I never wanted to send things like a thank you letter. I always believed the interview was enough but during these tough times I will send a thank you email. Thank you Brian some great tips before my interview today.
Brian you are such a huge help! Thank you! I hate the interview process, I end up over preparing and freaking myself out that when it comes time to the interview I'm exhausted and very anxious with low confidence. My recent interview did not go as I had hoped as I arrived just on time possibly a couple minutes over and luckily the interviewers were still interviewing someone else. My answers were vague and I don't feel I gave real concrete examples for each. Can I bounce back from this at all?
@annaqtjoey02 - Congrats on your new job! Now that you have a new job, please do your best to give back to others by paying forward what you have learned during your job search.
Brian, I did the breathing exercises and I think I did good on my interview. Did good on my practical exam too, and the second practical exam two days after that. Tomorrow, I have a Final interview. What's the difference between the first interview and the final interview? Does that mean I'm hired? I'm resisting to jump up and down in excitement because everything might turn a 180. Don't want to get my hopes up.
@annaqtjoey02 - it depends on the employer. For some employers, the final interview is merely a formality, the decision has already been made to hire. However, for most employers, it is the final interview of the finalist candidates, so take it as seriously as any prior interview.
Before watching your series of videos I had no confidence in writing a resume. It has been stressing me out because I couldn't bring myself to type anything at all! Your videos have given me a layout that has boosted my confidence and enabled me to put together a very professional resume! Thank you again for looking out for us!
Just had my interview for a promotion. Is it bad etiquette to ask my supervisor/team lead (person that interviewed me) if it went well or not? I have a second interview with an out of state team lead, in the same company and department, tomorrow!
@DaAlzki7852 - no, it's not bad etiquette, although some interviewers are not prepared (or willing) to provide you with open feedback at the end of the interview. Instead of asking "How did I do?" (which makes it sound like you were performing), ask: "Do you feel my background and qualifications are a good fit for this position?" If the person points out areas where you are lacking, it may give you another opportunity to put in a well timed comment about other aspects on that competency.
@BrianKrueger Thank u so much for responding so quickly. My supervisor sits right next to me so i have to find a way to do ask w/ tact. The interview was about 30m &, afterward, she started giving me idea of what to expect in the next interviewer's personality type. She stated that she "creates a strong presence" or smthing to that extent. Any advice? I plan on wearing a "softer suit" tomorrow like dark grey pinstipe coat w/ charcoal slacks & a white dress shirt. To avoid conflict.
@DaAlzki7852 - good "buying signs" from your supervisor giving you assistance in prepping for the next interview. Just be yourself, yet adapt to the other person's speaking pace during the interview. Don't go outside your normal range, just move to that end of the range to personality match the interviewer.
@BrianKrueger@DaAlzki7852 Mixed signals. She confirmed that "background and qualifications are a good fit for this position" and she told me that the meeting with the next interviewer may or may not be an interview or she may just want to talk to me!? Her tone was very casual and quick (like whatever). Im going crazy with this stuff! This interview started w/ both of them being present but the other couldnt make it and it turned into two seperate interviews.
Brian, I wonder how will sending an e-mail to thank the interviewer affect my chances of getting the job. She did give me her business card during the interview, but I'm not sure if I should follow up with a thank-you e-mail. Any advise?
Watch the video. You need to send out a thank you. Keep it short and sweet, it will greatly improve your chances of getting the job by keeping the connection moving forward after the interview (when activity can often stall).
Thanks Brian. I'm just nervous because I had an interview yesterday, and I thought I connected well. Also, this is off topic, but normally on job application, I was asked whether they can contact my past employers, and I answer "no" for various reason. Will they hold that against me?
Send an e-mail, not snail mail. By the time the snail mail gets there, the decision is already made. Your choice if you decide you want to send both, but always send the e-mail first. If you do send hard copy, do NOT send the same text (bad form). It should be a hand written thank you note.
Mr. Kruger, It did work indeed ! ! - To put it in short - I had to quit my previous job as a Team Leader due to a personal reason and after relieving from it I attended my first interview today, Option was only for Entry level not as a Team leader. tried convincing them. Finally been asked to leave saying will let you know. Came back and replied them a thank you mail and appreciating their professionalism. Been called again for the 2nd interview now - Cheers :-)
Could you maybe give an idea on what the thank you not should say? That would be lovely. I am from Europe and i never heard of people sending out a thank you note, so it could stand me out above the other candidates. Anyways i watch all your videos, and man you are good! I cannot thank you enough. God bless you.

It depends on your reason. If you just say no, they will likely assume that you did not have a positive experience there.

Hello Brian. I know the importance of sending thank you letters. Two questions:
1) In today's e-connected world, is it acceptable to send *only* an emailed thank you or should I also send a hard-copy "snail mail" version as well?
2) If I mail a hard-copy thank you letter, is it acceptable state the same text copy as the email?
