@peth155: The whole concept of “apps” is iTard-speak. All smartphones had the ability to install applications freely at will by their very definition. Only Apple tried to act like it’s oh such a great ”privilege” and as if you only could “buy” them from a “shop”.

For example: Yesterday it took me less than 30 minutes to write a J2ME2 application that can synchronize my contacts, todos and calendar with my own server. I just upload it on my homepage and *everyone* can install it. Except iCrap.

assuming you have one, and that it has the standard sharp OS,then go to the main menu, go to settings > display settings > Backlight > time out off.

if you want to retain backlight off during non video modes, only have the back light permanent when playing video then play a video file, pause it, press the top left hand button which will bring up a soft menu go to Settings > back light > always on.

Not totally. I am not sure if your local telecoms supports full 3G but if it doesn't it will only work on GSM network. You will need a hypersim to unlock it and signal out issues will happen. TV feature wouldn't work as well as internet, etc. Bluetooth is only limited to headset and not file transfer. Please note that Softbank will have media lock issues and they don't accept music files in mp3 due to copyright issues.

I live in Australia and own an SH-06A, and before that I had an SH-01A. These phones are dare I say years ahead of Western Technology. After owning these phones, you could not pay me to own a western phone. Sure to buy the japanese phones is expensive, but if you can speak japanese and know what your doing, the process becomes alot easier. Currently, Sharp make the most amazing phones. Check out the SH-09A. Chriskicks123.... you sure are a misinformed individual. Pretty Sad.

what i mean is the technology will be here soon. they will re-package it in english. the japanese will buy it and use it, thus giving the company the revenue to start mass production for the english-speaking market. as with all things made there. wii, PS2 and PS3 were release in japan long before america.

the phone will be slightly different than shown. and/or other technologies will be added/merged for the US release. i am 99% sure, as this is how it usually happens

Your only hope of getting this phone in the US is via an importer. I'm sure there are stores/people in the US that will import this phone, but it won't be cheap (I'm guessing in the 700-800 USD range when it first becomes available).

just wanted to correct that the wii actually came out in america before japan. The DS did also. Not sure about sony's things but nintendo's things usually come out in the US first. However u are probably right about the stuff you said about the phones. Especially since docomo has announced they want to release phones in the US market in 2010.

all functions of the japan only phones will be unlocked by hyper sims from Taiwan, then through another multi media unlock the phone's camera and mp3 function will be unlocked, however functions like internet, t.v and other interesting functions are disabled due to the limitation of technology outside of Japan.

nah japanese phones are never released outside japan. they are only made in japan for japan. people buy these phones in japan or china and sell them to U.S or U.K at increased as exoctic phones are a niche market and its hard to make a profit selling at near cost prices. if you go straight to japan you can prob get for between 500-600 USD(which is what i'm gonna do=]). if not it'll cost up to 1000 when its new.

In japan you need address and Japanese I.D. to buy a phone so the police can track which phone belongs to who (crimes pretty bad in japan they've done away with prepay=[). Since im half Japanese and under 18 i qualify for a Japanese passport, bam theres my ID. and then i use my relatives address thus i can buy the phone. THEN i have to buy a hypersim (80bux+) to use it in Australia...now i need to wait for the phone to come out in summer...kinda a trek but worth it=]

it is true that you need to buy the plan. however in japan there are places that sell just phones, independant retailers just as they do in australia or in the US. if you go to akihabara there are several phone stores independent from docomo which will sell you the phone but not the plan. however the phone is still locked to docomo which is where the hypersim comes in;). however internet and tv wont work outside japan=[
