of the fight when their fear to engage becomes apparent. Forrest Griffin fight is a good example. Forrest's striking is shitty, yet he was attempting to press and fight Anderson despite being knocked down twice and he got KOed for his attempts. Edgar winning the decision I think fell on BJ looking gassed for most of the fight.

@draakmanz I only meant he was one of the top elite few. Shogun was never UFC champion. Shogun was Pride FC 2005 Middleweight Grandprix Champion. Hence his debute with top ranked fighter Forrest Griffin. (One fight later Griffin fought for the belt and won it). However, Pride and UFC are virtually the same organization. Anyway if you go to Pride FC's website, it promotes Shogun's fight in the UFC.

One thing ppl don't take into consideration is exactly one of the comments from Shogun. He fights forward, looking for action. Machida is always in a defensive stand, trying to look for holes, this makes his fights extremely boring (I watched ALL of them btw)... Judges should give more weight for fighters who are always attacking.
Leg kicks are just part of the game. It is like you tell a wrester his take downs don't count, because they are boring... GSP would have lost most of his fights!

From the way Machida's face looked after the fight I might be inclined to agree. Thing is Machida is the champion, and to be able to beat a champion you need to do either one of two things, 1. knock him out or submit him, and 2. If it goes for decision you should dominated all rounds and not with a close fight. Because judges will always respect the fact that Machida is the champion.

It was a very close night that honestly could have gone either way but ultimately the champion gets the benefit of the doubt more than the challenger because it seems that the general consensus among judges and even fight fans is that the challenger has to take the belt in a definitive fashion.

Shogun did almost enough to get the judges decision but since he didnt knock Machida out he lost and hopefully he can knock him out this next time and do not leave it in the judges hands. Judges see what they want to see and everyone knows this now. Garcia won against the Korien Zombie and he should have lost. I have seen a ton of bad decisions in the UFC and I think the UFC should find new judges since these guys cannot judge without a bias.

I thought Shogun did enough -- it was so close though. That look on his face was so sad. I like both of these guys equally and all I'm hoping for is that one of them really wins definitively this time. Let's move on and put the champ up against Rampage/Rashad, and watch the fuck out for Jon Jones lol.

Most of you people should watch the first fight with the mute button. Joe Rogans bias gets in the way of this fight. I still think shogun won but certainly not as favourably as most people think. p.s. i like joe rogan but in commenting on this fight he made alot more noise when Shogun connected than when Machida did. Plus all the flurries were both fighters connected rogan was only saying one name.

They didnt give the win to Shogun because the judges felt that he needs another KO springled on his record . Shogun gonna knock Machida out at 113 !
