This movie was based on an old irish legend,at the end when tristan dies isolde is supposed to die by his side from a broken heart, in their rememberence two willow trees were planted on either side of the river were they grew together over the river,then all of a sudden the trees and the river were lost in history,so nobody knows wether the story is true or not.xxxxxx
I'd checked up on the legend before seeing it for the first time, and I was wondering during the whole film if they were going to have Isolde die, too, or not. A selfish part of me kind of wanted them to go along with the legend because of what she did (albeit accidentally) to Marke.

I don't hate Marke, but the whole point of the film is that Tristan and Isolde were meant for each other, they were soulmates. Marke does care for Isolde after he marries her, but he didn't really know her, he couldn't even see how unhappy she was. Isolde revealed her true self only to Tristan, and it's heartbreaking that they couldn't be together. Tristan and Isolde had true love, a love so pure, deep, and powerful that it transcends everything.
I know in the movie she said she couldn't hate his uncle.I wish it hadn't had such a sad ending but the best movies usually do.His uncle didn't even hurt her or him when he found out about their deception.He truly cared but like you said he never knew the real her.Was this movie based on a true story?
I'm a big Moonlight fan (Sophia Myles stars in that now) on CBS and I hear that Rufus is doing a show on CBS called Eleventh hour. They should have him do a guest spot on Moonlight--he could really cause some angst between Mick and Beth. And he'd actually be worthy competition for Mick (one of the few).

Personally, I love Marke, and agree Isolde deffinatly should have chosen him. I think Rufus Swelle did an amazing job at bringing what otherwise would have been a bland character, and overall movie to life. On the other hand, I think he was WAY to goof for Isolde. I don't like her at all, and i think Marke deserved someone a lot better, and who would love him unconditionally right back.

Perhaps, but that does not change anything that I've done here. Isolde may have been miserable, but Lord Marke loved her more than anything. I don't hate Marke, but the whole point of the film is that Tristan and Isolde were meant for each other, they were soulmates. Marke does care for Isolde after he marries her, but he didn't really know her, he couldn't even see how unhappy she was. Isolde revealed her true self only to Tristan, and it's heartbreaking that they couldn't be together. Tristan and Isolde had true love, a love so pure, deep, and powerful that it transcends everything.

I know in the movie she said she couldn't hate his uncle.I wish it hadn't had such a sad ending but the best movies usually do.His uncle didn't even hurt her or him when he found out about their deception.He truly cared but like you said he never knew the real her.Was this movie based on a true story?

I'm a big Moonlight fan (Sophia Myles stars in that now) on CBS and I hear that Rufus is doing a show on CBS called Eleventh hour. They should have him do a guest spot on Moonlight--he could really cause some angst between Mick and Beth. And he'd actually be worthy competition for Mick (one of the few).

I actually really like this vid. I didn't think I would...I'm all for Tristan/Isolde...not really Marke/Isolde. But it really is beautifully done. You did a totally stellar job.
I love this movie, although it is heartbreaking. I could never be in Isolde's position...it would be too hard and too sad and too...well...heartbreaking.

This is a beautiful story and I'm glad for once that they didn't turn Marke into an utter harsh, bitter, bastard. I love Rufus Sewell. I have to say that if I had been Isolde, I probably would have chosen him. Fickle, I know, but I can't help it!

Personally, I love Marke, and agree Isolde deffinatly should have chosen him. I think Rufus Swelle did an amazing job at bringing what otherwise would have been a bland character, and overall movie to life. On the other hand, I think he was WAY to goof for Isolde. I don't like her at all, and i think Marke deserved someone a lot better, and who would love him unconditionally right back.

Not naive at all! The naive folks would probably be all about Tristan and Isolde. It takes a lot to actually prefer a man that would keep you safe and love you (even if you didn't love him back) instead of *the love of your life.* She would've been better off, I imagine! Thank you!

Thank you for being so kind about this. I don't find many, if any, Marke/Isolde shippers. They are very rare. I have nothing against Tristan, I don't. I hope people understand that. It's only...Marke has been through hell and Isolde brought him his heaven. In my opinon, course.

You're very welcome! I understand precisely where you're coming from. I've gotten a lot of people angry over the fact that I ship Marke/Isolde. They all pull the true love card, but I think most of it has to do with the fact that the name of the movie was, in fact, Tristan and Isolde. Heh. Marke's love for Isolde was the sort that would have lasted forever. Or that's how it seemed to me.

I think she wanted to; it was Tristan who wouldn't leave. He wouldn't abandon Marke. I feel badly for all of them. They all love each other--Tristan loves Marke as a father and Isolde as a lover, etc.

i love this movie simply cos in the whole 'love triangle' theres no real bad guy. i feel so sorry for Marke cos he's been through so much and then all this stuff happens and he's just caught in the middle. and yet he still comes through fighting. love love this video. well done.

Perhaps, but that does not change anything that I've done here. Isolde may have been miserable, but Lord Marke loved her more than anything. I felt sorry for the man (I mean, loving someone who's already someone else's wh*re? Bad). This video is in no way a Lord Marke/Isolde "OHMYGOD, we're in LOVE" video. It's about how much he loved her and how she betrayed him.

it's so unfair to say that isolde "betrayed" marke. she never wanted to be with him to begin with, and she had NO say in the matter at all. if she had chosen to be with him then I could understand it. but she was in love with tristan already. and she knew tristan still loved her, so she couldn't turn her back on that. it's so sad! I feel bad for marke though, too.
