If Mike reynolds really cared about the earth and people he would give plans out for free. He would design an earthship out of Cob. Why bother using trash when you can build a solid wall of cob from the materials at the site? Its more efficient than beer cans and concrete. Truth is, Mike Reynolds is just another Capitalist who made a product and is now selling that product. Im a capitalist and can call em when I see them. Mike shouldn't own this info. It should be public knowledge.

@ittray I'm a huge fan of the Venus Project, but until we can get that sorted out, I have no problem with people like Mike making money on their hard work and ideas. He still has to eat, travel, pay taxes, and maintain the public outreach if he wants to continue moving forward with these ideas. You can buy his books if you want the info, and even a $100 investment in books is way more than the value of the information they contain.

While I like the earthship idea and what you have done with it to drive sustainable living. While it is low carbon, it is not zero. If you put windows in that negates the carbon zero. Zero is Zero! Also was sorry to hear how much a contract build cost. You say that you are moving from your persoanl dependency on money but $300k tell me you haven't along with your team. Anyway, I am glad the rich can afford these things. I will build my own. Thanks for the learning thow!

thing is the cost of one of the current earth ships is about the same as a normal home. so for any one to get this home in the first place they need to save up allot. and people cant get mortgage on it. i would like a home the same as the global model that is cheap enough for me to build.

It's beautiful, it is mindbogglingly that this system is not being taking over by governments. They know that the technology is there, but still they give permits to companies that build on a polluting way. Mr. Reynolds, in my book you are a true hero, and I tell people about you as if you are the biggest star i have ever seen in my life, because you are one f the biggest stars that I have seen in my life.

I love the aikido analogy. It's exactly the same approach I'm trying to use with my building. I am doing some green retrofits and regular retrofits by accepted codes, but am planning to implement some off-grid ideas after all else has passed inspection. I also have been messing around with a geodesic esqe dome in my garage. If any inspector wonders what's up, I'll just say it's an art project (which in a sense it is)!!

Fantastic video by Michael Reynolds the architect who invented the Earthship (i.e. a home that will be like your own ship that will take you through life's journey). Earthships are super-insulated, zero carbon homes. They need no cooling and very little (if any) heating, even in the coldest winters. They catch rain-water, re-use gray water to grow vegetables and salads indoors, use solar energy for heat, power and electricity.

I love this idea. I just wish we could change the building codes quickly. I live on coastal Mississippi so I have no hope of building an Earthship. I cannot move so it just seems unfair.

If you want to change the world. Give humanity the ability to build these homes despite the current political situation. Come up with a low cost version of a self contained shelter. And give it freely to the world.

I fear its the only way to begin the cultural changes needed for future generations.
