  • This song is so powerful, the best band ever!

  • I was born when this album came out, that makes me feel a little bit more awesome :3 Thanks PJ!

  • These lyrics arn't right sorry

  • Thanks

  • Your lyrics aren't right, good sir or ma'am. It isn't "circumstance, clapping hands" It's "Avalanche, falling fast"

  • i love this album

  • Why do I feel nobody likes backspacer? I think it's a pretty fun album and it has kickass songs such as Johnny Guitar and The fixer. Although No Code is one of their most sincere, beautiful albums.

  • @barttool I like backspacer. Good shit on that album, plus I was of age to appreciate it when it was released, unlike PJ's other stuff when I was either in utero, a todler, or not even conceived yet.

  • Epic song from a epic band. Most of these new popular artists today really need to get down deep into their hearts, like Pearl Jam here and think of some songs that will stay with you eternally in mind, body and soul.

  • This is the rearview mirror version right?

  • this song reminds me on church :D

  • i hear jack irons. am i right?

  • @okokok32 you are correct sir

  • Who are we? Trampled marks on your soul seen it all not at all.

These gentlemen sing to my soul

  • This music is just beautiful and something hard to put in words.

  • based on Frost's "The Road Not Taken"

  • Best Pearl Jam Song

  • So much better than the avocado album and Backspacer. This just feels right. The sound is so cool and layered and raw at the same time. And the song and melody is beautiful. The whole album is beautiful. Now I feel the magic's gone - Brendan O'Brien is not the right man for them anymore and they really should stop thinking about the mainstream - as is the case with the last couple of albums.

  • surf punk rock meets white gospel w/ touches of world beat

  • i live in malaysia, and when this album was released back in 96, they had different art cover

  • @natefaizy the last cover on this video is for the Greatest Hits album

  • Some of the stupidest lyrics ever written. "that's the moss in the aforementioned verse". Who writes this shit?

  • @PutItAway101 Ya, i'm sure the song's that you write are much better.... douche

  • @tjackson76b How would you know the difference, if you think this ridiculous nonsensical whining is good?

  • @PutItAway101 lol, this song is awesome, you're just an idiot... let see, 222 likes, 2 dislikes.... If you don't like the lyrics maybe you should continue listening to Bieber or Gaga. "baby baby baby ooohhhh baby baby baby ooohhh" Now that's some lyrics you'd probably understand a little better.

  • @tjackson76b The song is shit, embarassing sophomoric pseudo-mystical bullshit. The biggest retarded facepalm is at the end when the guitar starts wandering up and down the major scale like that was interesting. No doubt you idiots that like Pearl Jam think that's something amazing. It's not my problem that 222 people are morons, it's theirs.

  • @PutItAway101 i guess the millions of fans are all sadly misguided,if only we could all be enlightened as you. only the most brilliant of minds uses phrases like "retarded facepalm". and you have no idea what you're talking about

  • @ghostwhiskey What does it matter if there are "millions" of you morons who think this is good? If you measure quality by the number of idiots with terrible taste who listen to it, then Bieber is far greater than Pearl Jam.

  • @PutItAway101 Ohhhhhh I get it you're just a dick. Bye bye spaceman

  • @PutItAway101 Look cocksucker, if you can write a better song then post it up. Otherwise, keep your mouth shut and resume your masturbation.

  • @SevenisNine As if you faggots would know the difference. You like pearl jam, you're beyond hope of knowing a good song if you heard it.

  • @PutItAway101 Oh, then PLEASE show your examples of "good songs" from the 90's to present. As if you know some.

  • @SevenisNine Why whould I bother trying to educate the hopelessly ignorant? You and Pearl Jam deserve each other.

  • @PutItAway101 Because you obviously have shit taste in music. You can't write a song better than this and you never will. You're useless. Go troll somewhere else.

  • @PutItAway101 holy fuck what a douche you are. I was here 2 months ago arguing with you, I'm here again to listen to this song and you're still crying. For someone who hates this song so much you seem to be here quite a bit. just wondering, who is your favorite band?? I see you don't have any music listed in your favorites except for some gay hitler/metallica video. (probably your masterbaition material)

  • @PutItAway101 You would have to be the dumbest cunt i've ever seen on youtube, honestly I think your on a computer in a basement of your mummy's house hiding behind your little screen starting shit where you have the worst case of all time. Saying Pearl Jam produce bad music wow your a fucking retard go back to sucking your mums tits cunt.

  • @TenchuZ4855 What an intelligent argument. You and Pearl Jam clearly deserve each other.

  • @PutItAway101 you clearly should fight me cunt

  • @TenchuZ4855 oooooo Internet tough guy! I'm scared.

  • @PutItAway101 where do you live cunt

  • @TenchuZ4855 oooooooooooooo interenet tough guy!

    192 Day Street

    SYDNEY 2000.

  • @PutItAway101 Sydney.... Austrailian. I should have guessed by the pure dip-shittedness of your comments.

  • @tjackson76b Yea and who do you like, you judgemental piece of shit that so conveniently is on the page of a song that he derides so tactfully?

  • @waverlymike hey moron, i like Pearl Jam thats why i'm here fucktard

  • Pearl Jam is just...I really can't think of an appropriate word to describe just how great they are.

  • Can't wait for the next tour!! Hope Philly gets another 4 shows!!!

  • Vitalogy and Yield are prolly my all time fav albums but all pearl jam is amazing in my opinion.

  • To me it's such a beautifully moving song there should be more bands out there like Pearl Jam, artists these days just don't make songs like they use to.

  • I will always remember the day i first heard this song ;)

I have been into Pearl Jam for some time now & a couple of months ago i brought Rearviewmirror, so there i was getting some money out at an atm & Who You Are came on, it was the most beautiful thing i had ever heard, it reminded me of my brother David who sadly passed away before i was born, Pearl Jam put so much effort into their songs especially the love & compassiong in Eddie Vedder singing, this song mean's alot to me.

    R.I.P David.

  • @MrDano0258 I remember the first time i heard this song as well. I used to go to work with my father when I was a kid (maybe 15-16) and I made everyone in his office listen to it, I told them it was the most beautiful thing they'd ever hear. and now some 15 years later I still agree with what I thought them

  • Pearl Jam is Genius. Super. Awesome.

  • "take me for a ride before we leave,"

  • No Code is my favorite pearl jam album

  • interesting how one line got changed . . . Circumstance, clapping hands (No Code version) to Avalanche, falling fast (Rearviewmirror version). why the change?

  • Comment removed

  • "just a little time before we leave"

  • if i could bottle this song into a single moment, i would.

  • Great awesome band!

  • NO Code for me is the best Pearl Jam album ever

  • @wilitoto you are insane.

  • Comment removed

  • @wilitoto No code is cool, but I'm all about Yield.

  • people shut up bout like justin beber and shit who fuckin cares its peral jam

  • NO PUEDO DESCRIBIR LO QUE ME HACE SENTIR, VIVA PEARL JAM POR SIEMPRE Y VIVA MEXICO CHINGA

  • Come to send, not condescend. some people really need to listen to that lyric.

  • @PopCulture20

Why don't Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber have any real meaning in their music?

  • Because they are not real. Inside and all. Ya know?

  • @baebameows

    I completely know.

  • @Sweetxallure

Because they suck at singing and they use auto-tunes to cover that up and are in it for the fame and fortune, which is why like so many pop singers in the past, they will have short moments in the spotlight and they have a fan base that consists of mainly brain dead tasteless preteen-early teenage girls ho will forget they ever existed five years from now.

  • @Sweetxallure Becasue it's pop music, the same with the pop music that came out around this time, the pop music before it, and the pop music that will come after it. It's not made for people who would even able to understand the meaning behind it if there was one.

  • @Sweetxallure

because they are not "musicians" they're used car salesmen lol

  • @Sweetxallure That should be fairly obvious. I will let you figure that one out.

  • @Sweetxallure money

  • @Sweetxallure how gives a shit. Why even bring them up? Enjoy what you enjoy, and make it about Pearl Jam, and their music, and not about what others are, or aren't doing.

  • @PopCulture20 they do actually but they're all on PJ's first three albums. After the third album, they have made less catchy songs. They traded catchy songs for growers. That explains why every PJ album from No Code onwards are hard listens. VERY hard listens! Takes quite a while and some effort before you really sink into the songs... But once you do, you won't want to get out of them! Catchy songs are easy to get into, easy to grow bored of... Its the growers that stand the test of time.

  • 1. No Code

    2. Yield

    3. Vs. / Ten

    4. Vitalogy

    5. Backspacer

those are all the PJ albums i own rated best to least awesome i'm in the middle of buying the rest, shouldn't have put it off. no code is my favorite album ever.

  • No Code is an absolute work! This album seperated the "fans" of radio hits and the true fans who worship every thing they've done like myself.

  • Pearl Jam is my religion...bow down to the greatest band EVER

  • @crod1211 hell yeah iagreee hav for years

  • Great song for your mind's eye,, lyrics are almost Dylanesque

  • shut up baggen!

  • 1. Vitolagy

    2. No Code

    3. Binuaral

    4. Ten

    5. Vs

    6. Riot Act

    7. Yield

    8. Pearl Jam

    9. Backspacer

  • @lohello567 make up the numbers and rules, unless that's the order you borrowed then from the library

  • Albums in order: #1 Vs. #2 Ten #3 Vitalogy #4 No code #5 all the rest.

  • vitalogy sould be no. 1

  • so right... thanks for putting Vs. #1

  • This is one epic album from the Jam. In my opinion, and for my liking, this would be the 3rd best album. #1 Yield, #2 Ten, # No Code.

  • Good song.

    Love the drums.

  • what is this song about? love it though, i grew up around pearl jam im only 17 but theyve always been one of my faves. if you ask me they compare to the beatles/stones/floyd/zep

  • @AlecKronicle you are who you are dah! j/k

  • @michves27 lol what

  • the bass at 0.05 reminds me of Babylon's Burning by The Ruts

  • CrazyMiles' comment made me vomit!!!

Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains only made the best music!!!!! I don't think either one of those bands made one bad song!

Saying those bands suck and have no talent is like saying CrazyMiles' mom doesn't suck guys for money ... its not true!

Can you imagine if all those bands, Nirvana, PJ, SG, AIC all came together and made a record together back in the 90's ?

  • I'm not a huge Nirvana fan. More on the PJ/SG spectrum of the grunge era, although I am liking AIC. Anyway, it is as close as we'll get, but at least we have Temple of the Dog (PJ and SG).

  • you should check out mad season, a mix of AIC and pearl jam. Its kick ass music.

  • nice, they're pretty cool too. Thanks for pointing them out.

  • You mean Mad Season and Temple of the Dog?

  • Great song, phenomenal album.

  • Oh hell yah!

  • "that's the moss in the aforementioned verse"

I must have listened to this tune a Billion times (my 2nd fave after In my tree off No Code) and I never realized this is what he was saying.

    Genius Ed, Genius.

  • I allways thought pearl jam was ok then I saw them live.... there awsome

  • brings me to back to a certain place and time....whoa..:)

  • Word up, brings back great memories. Music is a great way to relive the past.

  • i agree that while ten is very good album, its kinda one dimensial and is def not my fav. but thats just my opinion

  • one dimensional? How so?

  • Thanks for this I'm putting this on my website "The Top 50 Pearl Jam Songs"

  • Comment removed

  • cant beileve ppl argue on here ..

  • I can't believe you acknowledge them.

  • Pearl Jam is a rock band!

  • Not to say I don't listen to new altrock, Miles.

  • Fact: all those bands you just mentioned suck ass

  • Pearl Jam is a rock band. Not an indie band.

  • what ever happened to all that lovely 90's stuff whered it all go?

  • Don't agree with you on the first two. Fleet Foxes are a great band and certainly up there with 90s bands in levels of skill, but I listen to classic alternative more than new altrock.

  • ??? quit talking out of your ass. FACT: all of those bands you mentioned would gladly and openly admit they are indebted to the individuals that defined 90's music. hats like saying Neil Armstrong was soooo much more interesting and did much better things than Newton. Or Steve Jobs is sooo much more interesting and did better things than Thomas Edison. There's a word for people who have no respect for history, for their fathers, and for where they come from: stupid.

  • 1michelemichele1's Hokusai's Wave of awesome taste in magicalmusicness crests again. Thank you so much for the post and the sly changes in album covers at the appropriate moment.

    "Avalanche, falling fast..."

    Fucking lovely :)

  • love it

  • I don`t think i`ve heard this song on radio since 96 or so. Always been one of my fave PJ tracks.

  • love it, love the citar, amazing song! One of the best by Pearl Jam. Love the eastern approach.

  • Long Live PJ!!!!!

  • 1 o dere finest!!

  • If you like Pearl Jam's entire catalog this album is the reason why..... it was the step between the older stuff and the new. It blends the old with the new. I love all their stuff!

  • Amazing

  • I respectfully disagree. While "the best" is a very subjective thing I tend to think their earlier stuff, while very good, does not express their full potential.

  • @livia: fully agreed...I think their Golden Era was the Jack Irons years...Vitalogy, No Code, Yield...I thoroughly enjoy all three of those, and think they're the three best albums they've put out..Ten was obviously a very good album, but was somewhat one dimensional compared to the later ones, I think...just my opinion, of course...

  • I fully agree with Yield then No Code, then I have to go with Ten, Vitalogy is forth.

  • However I think that Ten and Versus (and then No Code) are the best.... but yeah, that is my humble opinion!

  • It makes me so happy to see someone other than myself who thinks this. don't get me wrong, matt cameron is great, but jack irons just gave pearl jam their 'sound'- almost nostalgic to me now. Yield definitely comes in a solid first for me.

  • the best pearl jam album

  • I agree, or at least it's my favorite anyway.

  • this song doesnt sound like any of their other stuff at all, but its still a damn good song. tho i still prefer their earlier material(10 to Vitalogy era)

  • migueof......"avalance, falling fast"

  • just heard this song for the first time on yahoo music while chatting. I was like what the hell who is this. I was stunned to find out it was pearl jam, didn't recognize Eddie. Now like to check out the hits album.

  • Pearl Jam is just that Fucking Great!!!!!

  • Pearljam is the best

  • Why is a part changed? In this version Eddie says something different to "circumstance, clapping hands". Which is the original version? Thanks.

  • something about this song that makes want to just listen to it over and over again. almost nastalgic somehow. the lyrics remind me of places of old. good memories, good times. a bygone era that calls you too reminisce and pull old photos. maybe its just me. Love the song. Pearl Jam, Rock On.

  • Can't Defend Fucked up Men

You are Who Who you Are

Those are the 2 greatest lines i've ever read.

  • i fucking love this album, excelent just music, great work michele

  • da shit

  • Love this song.

  • I loved Pearl Jam for years. When I first heard them sing in the 90's, I was taken back by Eddie's voice, the lyrics in the songs, and the overall music itself. Mostly Eddie Vedder himself. I often wonder about his point of view of life. It seems like, through his music, he expresses that we all go through our own personal war with life, living in this society, the people around us and our personal self. Eddie is a very deep-minded human being. I like that. :)

  • I think that's not drum machine... The sound was more bold than drum machine... I think they record the drum twice...

  • Nah Its Jack Irons bangin em drums... apparently its a a drum warm up sorta warm up sequence he's played since he learned to play ... so I hear

  • he heard the rhythm when he was in a drum store when he was a kid and decided to use it in this song. i like it a lot, this is a great song.

  • There is a mistake in posted lyrics.

fuck the man - fucked up men

  • Vedder sometimes does the Stipian mumble, it's maddening

    Thanks for your post

  • rolling drum machine

  • Nope, that's Jack Irons.
