  • God, I love the way Copeland (and you) hit the rims. MMMMMmm

  • Guitar player here, I laucnh your video in the morning and play along with it. Puts a smile on my face. Great drumming, dude.

  • Hey! great drumming! You friking rock! A Q: How can you get that speed on your both hands, im learning to play (by ear) and i don't know too much about speed exercices or stuff.. plzzz =D

  • @renzo189 Hey thanks a lot. Speed is something I really don't practise, I think after playing so many years it just gets easier. But most of my speed comes from rebound, wrist and fingers, or a combination of both, I try and use good technique, which helps make it effortless and u won't get tired.

  • @naedsukram How did you learned? Teacher or just time ? =)

  • @renzo189 time, but I had some chart reading lessons as a kid.

  • Ur awesome man, how can you be so fast ! That Hi-Hat beats, so epic !

  • 6 people have never sent a message in a bottle.

  • very good job dude !!!

  • KILLER JOB!

  • @billkrebs66 Cheers man : ) Dean

  • Ever Cover Neil on any Rush songs?

  • @xENExCLASSICROCKx No, but I know it would be difficult.

  • nice cover man, i love how you used copelands style in your own cover but just where can i get the drum free track?

  • ZOMG your great!! Copeland is such a hard drummer to cover, Jeezz i should be back practicing now rofl

  • @joeydeleste thanx man, I really didn't try and copy Copeland, but you're right, he's one of a kind.

  • Anybody knows the kind of rudiments to work on to be able to do the cymbal/hi hats fills from 00:43 to 00:48 and 2:48 to 2:50? Or a link to a youtube video teaching this.

I am a guitar player who is learning drums these days and I would like to learn this kind of fills. Thanks!

  • I really like your take on this cover: great job!

Your hi-hat/ride cymbals fills are super cool...any chance you will do a video explaining those?

  • Wanna join my band?????

  • Wow, we're going to have to listen to this again! There is so much intricacy in this track. JAM packed! Nice

  • @0911479616 What about "FUCKIN AWESOME?" lol.

  • I think i might have to attempt this cover cause i love the drums in this song soo much

  • @magicfreek101 link in sidebar

  • i like to play :D do u ?

  • What kind of crash and ride cymbals are you using?

  • @BipolarBowler Hi, all stats on channel, but this was K crashes, paiste rude ride, and looks like a cheap pst5 I got off ebay

  • I should definitely work on my hi hat foot independence... I'd love to be able to throw in the accents in there. Great cover!

  • That is a great cover. Inspirational and helpful for sticking. Feel free to post more.

  • This is awesome!!!

What type of sticks are those?

  • @DDive1991 5As nylon tip I think, usually pro mark, vic firth or vater, I'm not that fussed about brand.

  • Perfect cover!!!!!!! compliments!!! ;)

  • That was just awesome dude! Didn't notice or care that it wasn't exactly as original....it was your style and suited the song perfectly. Loved the ride accents and your stick control. I am speechless.

  • @HeathNutsDinsdale thanx man, I didnt really learn it, just played it sort of as I remembered it. Cheers : ) Dean

  • amazing

  • This has to be my favourite song on the drums i absolutely love it! if you can nail this then youve got some REAL talent, i love the way youve done it as much as Stewarts original but yeah this was awesome, loved it :D ur an amazing drummer!!!

  • you are an amazing drummer please keep up the fantastci work!

  • @CoCiCreamBlu cheers! Thanx for commenting-Dean

  • Man..this is seriously the best cover of this song out on the tube. Your groove is really avesome. Maybe a little overplayed according to my taste... but anyway this is unbelievable. Congrats man!!!

  • Stewart Copland(sp) Is crazy!

  • great !!!!

  • kudos

  • very nice. you sound just like the drummer form police ^_^

  • @seonethree thanx man, I didnt play exactly same as copeland, but yeah, stuck with the general feel...thanx for your comment : ) Dean

  • @naedsukram your welcome

  • Best cover on youtube ! It grooves so much, congrats !

    Really love this version.

  • the drums are played with such a unique feel and different beat to them in this song, it makes my heart beat and want more and more

  • @backspace3111 Thanks man, glad u like my interpretation. Cheers, Dean

  • wow man im a drummer and that song looks so complicated!!

  • @johnyboyproduction thanks, no, can be played a lot more simply and still sound good, I'm just dicking round. Cheers! Dean

  • wow man the best!!! cover ive seen! cool licks and stuff in it, and so tight! crazy!

  • @gandre1982 cheers, appreciate your comment. It's a cool song.

  • the best men...

  • Hey bro that was sweeeet you did Stewart proud !!!!!1

  • 10000000 thumbs up!!!!!

  • @EvilsRevelation Thanx for the 10 million thumbs man!

  • Wonderful work Dean!

  • god dammit!

  • would anyone be able to give me any tips on how to loosen my left wrist for playing the snare?? Just any tips in general on how to become a better drummer (: thanks

  • @DanAgger5 start with paradiddles and double strokes, playing them at different tempos makes you move from arms, wrists, fingers quite smoothly. Whatever the tempo, work on keeping everything accurate and smooth, the space between hits are as important as the hits themselves : )

  • Holy crap! U are fantastic!

  • Man, you are so wonderful! Extremely amazing!!

  • Great job, You showed amazing creativity! I can play the tune as on the album, but can't touch what you just did. Great groove bro!

  • that was awesome!

  • Yeah!!!!!!

  • awesome playing!

is this a difficult song to play?

  • nice one!

  • you have a gift.....thanks man....

  • awesome cover

  • very niiice !!!

  • Very good !

i'm trying to learn this song myself on drums : $

but shoot, i wish i could play it half as good as you. You play it better than Stewart Copeland, your fills and all your extra little notes and stuff you add are tasteful, and don't ruin the song at all, but only add to it, unlike a lot of other people who barrage a song with fills and all these extra ghost notes and shit.

  • so tasteful!

  • @drumstick5a Cheers, ultimate compliment, thankyou.

  • dude that was amazing!!!

    :)

  • @jaxace118 thanks for the comment, it's a cool song.

  • Hehe that's awsome. I wish I could drum this song, and this song only =D

  • You must be in a band, right?

  • @3R0ckY5 yeah, in a couple of bands, originals and covers. Dean : )

  • aaaajeeeee

  • FREAKING AWESOME 5 STARS!!!

  • I am a metal drummer, but i love Sting as well as for example In Flames.

But i must say these drum fills are damn advanced! When you play metal drums there are mostly simple hi-hat, bass and snare fills, while this is so much more advanced!

  • @SuperMefisto6666 thanks man. mostly just single stroke rolls with the kick thrown in here and there. I think it's where you accent the rolls that creates some interest. I appreciate your comment. Dean : )

  • Wow, very good!!!!

  • Your Stick control and sincapation is amazing. keep up the drummin' :)

  • man your control of the sticks are god-like... you should really put out some good tutorials..

  • Where'd you get the drumless version?

  • internet, it's a mogg file from the rock band game, u get all the multi tracks of the song.

  • Interesting, and where do you get all those files?

  • Got some off drum forums, like music4drums. have a search around, they'll pop up : )

  • Alright, I'll try searching out when I have time. Btw, Every Breath You Take cover? =D

  • Dunno man, great song, but not much happenin drum wise.

  • S.O.S

  • Very nice cover! ;D The Police = AWESOMENESS

  • I like the fact that it doesnt sound like the original, but ur own version. The best cover of this song so far,

  • i dislike your snare sound but beyond that, it was an amazing cover, you have skills

  • Nice work man! What I like most in you cover is that you play with a lot of feeling and groove without trying to make just a " clone" of the song.

  • thanks luca, I treated this with the same approach as Copeland, but still sorta did my own 'in the moment' thing. Ringo Starr (Beatles) never did the same fill twice, every 'take' would be different from previous: )

  • nice man, its so hard to find a good cover of this song, i think what you did was the best way to do in a take(without overdubs and whathave you) rad!!!

  • wow man extremely creative....you really captured stewart copelands style while adding a different feel to the mix, fantastic!

  • Thanx, as u said, I was trying to play it like him, but I didnt learn his arrangement exactly, he plays it different everytime he plays live anyway, which is another good excuse.

    Cheers, Dean : )

  • Good man...a lot better than the majority of the other garbage on here...

  • cheers!

    Dean : )

  • your drum kit sounds nice !!!!

  • i like ur style 5/5 :D

  • Thanks for the masterclass

  • you can the monster very good

  • great job, homie. you should feel good that you've played a masterpiece form the master

  • one of the best drum covers I've seen--great job

  • speachless keep going youll be a drummer for a famous band! ......thats what i wanna be

  • @321charter no dream is stupid or unreal if you know you can achieve it :D

  • yeah!! it so cool man!! awesome cover!!

  • What heads do you put on the toms?

  • I had remo coated and clear emperors on this clip.

  • do u play the djembe with sticks? my friend has one and i hit it with sticks it sounds awsome but im not sure if its bad for the drum or not

  • excellent! great style! 5/5 cover

  • your kit sounds amazing man, I really like the sound of ur toms.

  • very nice great energy, i wish i was as good as you

  • my god.... such talent! stewart copeland cant touch this

  • Your really working that hi-hat and snare! Awesome Cover man :D

  • Cheers Chris, thanks for commenting.

  • Fucking good man!!!!

  • great cover man

  • good

  • im trying to learn this for my college production in a few weeks but i havnt been playing drums that long and its damn near impossible lol

  • download the playalong version from the link in the video description box.

  • cheers dude

  • his version is wrong - just to warn you, its very made up by him

  • You're hired.

  • Oh ma lord, what a spankin! Totally and completely awesome!

  • 13/5

  • cool!lol

  • Nicely done mate!! I love the twist you've done. I actually prefer it this way and I've started playing it the same way.

Much fun is had by all!!

    Keep up the good work!!

    Cheers!!

  • u did a great job i dont listen to this song enough to know if this is really how copeland plays it but from the police music i listen to if i heard this i wouldnt argue that it isnt copeland, u did a great jobe of sounding like him by kicking the hi hats ass

  • Thanx man, no, it's not a copy, I just sorta played in a similar style : )

  • If I was Copeland Id smack you with a white golf glove for changing the parts around so drastically!

  • Then you my friend are a brute! Pistols at ten paces.

  • lolol

  • well jdrummys lets see you out your own drum cover of this song hitting all the beats like copeland. naedsukram got some serious skills and creativity to put his own spin to this song

  • some of the best rimshots ive seen

  • serious skill!!

  • mate im learing the drums and if you or someone could put a vid to teach how to play this song it would be great

  • ur rimshots sound EXACT to his, played diff of course. but amazing. love your version as well

  • dude you are fuckin osom

  • great job man!

    the kit sounds great

do u have any tips for the fast crossticking parts?

  • Thanx drumz4lifekse. No, not really, just hit the rim on a part of the stick that sounds good, it's possible to play doubles if u flick your wrist.

    Cheers, Dean

  • yeah it's wierd how if you take the pop shield off of an SM58 you have more or less an SM57 xD. i use mics on the bottom of the skins too it sounds much better IMO did you use the dbx for the toms as well as the snare and the kick?

  • No, I don't compress the toms on the way in, I did use the waves SSL plug at mixdown, so they are slightly compressed afterwards, equed and gated. yeah, toms sound great from a distance and on the bottom, I have miked up like that in the past, I generally dont bother for you tube vids : )

  • ah sweet what mics were you using? i've recently been experimenting with SM58's with superlux at the same time and they have been really good sound wise, i usually use compression from an external compressor rather than the software made ones but still they sounded really nice

  • sm57s on toms, but the 58s are basically identical, just less directional. I have a dbx outboard comp that I use on kick n snare for on the way in. A lot of the pro's mic top n bottom for the toms, top for attack, below for resonance : )

  • fuck me your toms sound sweet!! did you compress them before recording?

  • Hi,

the toms are routed directly into the 002 rack. I have slight compression on the whole kit thru an aux bus at mixdown, the snare is compressed before and at mixdown directly on its channel.

  • nice drumsound

  • Great cover man, but how did you get all the separate tracks from the song?

  • ur toms sound gorgeous dudeeee

  • Good feeling! There are many interpretations of message in a bottle, but yours is better!

  • Comment removed

  • Great sound! Great feeling! Have you ever tried to cover "One world (not three)" by The Police? That's pure Stewart Copeland. It could be a nice challenge for you.

  • Thanx, I don't think I know that one.

  • "One World (Not Three)" was released in 1981 on their album "Ghost in the Machine". Just type "The Police - One World (Not Three)" and have fun.

  • hmm...overall good playing, but i just found that some parts lacked the right intensity. This isnt an easy tune, pretty demanding on a drummer. Def. not bad, cool interpretation nontheless.

  • what kinda program did you use to take out the drum track? for my music assignment im going to learn this so id love for the teacher not to know if im improvising it and not playing it note for note.

  • I had all the sep tracks, muted drum part.
