Hei , I think the theme of this very poignant song is modeled after the story of Job (yes, in the Bible) ....her voice is like that of a songbird at times....gorgeous.
We do hope that we can see and hear you in Finland soon! We love you. Ö. M & C from Helsingfors P.S. christmas, love, fight - what ever; your voice has brought us a a lot!
The original song, text and melody, was written by the Danish priest Jakob Paulli in 1902, however Sissel and the rest of the Norwegian population use the same text only translated into Norwegian and a Norwegian trad. folk tune from Åseral.
it is a norwegian song, but at the time it was made, Norway had danish as their main language. but it doesn't mean that the song is danish just because it is sung that way sometimes.
But i can understand how the Norwegian dialect can be confused with Danish in this song.
The main difference lies in the pronunciation of the words. Norwegian is a more "sharp" og "edgy" langyage.. It has some what of a more agressive pronunciation then the Danish language
The music and Sissel seemes for me to be an angle and is talking direct from the sky to the deepest corner in my sould and heart - I am from Germany, but speaks norwegian and now Lillehammer and more - Gjövik, which is only approx. 25 km south for Gjövik, there grew up once a norwegian man, who studied together with me and only because of him I learned norwegian - but he suffered that days a very serious accident and is without awarness since 20 years, it is like I could hear an angle singing
Can anyone please tell me what song Sissel sung in the closing ceremony in 1992 alberttville Olympics, she was riding a Snow bear with the Berkinblockers below her.
She also sang riding on a snow bear in the closing seremony in Albertville. I wish I could see it again, it was beautiful, and I was so proud of her :) I think she sang Molde Canticle.
It is not rare to touch anybody with a voice like hers, is much more: she comes from a country and people very special, I should say if there are a perfect society, or almost perfect, it's is Norway. They love simple things, they are humbles and know what are the most important things in life and they enjoy it.
"Lær meg kjenne" (let me to know, to learn). The rest. you heard her to tell the audience.

I can understand why the Norwegians are protective of this amazing gift of humanity. Sissle is angelic! Such a gift comes only from God. Amen!

Here's the Norwegian:
Lær meg å kjenne dine veie
og gå dem trøstig skritt for skritt
Jeg vet at hva jeg fikk i eie,
er borget gods, og alt er ditt.
Men vil din sterke hånd meg lede,
jeg aldri feil på målet ser,
og for hvert håp som dør her nede,
får jeg et håp i himlen mer.

Sissel has always been truly special when she sings the folk songs. The other stuff, trying to record pop or whatever, is horrible career management.

I dunno, she mentions it is Norwegian here, and I have heard her reference it as Norwegian in other interviews...
