  • @MeredithLightfoot Thank you for the compliment! :)

  • I am playing a teardrop-shaped, walnut McSpadden dulcimer

  • What type of Dulcimer are you using? I love the sound and it's different from others I've heard.

  • This was filmed at Virginia's Explore Park in Roanoke, VA in the living history area where I worked. Unfortunately, the park closed down in 2007 because of budget problems. I want to thank everyone for their great comments about this tune. It is the best thing that I have ever composed and I believe that is true simply because I was writing it for my ancestors.

  • @VaDulcimer Awesome stuff. Been playing around with a dulcimer for the last couple of months, its a really fun instrument.

  • MSteller, thank you SO much for your kinds words! :) Whenever I play this tune, it just makes me feel calm & relaxed.

  • This is one of the most beautiful tunes I ever heard, favored a long time ago but can't get enough of it and every now and then I come back to listen to it. A beautiful piece, your ancestors would be proud and I believe they listen with great joy from Heaven.

  • hm, first thought was....hm love your curves :P, if you're single can i come stay somewhere nearby and learn to play from you and get to know you ?

  • @XilStorm

Thank you for the great compliment!

  • Where in Appalachia do you live?

I live in WV, I want to learn to play the dulcimer. Someone taught me to play a song on theirs and I've wanted one ever since. Do you have any suggestions what style/price range I should look into for a beginner?

  • @brian8907

I grew up in a place called Meadows of Dan, VA. Currently live in Roanoke, VA. My only suggestion about getting a dulcimer is to try to attend a festival and try many different dulcimers to see which one you like best. I am playing a McSpadden in this video.

  • @VaDulcimer I live in Roanoke too. I am looking for places that would play Christmas music like this video.

  • @brian8907 not sure where you live but I'm in WV too. Most of my friends get instruments from Fret and Fiddle in St. Albans.

  • REAL RECOGNIZES REAL, I grew up around the Ozarks in Missouri and the Eastern plains of Kansas. It hits close to home for me.

  • Thank you for playing something so beautiful.

  • Wow, it's beautiful! Thanks for posting!

  • are there certain tunings that are standard on these. or do you use your own tunings.

  • @freakoutguitarsolo1 I am tuned DAD in this video. DAD and DAA are probably the most common tunings, but there are quite a few others.

  • Thank you, that was beautiful. I literally released a sigh of contentment.

  • @1mrchristopher

Thank you for the awesome compliment. When I play this tune, it leaves me feeling so serene, so I am glad that you have that "sigh of contentment".

  • amazing , you are a very talented person. Great song. I would love to take lessons from someone like you/

  • @paintedhorse1957

    Shas

  • The sound is just mesmorizing!! Great! t:)

  • What is your tuning? And how are you picking?

    Awesome song, great job!

  • I'm tuned DAD.....I'm not sure how to explain the way that I am picking.......I strum the melody string and then strum the drone strings individually to fill in the beat............

  • Beautiful tune; well played:)

  • very pretty

  • Your Dulcimer playing in beautiful! I prefer your style of lighter, more "sedate" playing than most of the faster picking. Enjoyed it!

  • The sound is almost like a Harpsichord(the piano's grandfather).

  • hello , could you tell me the price of a dulcimer ?

How much does your appalachian dulcimer cost ?

  • Beautiful song!

  • Thank you! :)

  • how much did that dulcimer cost? because im thinking of buying one. i love appalachian music. also how many strings does that have?

    Great Job!

  • Lovely

  • awesome

  • i am making a Dulcimer in my wood shop that looks almost exactly like this one i cant wait to play it, Beautiful song =]

  • Let me know how your dulcimer turns out!

  • enchanting...

  • I really like that tune and your playing.

  • Beautiful tune, and you have great technique!

  • Thank you for your kind words! I was in a bit of a melancholy mood when I wrote that tune!

  • Excellent!! How long have you been playing? Was it hard to learn?

  • I actually started playing the dulcimer about 25 years ago, but in the last 7-8 years I have started really focusing on my playing. I believe that playing the dulcimer is pretty easy. I think that if you can hum a tune and stay in tune and hold a rhythm, that you can play the dulcimer! :)

  • thank you for the beautiful music

  • cooool

  • Very simple and very beautiful. Which to me is what the dulcimer is all about. Thank you for sharing!

  • what a wonderfull tune!

  • Now, that's sweet!

  • Thanks! I was just noodling around with the dulcimer one day and this tune just sorta came out of the dulcimer in about an hour. I had recently had the bittersweet experience of cleaning out my grandmother's house to put it on the market for sale. Well, going through 70 years of your family's history can be a very moving experience.....that is where this tune came from.

  • How Pretty!!

  • Thank you!

  • This is another dulcimer. Really like the sound on this one. Great Job

    Jack

  • This is played on a teardrop cherry McSpadden

  • Nice! Very nice! :)
