You can not force a Budgie to get tame. You must take your time and be very patient with the bird. He needs to gain trust in you. You need to take if very slow and not force him to do anything, or he will not trust you. If you take it slow he will come around and be a good bird.
Cool ... just take it slow and easy with the new Budgie. Don't rush him too much to get tame as that can stress them out. Go get a book or two and read up on Budgies if you haven't already. Also, search around for a Budgie chat board, as there are many experienced owners who can help you if you need it. Good luck with Merlin and post a video sometime.
Hi girlygirljune -- I got Pogo at the local Petco store. He was very young (about 2 or 3 months old) when I got him. He's turned out to be a great Budgie, and keeps me entertained all the time.

Yes, I think I got Ziggy about 6 months after this video. You can see the little cage Pogo use to have, but now Pogo & Ziggy share one giant cage.
