I realize your comments are 8 months old, but do YOU realize that this performance is 6 years old?? Geoff has only gotten MUCH worse since then. MUCH MUCH worse.
Rockenfield is the only drummer the band has ever had. In fact, the band has had all original members since the very beginning with the exception of guitarist Chris DeGarmo.
I was there! They opened for Priest. Probably one of the best shows I ever saw. They did this one, Surgical Strike, The Whisper, and Walk in the Shadows, too...awesome to hear the stuff from Rage.
@bassmanjoe . well it just depends on what night you catch these guys. touring is very hard on vocalist and some nites are better than others. ive seen geoff tate several times and thought he sounded awsome. and heard hlford and dickenson not sound so good sometimes, but overall these singers are great and im very lucky to have seen and heard them. just look at things realistically, at least its not steven pearcy ha ha ha.
I've been loving Queensryche since I was 17..I'm 42 now and STILL love them. They are by far one of the greatest bands ever! I'm lucky enough to have seen them a few times in the 80's. So glad I was a teenager then :)
The first time I saw Queensryche was in 1986 and they were opening for RATT. I was very familiar with the "Rage For Order" album before I saw them. Well, they came out and opened the show with this song. Geoff Tate was wearing this long black trench coat and it was unbelieveably awesome. It blew my 12 year mind! RATT had nothing on them. By 1986 RATT had become a little too glam for my taste. "Rage For Order" is without a doubt my favorite Queensryche album.
@drewper73 saw that tour too. same memeory. 98% of the fans were there 4 ratt & didn't know what 2 think of qr. i like both but was most excited to see qr. all but scott had on blk coats, pants, boots. they looked so regal. nothing like other 80's bands.tate had mohawk like hair. they came back in'88 w/ def leppard. mtv was playing them & fans loved them then. blew lepp away.
Amazing! And it was just as amazing this past year on the American Solidier tour....Queensryche is the hardest working, most down to earth band.....Hope they ryche on forever.....can't wait to see what's next on the new album!
@TheTim1007 the poor mans halford? tate has a better voice and is a better songwriter. halford can scream louder but what else can he do better then geoff? he cant even carry tates microphone btw tate has a four octave voice range.
I would've thought this song would be too difficult to reproduce (sonically) in a live setting but they've done a masterful job here. I really would've like to have seen a production video for this song. Maybe somebody who knows how to do it can use some imagery from "V for Vendetta" or maybe from "Equilibrium" for this song to make a video.....
saw em at the HoB Chicago may 09, they did 3 suites, incl Rage, MIke stone obviously no longer there, but this band still rocks! Degarmo or not. The duet with Tate's daughter blew me away, but I have a daughter, American Soldier was not the success this was commercially, but meant a lot to many
I'm giving a shout out to Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson, for always giving kick ass performances. They never get their deserved recognition as original QR members and awesome musicians. Still love Geoff too. RYCHE ON!
Damn - Tate has still got it - but the presence and chemistry just aren't there like they were back in the day...I saw 'em in '88 or '89 on the Operation: Mindcrime tour, and they were just mind-blowingly good \m/
WOW love the song but they are using canned stuff. Tate is just a wonder. He's a musician through and through he mixes it sometime for his own sanity probably.
I'll admit that QR's songwriting has suffered since Degarmo left. But this song is vocally dominant, and Stone plays the solo right along with Whip just fine. Even the new guy Parker is a great guitarist. Though I would love for Degarmo to come back, this version sounds just as good without him. I saw them twice this year and they opened their set with this song and it rocked. Though Geoff seems to have lost some of his power, he still sounds great but not as good as he sounds here.
i saw queensryche in 1984, minnesota, kiss comeback tour, the warning was just released. yeah, Q isn't the same without degarmo, but that's his choice.
I have to agree. I saw them back in May, of this year. I hadn't seen them in a while, and had heard, he was having vocal problems, but when I saw them perform in may, It was like I was back in 1987 seeing them for the first time. It was incredible!! I wish I could see them again.
I grown up on Queensryche, King Diamond, and WASP. But the 'ryche was the best. Rage for Order is a masterpiece. Geoff's voice is hipnotizing me since the first time I ever heard the Operation Mindcrime... Queensryche is the thoughtful people's metal!
Yeah but for that song, its really impossible for Geoff to do all the vocals on the chorus, there's just so much going on. He'd need like a full set of backing vocalists.
I concur totally! I've been a Queensryche fan since the EP. I must admit that after being so engrossed in The Warning, I thought "what the F*@k was that" the first time I listened to Rage for Order. After many listening sessions I realized how brilliant the album truly is. Of course, Mindcrime was an amazing step forward, but I still consider The Warning and Rage some of their best works. I am among those that feel there is a void without DeGarmo, but i still follow and support the band.
cant disagree with that,i seen the band touring the warning cd with dio.did not realize then that a cople years later i would fall big time 4 them.miss cris, the band miss chris.very speacil band .
Mike Stone is out, left on his own to pursue other things, future son-in-law Parker took over, did an exceptional job I might add. This was the first song they played on the "American Soldier" tour. If you have never seen Queensryche live, I highly recommend them, they are truly one of the best live bands you will ever see!!!!! I would know to, seen 12 times, always worth every penny!!!!
One thinge everyone seems to be forgetting unless you havent seen them live recently; Eddie Jackson performs the background vocals on songs like this. Tate even mentions it on a dvd.
WOW sounds amazing here@!! geoff is the fucking man!!! rage for order is one of my fav albums of all time hands down! and geoff still has it today! cant wait for the new tour heard they will be playing rage, empire and the new album!!!geoff even sounds better and has regained alot of his range since he quit the cancer sticks i love this band and geoff!! and i dream chris degarmo will rejoin within 1-2 years!!
And as a vocalist, and ear trained, I can hear certain differences, like his voice's timbre is slightly different on some parts, and some notes aren't held long enough, no back tracking here... still amazing though.
Geoff is certainly not using a backing track on this. I have numerous bootlegs from this tour and you hear differences every night, including an occasional off note. But there are a few when he is dead on just like this video. It's remarkable for sure, but definitely real. The backing track for backup vocals, synth and sound effects are used to enhance the sound. The band and Geoff are all very much singing/playing.
If you knew anything about vocals you would call yourself an idiot for that comment. He's recreating the effect of the muffled vocals (phone) on the original track by housing the waves.
i remember when Rage For Order came out. I was the only one of my friends to get into them then. We were all into the HEAVIER metal. I drove my guys crazy with this song! I was rockin the Geoff Tate mullet back in 87!
and yes, he has trouble at times- it is not easy doing 2- 3 hour shows of this shit for decades-- it is not kind on you-=- and geoff has never taen a retirement or extended break.
I dont care if he hits the highs--- his tone is golden
Geoff has quite an enigmatic voice. He sang that almost like the studio version 20 years ago. At other times, it seems like it's difficult or him to hit the high notes on certain songs. Moreover, it's very difficult to tell when he's using his falsetto, since it's very seamless when he switches between true voice and falsetto.
"I will light the way for us to find Order of a new kind Join us on the stay the road is mine Poets line in a rhyme of silence Gathered from the winter air Warms the children's eyes they see The time is near for the signs" I can hear the chimes Ringing for you for me I can see your eyes Your hands joining with me I can feel its time Come together hold the light Keep the flame we can't let this world remain the same"
I gotta say, I am fucking impressed, Tate still has it alright, damn, after over 20 years, he still can hit the high notes. I love this song, and to see that they still can perform it live and make it sound as it did back in 1986, wow...just...wow...
I read, quite a few years ago in a metal/rock magazine, an interview with Geoff where he said he was kind of "showing off" (his words) his very high vocals on the early material to make an impact on the metal scene, now he felt he'd proved himself and could relax into a more "natural" mid-range.
if anyone knows who may have the studio version of this song on youtube could you let me know?? I couldn't find it!this is One of my favorite ryche songs.
Damn Tate sounds FANTASTIC. To the person who commented about sample vocals, yes there are, but just simply because there were so many layers on that album no human could ever reproduce it live. The parts Geoff sings are DEAD ON.
As QR progressed, they realized how important RAGE was in the general scheme of things-they keep bringing back songs from RFO: Walk in the Shadows, Infrared, Whisper (1 of my favs), Killing Words, Surg Strike, London, Screaming in Digital, damn near the WHOLE ALBUM!
i have seen the ryche 5 times and they are just as good last year as when i met them in march of 89 when the openned for metallica, still have the signed album and rock on geoff and the boys
Oh, God, YES!! I saw them open for Metallica then too and I was completely blown away. Their studio takes are great but live is where the music really lives and breathes!
it too bad that degarmo left think about how much better opermindcrime 2 wouold of sounded more technical i liek stone but hwne it comes to wrting DEGARMO all the way
QUEENSRYCHE BEST BAND YESAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Great perfromance of one of their best songs. Saw them on the Rage tour w/ Ratt and they opened with this song. It was eerie feeling. The Ratt crowd didn't know what to think when they came out in their long black coats & boots.
One my personal favorites By QR. Surprised other even recall it. It was almost like a b-side. Audio is better than the average live footage... right on for the post.
I saw these guys in Holland on the operation mindcrime tour and the tribe tour. He still has got a great voice, much more "character" than James La Brie.
Oh shit yeah they did. I have that show, my first 05 show from Ryche. I thought Geoff was gonna ruin everything, but he nailed most of it. This? Screaming in Digital? WOW! And then Rob came out and was.. well... not in top form.
anyone ever figure out what the subliminal messaging is between the beats in the beginning? It says "6....6....6...OBEY!" AWESOME!

I dont care if he hits the highs--- his tone is golden

Yeah, I don't know how he can keep that up. Not only is he a great singer, but his endurance is incredible.

Thee best vocal performance (Album version) of any metal singer, in history. This is the best singer in metal ever.

I gotta say, I am fucking impressed, Tate still has it alright, damn, after over 20 years, he still can hit the high notes. I love this song, and to see that they still can perform it live and make it sound as it did back in 1986, wow...just...wow...

God Damn Sam, WOW indeed!!
I don't get it though - as you said, HE CAN CLEARLY HIT THE HIGH NOTES - So why has there been such a depart from high singing in recent years?
theatheteapot 3 years ago
I read, quite a few years ago in a metal/rock magazine, an interview with Geoff where he said he was kind of "showing off" (his words) his very high vocals on the early material to make an impact on the metal scene, now he felt he'd proved himself and could relax into a more "natural" mid-range.

They have a feel that is on its own in music. Been listening for 20 years hopefully 20 more. By the way, check out Promised Land album.!

Great to see them still doing stuff from rage

Damn Tate sounds FANTASTIC. To the person who commented about sample vocals, yes there are, but just simply because there were so many layers on that album no human could ever reproduce it live. The parts Geoff sings are DEAD ON.
As QR progressed, they realized how important RAGE was in the general scheme of things-they keep bringing back songs from RFO: Walk in the Shadows, Infrared, Whisper (1 of my favs), Killing Words, Surg Strike, London, Screaming in Digital, damn near the WHOLE ALBUM!

Absolutely! I've seen just about all their tours for the EP on and Rage is one of my all time favs. Great, great masterpiece.

WOW, can't believe he can still sing this. I believe there's some sampled background vocals here, but still! NICE!!!!

Oh, God, YES!! I saw them open for Metallica then too and I was completely blown away. Their studio takes are great but live is where the music really lives and breathes!

QUEENSRYCHE BEST BAND YESAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Zach1114 3 years ago
they came from the future.
Can you believe this song was made in the 80's?..
well, you know.
I thin NIN, FILTER, MARILYN MANSON, Rammstein and a lot of other bands. They owe so much to queensryche!

Great perfromance of one of their best songs. Saw them on the Rage tour w/ Ratt and they opened with this song. It was eerie feeling. The Ratt crowd didn't know what to think when they came out in their long black coats & boots.
Both bands were great.

One my personal favorites By QR. Surprised other even recall it. It was almost like a b-side. Audio is better than the average live footage... right on for the post.
McGuffen 4 years ago
god dammit, this is great.
I saw these guys in Holland on the operation mindcrime tour and the tribe tour. He still has got a great voice, much more "character" than James La Brie.

Tate rules! He had to cheat this song in '95... and in '05 he fucking nails it!!

i have a bootleg , audio from Toronto ! This was awesome .
They blew Priest away!
davefrombolton 4 years ago
Oh shit yeah they did. I have that show, my first 05 show from Ryche. I thought Geoff was gonna ruin everything, but he nailed most of it. This? Screaming in Digital? WOW! And then Rob came out and was.. well... not in top form.
nattiep 3 years ago
Your are right and PRIEST was almost comical !That was the frist time i have ever seen Priest , what a disappointment.
davefrombolton 3 years ago
