By yourself a tool to transfer machine to machine so you aren't using a video camera. Diamond makes one that is only about $30. Called a Video Capture Device.
Waooohh, your father is my hero, I have seen this movie a lot of time, I love this picture because B-52 (BUFF=Big Ugly Fat Fucker, that's the real meaning for some pilots) is my favorite military airplane. My father and mother was some witness of the crash at Palomares (Almería, Spain) of a B-52G with a KC-135A and 4 nuclear bombs during a Chrome Dome flying. My mon get shocked for a period of time when she looked all these pieces of metal and fire from the sky and the bombs in parachute.
BUFF= Big Ugly Flying F er is what that really means- After all, a B-52 isn't "fat".... But it is or was designed as the Ultimate F%$^er, as in dropping H Bombs!
Not a facebook user. My rec ollection stems from my own time in SAC-1977-78, where I heard this from my then 509OMS CO, Then Lt. Col, Retired at Lt. Gen.Gen. Charles Searock. He flew B-52 missions in Viet Nam.
Most Realistic SAC movie ever! I was "SACumcised" from 1980 to 1985 at Carswell and we used to watch this, Bombers B-52, and Strategic Air Command whenever they came on TV. And I agree with the comment that I'd rather be in an enemy attack than an ORI.
yeah, my dad was base commander at Davis-Monthan in like 1967. I was only 6 or 7 but I totally remember going into one of the Titan missle silos! My mom said that folks in the AF used to call a flying B52 "the 8th Wonder of the World."
my dad is in the movie. We were stationed at Beale AFB when this movie was made... All the men that were on Alert got to be in the movie... I miss those days at Beale...
I was also stationed at Beale, although in the mid 80s & did not have to go through the "no notice IG inspections'. I can only imagine what the sweat factor could have been like when the word hit that the IG was inbound....Yikes!
I've always loved this movie. Thanks for putting the scene up. It must be great to know your father flew the actual B-52 filmed in the sequence. Were you around for any of the filming? Does he speak much about it-get to meet Rock Hudson? Thanks again. Graz
Well, I was around, but I was only 2. We were stationed at Beale AFB. The Rock story I remember is that the Base held a party for the cast and crew. The Base commander's wife did the place-setting and had she and my mom on either side of Rock. However, my folks couldn't find a babysitter for me so they couldn't go! My dad is also in a ground scene where Rock is talking to some airmmen close to smaller plane - not a B52. He's the one to the left of Rock, with his back to the camera.
"A Gathering of Eagles" was a great film.

@anand1039 I don't think so. An internet buddy who is a big fan of the movie copied it onto DVD while it aired on TCM and burned me a copy.

Thanks, but I haven't figured out to upload straight from a DVD. So for this I used my (hand-held) Flip Video camera. :)
