I've only taken gymnastics when I was like 5 of 6, but I'm naturally pretty good on the bars. I really want to start again and hopefully make a career out of it, but I didn't know if it would be possible since I'm 11 now and have so little experience. I take ballet right now that might help with balance, and I can hang on a bar hang for more than a minute and climb the rope in gym with ease, so that might be helpful. So could you please tell me if I could make a career out of it? Thanks.
the title is a little missleading. when i clicked on this video i was thinking that it was going to be gwo gymnasts fighting. the title should be :failed: not "meltdown.
Ummm... Kim Zmeskal at the 1992 Olys, Dawes in both the 1993 and 1994 Worlds, Moceanu at the 1996 Olys, Liukin in 2007 Worlds, and lastly... Sacramone in 2008 Olys. Those were all pretty bad, but Dawes takes the cake in my book. Horrible. She went last on VT in BOTH competitions.
@maloneysnewtibiarod Do you have any idea what was wrong with Kim Kelly? I heard she was getting over a stomach virus or flu or something. I heard same thing with Carly when she had her meltdown. I don't know if you know, I'm just curious.
@Timic83pronc i know Kim Kelly had the flu. Apparently she couldn't keep any food down days before this...why she was allowed to compete is beyond me. I don't know what was up with Carly, though
if she had just been born a couple years later she wouldve been able to make it to the 2004 olympics as a specialist. too bad it wasnt a thing back then

Vanessa alter is such a fail. She puts in zero effort after she makes a mistake, like she doesn't care. It annoys the hell out of me. Well congrats Vanessa i guess your to cool for mistakes! That got you off the olympic team and nowhere in your gymnastics career!
You imagine being in her position, I cant imagine how deflating it must feel to have it all go wrong.
PLEASE do not the idiotic drivvel that Elfi and her bitch spew influence your opinions on gymnasts, I have seen Atler outside gymnastics and she is a ridiculous perfectionist and over acheiver
@tomsk14 i think with luv4cookie1 is trying to say is, vanessa after all her well.. fails she doesn't really SEEM to have any effort into finishing the routine nicley, she is in here like 3 times no offense!!!! i like her but she does have her moments
@luv4cookie1 Vanessa atler was a great gymnast who unfortunatly got screwed over by age rules. she peaked when she wasn't allowed in major international competition but still allowed herself to continue even on her downfall. most gymnasts would've given up after a couple of months, but vanessa continued for 2 more years. she had an emotional breakdown shortly after the 2000 olympics where she completely removed herself from her family and friends. Because of comments like this. ur very cruel.
@missmouse35 What screws people over is the continuing belief that you have to be a teenager to have gymnastic success. We've been seeing older gymnasts these days (think about Mohini Bhardwaj; she had the chance to try for both the 1996 and 2000 Games, but peaked in 2004). What screws people over is pushing someone to try to compete at a high level when they lack the emotional maturity. Maybe if Vanessa hadn't been under the pressure from her coaches she could have continued.
@sus611611 it's not a fall. I looked at her other competition vids, and she does the same move after this spin. She meant to do this. It looks sloppy though. This move has always bugged me.

To be quite fair, the bars were not Vanessa's best event. She was wonderful on the floor, however. So expressive.

she is terrible

I definitely would have included Shannon Miller's 1993 worlds beam EF routine in this montage. That was a pretty bad meltdown.

I love Karpenko's music in the background of Atler's beam routine. Such a shame Viktoria fell on floor in the Olympic AA in 2000.
