Good job, always enjoyed playing this. I particularly enjoy the traditional SA sight of the officers sat in front trying to look calm whilst a band plays full blast six inches from their ears!
love this! :D its got a really good trom part. i think this recording is very good, nice and tight were it needs to be. a lovely expressive solo from the euph and cornet at the slower section and a good acomp from the rest of the band. this has clearly been well reharsed. U to the end is definatly the best part of it great percs here too. Bass trom resounding well in the trom tune bit. nice sop at the end aswell. thanks for the post :)
I've heard this soprano player play live, and on various recordings with different bands. You'd be hard pressed to find a player that executes as well as Stewart. Plus the quality of this recording makes it hard to tell.
Wow isnt it a small world- ae doneapoo? I too play percussion and am playing the xylophone for Shine as the light! Yea its pretty hard at first but fun after you master it.
Sounds pretty good. You gotta love when you play that final chord, and it's a good volume, well balanced, you just want it to resonate through the hall...then the soppy holds on way too long and it sounds like shit.
We're actually travelling to Sydney to play this piece in a few weeks. Its not an easy piece, mind you I play the bass ... But there are parts where it really gets going. These American bands can produce a sound that neither British or Australian bands can, it is quite amazing ... Well done though.
It's definitely a strong reading, but the NYSB has come a VERY long way since this was taped. The cornet playing here while executed quite well, has a trumpety sound here, and Aaron VanderWeele has come miles and miles in his playing (end chair euphonium). In fact, he just won the International Euphonium Player of the Year award this year!
i actually got to play this piece last week. it's definitely no easy task. i agree with "hcl" they definitely could be warmer. i think what happens with the euphoniums is that ppl switch to it without bothering to learn how to properly play it. plus american bands tend to emphasize euphoniums...
Sorry, i didn't want to offend you. Just think it could be warmer, expecially in the horns, i'll bet they're french horn players too. Euphonium spanks it too much :D But it's tight and really good.
Impressive I someday hope to make a perfect praise as this next to my band.God blesses them. Solo con ayuda de Dios todo es posible La luz llego la parte mas impresionante de este arreglo.
Great music, well done band!
We are playing this also .

This is on the Sheldon Theatre Brass Band's 2010 holiday concert. My favorite part is the section that begins at 1:40.

The tempo at the end is to fast. But they settle after a few bars.
I played this years ago, under the steady hand of Mister. Roland Cobb. Great man with a big heart.

Interesting how people are talking about British vs American sound. The entire solo cornet row of this band is from the UK!

I like how the perc players omitted that really hard xylophone part......yet I have to play it in a contest tomorrow :-s

That part is awesome, I love it!
The part sounds a lot more fancy than it actually is, and plus the band plays this ridiculously fast in my opinion.

The choral at the end(The Light Has Come) is played a bit fast.
In the senza misura(the part with the tubular bells...) the glockenspiel player doesn't play the right notes.
This music needs 3 percussion players, so in this performance we are missing something from the percussion.
But this is a good performance
(srry for the bad english)

That was good. But I've never heard a band from the U.S. that's had the sound a band should.

How so? this sounds EXACTLY like many British Brass Bands i have seen and heard. What is this sound?
