If you put in a CAI it's a good idea to disconnect the battery for at least 15 min. (I disconnected during the installation process.) This resets the computer's mapping and allows it to accept the different readings from the the MAF and such. This yields better millage/power and prevents codes from being thrown which could possibly be the cause of the engine immobilizer kicking on for the person a few comments below. I have the same intake in full CAI - the filter is behind the foglight.
The same reason a car doesnt come with a huge turbo and exhaust, because there is alot of restrictions car companys have to follow with emissions and all that other bs thats why.
my eclipse came with a turbo and porsches come with turbos but the one in the eclipses suck I just bought a 3000$ turbo a few days ago and its twice as big as the stock one
I never said they didnt come with a turbo, I own a 97 gs-t, I was saying huge aftermarket turbos and exhausts, if there wasn't emmision bullshit every car company would throw 3" turbo back exhausts with 60 trim turbos. lumpy cams, etc, but they cant, so they put on restrictive intakes, exhausts and tiny gutless turbos...thats all i'm sayin
they do u idiot the ones that u can buy like these are even better but if u have like a lamborghini then u wouldnt need to because the ones in those are already insanely good intakes
Thank you captain obvious, and don't call me an idiot you piece of shit, I just asked a question, i was looking for a simple answer, not the garbage that poured out of your shithole.
I was wondering why they don't already put good intakes in cars so boost their performance instead of people having to upgrade them, a simple logical question.
and your answer was wrong, they don't put them in there because of cost and regulations.
actually the real reason they dont put open element intakes in stock cars is because they sound more intrusive when opened up. basically the same reason we have such restrictive stock mufflers. nothing to do with emissions at all, but MOST people who buy cars would rather them be quieter anyway.
actually, Lamborghini's have restrictive air intakes and ehausts too, they just have a V12 motor instead, so it isnt necessary to upgrade although alot of Lamborghini owners do infact swap out exhaust and air intakes very few keep them stock as you can get better throttle response and a nicer sound by upgrading, do a bit of research before you start calling people idiots and posting what you "think" is true
because it costs to much and they want to use the least amount of money to make it. but thats why performance cars do get cold air intakes or some sort of high performance intake and exhaust
yah but that doesn't make it CARB Legal, but yah they look nice, i just hate getting fix it tickets, such a hassle to do when you have to go to a referee and get it to pass smog again
Put it this way, it doesn't throw a code with the O2 sensors after the pre cats. Just about everyone on my forum has a CAI of some sort. A few have it configured as a ram like me. No one has said anything about having problems with emmisions. All the setups are pretty much the same, no matter who the manufactures are. Manly because there is no other way to route the tubing in the 4G Eclipse.
well what I hate is when i get pulled over and have to get it to pass visual inspection and thats where it has to have the CARB sticker and then the smog has to be done on top of the visual inspection well at least in Cali
Roughly about $230, but you also get the cold air intake tube. ebay is your best bet. Do a search for 06 Eclipse Fujita. Make sure you pay attention to the model because you get them for the GS, GT and also for the manual and automatic. Peace.
where can i find one of those.im having trouble finding aftermarket parts for my mitz

I tryed to install an intake on my car ( 4g gt) and it wouldnt start, I mean it would crank up, but die.. help?

If cold air intakes make the cars so much better, then why don't the car manufacturers put them in themselves? ever think of that?

y r the long rams better than short? they do the same, right?
whowants2know369 3 years ago
The colder the air is the more HP. So sometimes the are longer just to move the filter to a better position.

what difference would it make if the car was manual or auto? the intake system has nothing to do with the transmission.
