  • the engine on the 2008-present Ford Flex

    Engine

    3.5 L Duratec V6

    3.5 L EcoBoost V6

  • ecoboost still dosent help, it's still slow, square, bad on gas, and has a high flipover risk.

  • I have been looking and evaluating a Ford Flex against other vehicles in its class

The Flex has an odd design and shape - perhaps it is really functional for my family and transportation needs

Yet people who i talk to have Flexs - all love them

My local Ford dealer provides good service support - which is a major plus for me

I want to thank you this video

It help to make my mind up and sway me towards that new Ford Flex

Now it becomes colour choices and options

  • Its still a boxy car that sort of looks like an oversized 60s British Austin Mini

Still i would like to see how it handles , and the cargo and passengers it will be functional for.

Huge rear cargo bay and fold down area

Its said by Toyota Matrix auto dealers and GM Pontiac Vibe salespeople at dealerships that "no one who ever bought one of those vehicles was unhappy"

This is a larger version perhaps

I want to stay with Ford products and my Ford Ranger is reaching its model life's end point

  • they have somuch space i drove one it drives like a lincoln towncar and you really dont need the turbo more maintenance

  • Talk to anyone who owns one, and they love them.

  • I still don't think this car is attractive. look like old car in my opinion. i would probably get the new explorer or edge over this.

  • Ford makes boxy look good.

  • My Dad´s got one!

    Great car!

  • 44grand

    wtf

i can get a cadillac for that

  • i like you Kelsey

  • We rented one of these and rode all the way from Oklahoma to North Carolina, I drove it over the Appalachian and it does handle like a car but it has no balls at all. It's about as gutless as my 2.8 Bronco II. Other than the poor power and average gas mileage, I really liked this car. It was very comfortable and very quiet on the inside.

  • 31 people dont appreciate Kelsey

  • It's one of the most ugly cars I've ever seen.

  • holy crap dude is all over the road!!!

  • fugly

  • Xb got the entire underground Gen Ys, you can even get a sneaky gatherings at local mall parking lots after 10pm, "if" no cops around. Then comes the Cooper Mini gangz doing the same. Xb got all the hooked upz, large/wide wheels for those 30 yrs and under and the Minis got the professionals 30+. So unless Flex gets cheaper and much better mpg, well, with today's economy, most momz just do Town & Country instead. Too bad, I love this car, hey Mr Mullaly, your Flex co$t too much "mula"!

  • Would be a nice change from a mini-van, but it's a shame that there is not more trunk space.

  • @Quisyfrottesypique Well nothing beets a minivan in terms of space. You're guaranteed more interior volume in a Sienna or Odyssey than a Chevrolet Suburban or Ford Expedition given the smaller footprint.

  • why does everyone hate kelsey? i think he is funny sometimes, and he points out things that other reviewers dont, i think the guy does his job. keep it up Kelsey!!! =)

  • Holy crap lane swerve 1:55! Hold your lane properly! He drifts to his left, then over-corrects and drifts too far right and is getting rather close to that white car in the right lane.

  • if it is a twin turbo why isn't it a flex fuel vehicle? when is ford going to take advantage of E85 and the 105 octane you get from it? I am looking for high compression.

  • Looks like a hearse

  • Those who experienced the Mousetang or Thunderchicken with the turbo option probably still have nightmares about the price of a new turbocharger (they only had 1, thank God!) when it blew out and not under warranty. ~$500 for the part, and that was around 1988 or so. The only way I'd even consider one of these now would be if it came with a lifetime warranty on the turbos.

  • wow a twin turbo charged refridgerator, i need one for my kitchen

  • Ford is not like they were 10 years ago! I test drove almost every 2010 model from Ford(USA) and they're more like a Lexus(besides the Focus and such). I was on the highway driving the SHO and I looked at the speedometer and I was doing 105mph!! It felt like I was doing 60mph. The ride of the SHO & Flex is absolutely amazing! Ford is definitely on the right path! WOW!!

  • BOX ON WHEELS

  • Sweet ride. I love this car so much.

  • "crossover"... When I was a kid, we used to call this a station wagon. And I like how hs underplays the 355 horsepower as if its just ok.

  • This is why I hate cars.com. This is not a review, this is a comparison video, and that is all they do. They never talk about how the car works as a package, they compare it to other vehicles in different aspects, but not across the board.

  • Mss627 fuel economy? Fiesta gets over 40 on the highway! It's not a hybr. And it's 10k cheaper that a prius!

  • Not good enough. American automakers are still half stepping. Screw horsepower. Fuel economy is the goal.

  • @mss627 speak for yourself. the second wave of Ecoboost engines are turbo fours, wait for those too come out

  • It looks like a Range Rover but lowered, not a bad look after all

  • This thing says Class. It has just the right amount of chrome and I love the offwhite roof, it's like nothing else out there.

  • slightly stretched range rover in terms of design ..very innovative..lol

  • way too much money for that thing.

  • this guy is defintily loving chevy and toyota up the ass, every other ford flex review i've seen loved this car in every aspect and said is BETTER than the competition!

  • What right minded parent would name a boy Kelsey?

  • Lol.. Very unique!

  • This is an exceptional vehicle! I have driven both the Chevy Traverse and the Flex, and while the Traverse is a VERY good start for GM, the Flex is already the refined large people/stuff mover that it was designed to be. It has one of the best highway rides I've experienced in recent memory and 2nd row space is cavernous! Add this to its distinctive good looks and this GM guy declares the Flex the winner hands down!

  • Hmmm V8 power with V6 economy? It is not often mentioned what happens to that V6 economy when you use even a small amount of that V8 power. Can you say down the toilet?

  • @lbart2005

not exactly true. This engine makes most of its torque below 2000 rpm, where as other v6 need to be worked much harder to achieve the same level of speed. I used to get much worse mpg in my v6 fx35, then my friend who owned an fx45 which was a v8 (we had very similar drilling styles).

  • What are the two favorite "WORDS" of carscom reviewers?

The answer would be......AHH and UMM.

  • @lbart2005 lol thats true

  • Comment removed

  • It Is just a more powerful engine...the only difference is that it can hold more wight and still go faster...very reasonable if you have a job to haul people around =]

  • i forgot to mention that with eco boost you speed up faster

  • Comment removed

  • i know there's plenty of people talking shit about the Flex and when it first came out, i wasn't that crazy about it, especially the styling. but i've gotten a chance to test drive one and this the family hauler i would buy. the ecoboost is a gem of an engine and every seat is a good seat. even the 3rd row is decent for someone my size (5'10, 215lbs). i dont care what other offers might have over the Flex. the Flex is the better vehicle in my opinion

  • Kelsey Mays sucks. He thinks he's the shit. SHUT UP!!!

  • "no one appreciates me around here," really, Kelsey, no one? You're right.

  • The F-150 is too big. Just saying it like it is. You can't say something or make a statement and not expect people to respond. Again, the Flex starts at $28k, the average Flex sold is over $35K, and dealerships can't keep the ecoboost ones on lot. Ford did research and believed people will buy the Flex at this price. People are buying at that price. Ford is making bank. That's just the way it is. If people refuse to pay $44K, Ford would lower the price. It's business.

  • You should see him around a Honda. Any minor complaints on a Honda are negligible to him but he like to say something nice about a domestic in order to justify his follow up complaints: the buttons don't feel right: worst car ever. That's pretty much how he reviews.

  • Okay, then go for it and buy the Jeep. The Flex is not for you, no one cares. Ford doesn't. If you want to tow a boat Ford offers the Explorer which can tow about the same as the Cherokee and starts at--what's that? $28K even without rebates. Or the Expedition, which can tow up to 9200 lb? Flex is a crossover and Grand Cherokee is a SUV, The crappiest engine on the GC doesn't even get better gas mileage than the Flex Ecoboost. Not to mention all the shitty CO jeep is making now. lol

  • It's a flippin CROSSOVER not an SUV ,since when would you go off-roading in a low to the ground station wagon. The Ford Flex is what it is so....It's a very nice CROSSOVER.

  • Can't cars get someone else to review Ford's, he seems really biased towards Honda and Toyota.

  • oh god not kelsey...

  • $44,815 is kind insano for this SUV.

BUt then again,a Traverse fully loaded without eco boost can hit 48K before taxes

  • its a station wagon

  • SUV's are expensive. Ford, Chrysler, and GM made hundreds of billions off SUVs. They're the most profitable platform type ever made so $44k is not too unreasonable. Sub/Tahoe start at $39k and $44k respectively.

  • Thats true.

Honda and Toyota SUV's are cheaper

  • Toy/Honda SUV's are not cheaper, they're just about the same.

    Escape: $20K, Rav4: $21K, CR-V: $21K

    Explorer: $28K, 4Runner: $29K, $28K

    Expedition: $35K, Sequioa: $38K, Land C: $64k

Fully optioned, the Ford's are still cheaper and Honda doesn't offer V8's.

  • noone appreciates me around here =/

    lol

  • True and the average (as in what most families have for size and towing needs) american also rarely (if ever) needs the ability to haul 8 people and their gear while also towing over 5,000 pounds. So something like a flex or a chevrolet traverse honda pilot makes much more sense than wasting fuel in a suburban.

  • And that won't carry as much cargo or haul as many people as a Econoline 350 with a V10. They were saying for those that needed three rows of seating but not the towing that just wanted the V8 power for passing here is an alternative. Just like the Suburban is a better alternative to the Econoline if you are only hauling 8 people not 15 and towing nine thousand pounds. All the passing power with better fuel economy.

  • That front end looks like it's design was taken from an Range Rover Sport... but not even close though

  • Comment removed

  • hmmm... looks like now days you gotta fork out $50K for a car...

  • it looks like a shoe

  • HAHAHAHAHA.... very funny!!

    It does though! lol

  • I agree with igotwhips, I like the Buick Enclave more. I hate all these ugly ass box cars that seem to be the fad nowadays.

  • When this car first came out I liked the styling. But now it seems to have gotten old fast. Buick Enclave looks cool.

  • I drove one and dam i was impressed with the power! it was really a good experience, i would buy one if it wasn't so expensive :(

  • IN MY OPINION, the car is ok to me. The one major draw back for me is that is it WAY TOO BOXY!!!! I'd rather have a Honda.

  • Eco-boost and 16mpg don't really go together Ford. If something gets this poor of mileage it should be called TwinForce !

  • That's in the city, like they said V8 power with V6 fuel economy. That's the point of the motor. Just look at other V6 Crossovers in this segment, their fuel economy is very similar, wait, they have V6 power not V8 power.

  • Comment removed

  • Ugly.

  • when they first came out I thought it was really disgusting, Now its pretty good sharp styling

  • I agree, I felt the same way when it first came out and now I like the styling a lot too.

  • Comment removed

  • That is funny I just priced one out with AWD not FWD on Honda's web site and I got $44,002 with the towing kit that allows it to tow 4,500 pounds.

  • it looks cool

  • ha ,

    not funny

  • CX-9 got this beat.

  • Please Kelsey tell us how big the glovebox is.

  • Its a Match BoX ??!!!

  • "Flex? Muscle?"

    Badum tish!

  • $44K? come on Ford! just like i said with with the Taurus SHO great car great motor but the damn price!

  • wow, $44k is really expensive.

  • Honestly, for what you get...it's a great price. I cant afford it..but if I could i would buy it.

  • i like it too,ive seen some and they look great.

  • lol look at the 2:00 mark. he just said the flex is good at passing up cars but u can see that he's moving over when the white car is right next to him

  • for $44k theyre insane?! i under stand it's 355hp out of a v6 but what else does this thing offer that makes it better than o say a volvo xc60 or bmw x3? they bearly showed the interior. i was thinking of getting on to replace my mazda5 but its way to expencive with a base sticker price of almost 30k.

  • HOLY CRAP! Wow. 44k...crazy.

  • too mediocre looking.

  • Looks terrible.
