@gt5profan What... really? I ACTUALLY thought there was a helicopter keeping up with the car perfectly behind it, at the same speed, even exactly in line with the car. Im such a noob haha.
No, but seriously, did you ACTUALLY think that my first comment was serious?
There is a brilliant feature on this car in this months issue of Motorsport. It says that the guy driving here loved it, but one of the others, Scheckter i think it was, absolutely hated it.
F1 seriously needs to go back to full manual gearboxes so drivers can make mistakes, it would solve a lot of the overtaking problems. With computers doing all the work mistakes are barely made no wonder it's a procession at most circuits.
Goes to show that the bodywork that normally would surround the driver only offered a false sense of security at best. These drivers from the beginning all the way up to the early '90's were truly the bravest there ever were. I'm just amazed that Depailler was driving here totally exposed, but he was actually going at a pretty good clip!
it looked to me that it was (icy handeling) in the corners..its a very cool looking car and i actually own a model of the p34 but there were more reasons against it..id think it would do better on a high speed course with less turns..still a very interesting look at soimething differnt..i wish i was downloadable in f12010 that would be cool!
awesome car! i was prolly like 1 year old when it was raced lol. read the story about it. kinda suks goodyear didnt wanna continue to make tires for it. 1 of a kinda car to me
HOLY SHIT! The 1970s were just completely a different world to modern Formula One. Had Depallier crashed, he almost certainly would've died judging from the overhead view. So much of him is exposed, and that Tyrell was sliding about like mad as well.
What's staggering as well though, (apart from the obvious 6 wheels), is the fact he's braking with his right foot, + applying the clutch with his left to change gear to change gear like an ordinary road car!
@ferrari1345 It's mounted on a small tower just behind the driver's head. They didn't use it during the race as it was a danger to other drivers. The smaller ones mounted in a cone didn't come around for another couple of years.
Incredible!!!! Inches away from death and he didn't even flicker about it! =).

@LoveShock2 IF you delve deeper into the history books of motorsport even further that Brooklands as you would find is the FIRST purpose built motor racing track that has been paved with conctete. Indianapolis was paved in wood before bricks took their place. Brooklands, even though it wasn't all that sucessful (after the war it has never been used for motorsport again) is the prototype that led to all circuits around the world, including the 'ring.
