The idea maybe is that I'd set up a place on "MeTube" like this, call it "Bug Norman Spinrad" or something better, and allow video comments, including maybe comments on the comments as well as my own answers, so it would all be in the same place. I do not want to get involved in moderating some blog community or anything like that.
a group/community thing or something, collect questions, opinions etc. and everybody takes a turn calling someone :-) of course, none of us have any clout, and the audience here is so wide that I doubt that (beyond the obvious ones) there are a whole lot of common concerns that people have...
it's a cool idea but maybe not the idea of youtube because we all have cameras, and we can all film our phone conversations. so it would be unfair to let you do it for us. a better idea would be to open [...]
What has disturbed me is that the novel inspired at least two talk show personalities who I loathe to run for public office. Robert K. Dornan whose show format was based on the novel as closely as technology would allow who used it as a platform to get elected to Congress, and Pat Buchanan, who ran for President. Not my kind of guys.
Your novel was very prescient in your creation of a media personality. Howard Stern, Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, etc., have elements of Bug Jack Barron about them.
A lot of films seem to have been in inspired by BUG JACK BARRON to the point where people have asked me why I never sued--NETWORK, the Oliver Stone, etc. Warren Ellis openly admitted to me being "inspired" by BJB in his graphic novel work. And that's the point, inspiration is not plagiarism. THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE was inspired by MOBY DICK, and I admit it right here on YouTube.
Oliver Stone's 1988 film Talk Radio (based on Eric Bogosian's play)creates a similar character in Barry Champlain. I wonder if Bogosian was inspired by the novel?
Are you going to do this ?
