Looks to me like the coin is set up between the valve covers ribs so not as likely to move sideways -- still pretty impressive, many engines would not do this. If it wasnt a V12 BMW I'd suspect super glue -
@kwazykilla87 I'll have to take your word for it, I know BMW has some pretty sophisticated electronic controls. But whats more impressive to me is the rare engine with no electronics that runs this smooth - I used to be a mechanic, and the only one ive seen with that kind of idle smoothness was believe it or not a '67 Oldsmobile 330 V8 - for some reason that engine was glass smooth, passengers frequently thought the engine had died - and with a carburator too-!! I miss that car.
@yambo59 that is impressive stuff yet before my time. I did do some research on the 330 and its a sharp looking car, I can imagine that for its time it was as well. Did reading on the engine and your right they had high remarks on the development and execution of the 3 engine trims..
@seannz100 LOL I know what you mean, same with my 2003 S10 V6 - that coin would have fell into the fan and "put my eye out"- lol -- I sure miss my old small block chevys, idled much better than this nervous ass 4.3 V6,, good engine but GM has never made a smooth V6 to compare with a V8 IMO anyway.
I can take two mounts off my car and do the same thing by super gluing the coin on there. Let's see how complicated we can make an engine, BMW. That should be their tag line. More moving parts and wires means more reliable, right?
@36328ie whys that a piece of crap? i love E36.. its my favorite car but theres nothing wrong with other engines.. M70 is a fine engine.. only weighing 42 pounds more than a cast iron block 6
@obezana i bought one from an old lady, its plegged with very expencive problems that are very hard to fix, and diagnose, and alot of internet reviews will back me. they often need to be rebuilt. mechanics will send you else were and tell you stuff "this is crap sell it" "you will never stop fixing it" "drive it off a cliff"
@dumapies nothings "wrong" with the engine but it can be somewhat under powerd, i mean it only has 350hp, mine has 650. compare & contrast rain turns into snow, water rushing over ice, starting it feels like intercourse.
@obezana well, over a hundred grand. that's expensive enough to not be worth it. if i ever feel like driving down the road with a coin balancing on the tappet cover, then i'll pump out the extra dough, but in the mean time no thank you.
@obezana 20k for a 300hp V12??? You can easily get a low mileage S85 from a wrecked M5 with no hassle, maybe even a SMG tranny along with the sale.. You're getting ripped off for your engines bro.

@yambo59 it is between the ribs but i dont think its super glued because that engine is smooth as butter with double vanos technology

It´s super glue. Only the 12 cylinders before 2001 did the coin check sucessfully.

@THUSxFAR this V12 only has about 300hp....smooth as butter and plenty of torque

I suppose 350hp would feel inadequate at pulling along a 4200lb land barge.

@WeHybrid
the guy said he has a dodge charger with a v10, and chargers don't come with V10's, they come either with a 3.6 V6, 5.7 Hemi V8 or a 6.1 Hemi V8
