Hey! great drumming! You friking rock! A Q: How can you get that speed on your both hands, im learning to play (by ear) and i don't know too much about speed exercices or stuff.. plzzz =D
@renzo189 Hey thanks a lot. Speed is something I really don't practise, I think after playing so many years it just gets easier. But most of my speed comes from rebound, wrist and fingers, or a combination of both, I try and use good technique, which helps make it effortless and u won't get tired.
Anybody knows the kind of rudiments to work on to be able to do the cymbal/hi hats fills from 00:43 to 00:48 and 2:48 to 2:50? Or a link to a youtube video teaching this.
I am a guitar player who is learning drums these days and I would like to learn this kind of fills. Thanks!
That was just awesome dude! Didn't notice or care that it wasn't exactly as original....it was your style and suited the song perfectly. Loved the ride accents and your stick control. I am speechless.
This has to be my favourite song on the drums i absolutely love it! if you can nail this then youve got some REAL talent, i love the way youve done it as much as Stewarts original but yeah this was awesome, loved it :D ur an amazing drummer!!!
Man..this is seriously the best cover of this song out on the tube. Your groove is really avesome. Maybe a little overplayed according to my taste... but anyway this is unbelievable. Congrats man!!!
would anyone be able to give me any tips on how to loosen my left wrist for playing the snare?? Just any tips in general on how to become a better drummer (: thanks
@DanAgger5 start with paradiddles and double strokes, playing them at different tempos makes you move from arms, wrists, fingers quite smoothly. Whatever the tempo, work on keeping everything accurate and smooth, the space between hits are as important as the hits themselves : )
but shoot, i wish i could play it half as good as you. You play it better than Stewart Copeland, your fills and all your extra little notes and stuff you add are tasteful, and don't ruin the song at all, but only add to it, unlike a lot of other people who barrage a song with fills and all these extra ghost notes and shit.
I am a metal drummer, but i love Sting as well as for example In Flames.
But i must say these drum fills are damn advanced! When you play metal drums there are mostly simple hi-hat, bass and snare fills, while this is so much more advanced!
@SuperMefisto6666 thanks man. mostly just single stroke rolls with the kick thrown in here and there. I think it's where you accent the rolls that creates some interest. I appreciate your comment. Dean : )
thanks luca, I treated this with the same approach as Copeland, but still sorta did my own 'in the moment' thing. Ringo Starr (Beatles) never did the same fill twice, every 'take' would be different from previous: )
nice man, its so hard to find a good cover of this song, i think what you did was the best way to do in a take(without overdubs and whathave you) rad!!!
Thanx, as u said, I was trying to play it like him, but I didnt learn his arrangement exactly, he plays it different everytime he plays live anyway, which is another good excuse.
u did a great job i dont listen to this song enough to know if this is really how copeland plays it but from the police music i listen to if i heard this i wouldnt argue that it isnt copeland, u did a great jobe of sounding like him by kicking the hi hats ass

yeah it's wierd how if you take the pop shield off of an SM58 you have more or less an SM57 xD. i use mics on the bottom of the skins too it sounds much better IMO did you use the dbx for the toms as well as the snare and the kick?
No, I don't compress the toms on the way in, I did use the waves SSL plug at mixdown, so they are slightly compressed afterwards, equed and gated. yeah, toms sound great from a distance and on the bottom, I have miked up like that in the past, I generally dont bother for you tube vids : )
ah sweet what mics were you using? i've recently been experimenting with SM58's with superlux at the same time and they have been really good sound wise, i usually use compression from an external compressor rather than the software made ones but still they sounded really nice
sm57s on toms, but the 58s are basically identical, just less directional. I have a dbx outboard comp that I use on kick n snare for on the way in. A lot of the pro's mic top n bottom for the toms, top for attack, below for resonance : )
the toms are routed directly into the 002 rack. I have slight compression on the whole kit thru an aux bus at mixdown, the snare is compressed before and at mixdown directly on its channel.
