We have a 2 meter repeater in are town . Its dead most of the time and when you call out most of the time they just key it up. I have found the guys that are on two meters are more like cb radio opertors . To me ham radio will allways be cw operating and buliding homemade gear and understanding why it works . When the fcc droped the code I think it made it more fun . And that what we should all do is have fun .

Go to the top of Grandfather or Mt Mitchell in NC and give a call, you will be there for hours making one contact after another. One problem is bringing up multiple repeaters from mountain top and then engaging in a conversation on one of them. Others in range of their local repeater can only hear your side of the chat and this becomes annoying.

The other possibility is people in your area simply don't care to talk to you.

Don't be discouraged. In life you will meet many people who have lost heart and decide to externalize their distress on others. Just maintain your own hope and be assured this is a hobby that will see you through your whole life. I have spoken with hams from 15 to 93, and they are still enthusiastic! Nice video. You might have more luck on 146.520 simplex on the mountain top. I often take a little 300 mW 2M radio on bike rides up mountains and call out on that frequency. I can often get 100+ miles simplex, and there's always someone on. 73, Mike N9OHW
